Re: UBER SS
It's been a while, I've been busy. But I did just finish installing a new fuel system.
I ran -12 out of the tank to the pump, -10 from the pump to the bypass regulator, -10 back to the tank, and -8 to the carb. Magnafuel Pro Star 500 to Aeromotive A2000 bypass regulator, then returned back to the tank. Video of return dump back to the tank. Engine off, but even if it was running it wouldn't make a dent in flow at idle. This was with 5.5psi at the carb. That's a 5/8 inch stream of fuel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EL-HEmSHS8&hd=1 Shouldn't have any issues at WOT either. :p Might be more than I need at this time, but I'll never have to worry about running out of fuel again. I bought it from a good friend that just had Magnafuel go through it prior to his moving to fuel injection on his twin turbo car. Got the pump and Aeromotive A2000 13202 regulator from him for $300, couldn't pass it up. Mounted it on the mid-rear frame cross rail (not the frame cross member directly behind the bumper). The bumper and rear cross frame member are giving some protection. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...0/IMG_3217.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--...0/IMG_3213.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...0/IMG_3207.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d...0/IMG_3206.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-R...0/IMG_3289.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s...0/IMG_3288.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y...0/IMG_3287.JPG The other frame mounted filter is for the nitrous fuel pump/system. That red wire has been secured to the frame properly :p, pics were taken during the install. |
Re: UBER SS
Is it worth having some sort of controller so the pump doesn't run wide open all the time?
|
Re: UBER SS
The pump is only pumping against 7psi, rated for close to 40psi. voltage controllers are not recommended because as voltage goes down, amperage goes up and that's what destroys pump motors. Basically the carb gets what it needs, the rest gets dumped back. Another benefit is the pump runs cooler because of the flow helping cool it.

Re: UBER SS
It's been a while since I've posted here about it, things have been going good with it.
And then this happens,... http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_5...o/IMG_4262.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xx...o/IMG_4263.JPG Lost oil pressure, had to find out why. No metal on magnetic drain plug, no metal in oil filter. Engine was not knocking before taking it out. Hoping it's something simple in the oil pump/pan. Nothing looks torn up, had 4psi at idle, 20psi above idle so it never starved for oil. Found oil pressure relief piston stuck open, touched it with a small screw driver and it popped closed. http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fE...o/IMG_4269.JPG Needless to say, that Melling pump isn't going back in. |
Re: UBER SS
I've been meaning to say, I thought I saw a link to your car pop-up on Facebook posted by Murder Nova.

Re: UBER SS
Ouch! Glad you caught it in time, hopefully no issues getting it back in.

Re: UBER SS
I decided to install the correct oil pan for the engine this time around, instead of the correct oil pan for the chassis.
So,..... http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Dn...o/IMG_4379.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hp...o/IMG_4388.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-he...o/IMG_4389.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2a...o/IMG_4387.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8f...o/IMG_4385.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nl...o/IMG_4381.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cs...24-no/IMG_4382 http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Rd...o/IMG_4371.JPG http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QV...o/IMG_4384.JPG To be continued,..... |

Re: UBER SS
That thing looks bad ass from the rear with those wide tires. Nice frame work too. I've got a 66 chevy caprice that had a frame crack in the belly that made my bb sage down, I should have fixed it like you did!

Re: UBER SS
Thanks. Got any pics of the Caprice?

Re: UBER SS
Here are a couple, I finished a full restoration about 8 years ago. It looks better in and out then when it rolled off the assembly line. It's a cruiser on air bags, it has the original 396 block with a mild roller hydraulic cam with 10.5:1 compression pistons and edelbrock polished rpm heads/intake.
