Is that hole in the exhaust inlet on the first pic from a stud/bolt hole? If so, wow.
I guess it probably won't affect performance really since it'll be sealed, but that's just bad.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

I just took off my old housing and compared - they are night and day difference.

the one that was on my HX40 - is near flawless, even the out color is 1 solid color and all the casting is removed to look smooth.

The one I just got looks like a child was working on it.

The 2 holes on the exhaust Inlet are where they drilled holes that hold the turbo to the exhaust housing so ya it would be mostly sealed as those 2 bolts wont be removed.

the 3rd hole actually is the same bolt as the first 2 only it creates a bump right in the middle of the channel.

i'll take side by side photos and post in a sec

edit: just noticed on the "new" one looks like they took maybe an HX35 housing and drilled it out, and it also looks like maybe it was used and a fan blade hit the edges - picts to follow

Yeah i would definitely try and get a replacement, sucks you will have to wait and deal with sending that one back. Extremepsi has always been really easy to work with for me, i'm sure they will take care of it for you.

The old one looks nicer than the new one. I'd try and return it also.

The old one only has 10 track passes and dyno time on it.

But the quality difference is huge. I talked with extreme today they asked me to send pictures
and they'll discuss it with bep and assured me they'll take care of the issue.

So only time will tell..

In the mean time back to working on my old housing. Brought it to work today in the hopes I can get one of them maintenance guys to fix it. A few of them used to race cars in there day so hopefully we can sneak it into the machine shop and take care of it.

In which case ill just ask for a refund for the new one.

Well update.

Sent pictures off to extreme last nighr but didnt have any reply today

Maintenance was able to knock out the broken tap yesterday however the one size they were out of warranty 10m x 1.25 taps. So after checking every auto parts in my town and the one next to me as well as Lowe's. I finally found it at a "fastenal" store.

So far today maintenance is working on the last hole now or was till he got called to fix our pos stretch wrapper. He leaves in 45min so hopefully he'll have time to finish before he leaves.

Update - back in business. The last one took some skill to get out. Thank goodness I work for a multi million dollar company with a huge shop on site. And beer money in hand goes a long way here in the south lol.

Hopefully everything will bolt back up will attempt it tomorrow

Oh the joys of owning a dsm.

So yesterday I finish installing the new hx40. Every thing went together perfectly.

And decided to take the car to work today....when....

On my way into work, I was taking it easy on the car as I just finished working on it and at about 4 miles from work I'm cruising along doing 40mph, which probably saved my life.

A young blonde women who looked like she was texting and driving or picking something up in the passenger seat. Started slowly creeping into my lane, then she drastically swerved into my lane. And now she is completely head on coming at me in my lane. I grab the ditch and she's now still coming over she's hit the rumble strips on my shoulder which got her to look up. She get 2 tires off in my shoulder and we are less then 3 Car lengths away and she swerved back into my lane. Missing my car by inches.

And stupid bitch didnt even get back in her own lane or slow down, she stayed in my lane for at least another 1/4 mile before getting back into hers before going around a blind corner.

And now my car is smoking like crazy. Pretty sure I dented the oil pan.but didnt get a chance to take a good look.

Wow, glad to see it wasn't worse. Talk about bad luck though, hopefully the smoking issue is an easy fix.

So she didn't stop or anything, just kept going on her merry way like nothing happened? That's shitty man.

If the oil pan is dented don't drive it, You will likely starve the engine of oil as the pickup is right there. Glad you made it out without an accident!

SlowWhite 04-14-2015 11:22 AM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Got under the car today and Oil pan is toast its dented really bad as well as leaking from the gasket (havent taken if off yet to see if the bolt holes to the block are messed up) there is oil that starts at my return line and it covers pretty much the entire length of my underbellow. by the time I got home I was sitting at 15psi on my aem gauge, and when I checked the dipstick there was maybe a 1qt of oil left.
I also noticed my bumper pushed up against my FMIC and dented a bunch of fins but I dont see any holes or anything really major other then dented fins.

So Moroso Oil pan will be purchased sooner then I planned along with upgrading my 10an drain to 12an(guy gave me the part for the turbo I just dont have the line or fitting to weld to the oil pan atm. But still might be a while till I do this. Wife is on her way to doctors now to see about being induced later this week (my father birthday is this saturday, and I've asked her to see if Sat is possible) so everything will get put on hold for a while if the doctors say its ok.

Sorry to hear, that's pretty disappointing after going through that mess to begin with, then to have this happen... unbelievable. I imagine she didn't pull over to apologize? Or better yet to make sure everything is okay?

No she actaully pulled back into my lane and kept driving in my lane for probably another 1/4 mile before moving back into her lane.

I had the thought that she might have been foreign or something (I've met a few people living here that were from London). I mean normally you'd try get back in your lane after something like that not get back in the wrong lane.

Nope. damage is far less then what my rates would go up, and after deductable would almost be pointless.

But side note - wife went into labor during her Doctors visit today, we are home waiting for contractions to get closer together. Almost had the same birthday as Nash looks like we're going to miss it by a day
