The stock tune is awesome on those cars. You can pick up a good 50-70whp just from tuning them and doing no mods.

Woot for another X in town!
My advice, convert to e85, keep the tune conservative, have fun on the stock turbo w/ bolt-ons for a bit. AutoX the thing (let's organize!). Have fun with it! Do a stock-frame turbo upgrade (perhaps something custom? ;) ) and push the stock bottom-end a bit. Do some IM testing w/ your rev2/rev3 products, a ported stock TB, and the boomba 75mm guy (see the current TB discussion in the tech section) and see what does what. Maybe even a SMIM? IDK, just focus on wide powerbands and reliability. That's what make evos evos! |

Two of the four best performing manifolds (that I've seen) for the evo8/9 are SMIM, the other two are cast, one of which is a ported stocker. Granted, the SMIMs have a ton of CNC parts so they are not just pure sheet metal, so I think with MAP's fab department a SMIM would be a real trick piece that I'd love to see tested out (with various TB's). :D |

Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
Confirmed that she's still rocking stock exhaust this weekend as I finally got it up on the lift, should have the first modification (air intake) with dyno results done this week!
In the meantime, I used to rock these wheels on my Evo 8, yay or nay? And yes I know it's dirty, we got several inches of snow on Saturday and as I outlined above this is my daily ;) http://www.maperformance.com/rehost/evox-works2.jpg |
Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
Looks nice, what size are they? Narrow wheels look funny on X's IMHO
|
Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
The rims looks good, might look a bit better with a lil wider. I think 9.5" are the perfect size, that's what I wish I went with.
It's hard to tell until you drop the car, I'd assume you are going to drop it a bit at some point. Or you can rock the monster truck style like me :) |
Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
What is the stock wheel size on a X?

hmm ok, must be the offset that makes scheides' look so sunken in then.

Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
These are 18 x 9.5" Work Emotion CR Kai :) The outer edge of the wheel lines up almost perfectly with the body line, although I do need some wider tires, they are 245's right now I need 255's or larger. Anyone know if I will have issues with rubbing in the rear?
|
Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
Lomker should know, he runs 265's on his 9.5's. I don't think he rubs.
What offset are you running? Go 265's if you get new tires, unless it rubs, fill that rim out! :) |
Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX
What is the offset? I run 18x9.5 +28 and it's perfect. Anything more aggressive and you'll want to roll the rears. I'm running Star Specs in 265 but I could run a 275 in an NT05/narrower tire.
