Is this rim fixable?

About 1 mile from home on my 6 hour drive I hit a fuckin pot hole.. Go figure it's IL and they couldnt fix a street to save their lives. I just picked these up from Mark like a month ago too. I'm soo pissed. Anyway, my friend who works at Discount tire is gonna bring it in to see if it can be fixed. But what do you guys think? Does it look fixable?

The best tool to fix a rim, in my opinion, is a crescent wrench. Give it a try and see what happens. I've fixed many rims that way.

Re: Is this rim fixable?

Well my friend is gonna take it in and see what they say. I was talking to another guy who know's someone that is an aluminum specialist and said it should easily be able to be fixed. He also said if it has to be welded (worse-case) it would be like $50 and if it didn't it'd be alot less. So I'm hoping he is pretty accurate on prices.

If the aluminum isn't cracked it should be able to be fixed pretty easily. it doesn't look that bad.

just make sure they are care full fixing it. If you need a new one it has to come from the UK.

They have a special wrench that fits around the lip on rims so they can be bent back.

Kinda doubt it. Those wheels use to be everywhere and I just googled a bunch of places in the US that still have some.

your not supposed to bent aluminum wheels back. it could crack or break or you just might get lucky and it will look perf.

Where can I find these wheels!? I looked all over on ebay and google and couldn't find them. If someone could send me a link that would be great. I may just buy a new one if it's cheap enough.

What size are they? Team Dynamics "Motorsport" wheels right?

They are Team Dynamics and they're 18 x 8. And holy shit they are expensive..

Re: Is this rim fixable?

$245 for an 18x8? That's not terrible for a brand new wheel.

Re: Is this rim fixable?

Can you put me in contact with this aluminum guy? I need an opinion on welding a wheel.

If you think that's bad, price out a new 19" BBS CH with Nitto 555's. ;)

I'm cheap.

My friend can get it fixed through discount tire for $75. So I think I'm gonna do that. Then I also need 2 new tires since 2 of them have really bad camber wear. Plus I'm picking up a shell for $230 that I posted in my other thread so money is extremely tight. I'm really hoping to fix this shell up nice and sell it to make some money off it. Did I mention I have been jobless for like 6-7 months?! I feel bad borrowing so much money from my parents..

Re: Is this rim fixable?

Well whoever Discount tire does their rims through said they couldn't fix it.. The bend isn't even that bad so I'm either gonna try to find another place and see what they say or get out the torch and mallet. I'm coming back home to MN this weekend so I will probably just do it then.

3lb hammer and a piece of 1/4" sheet rubber. That looks very fixable.

4g63tcrazy 03-05-2009 09:30 PM

Re: Is this rim fixable?

I actually have some 1/4 sheet rubber sitting at home! I will try that out. What about heat though? Should I heat it up too? I have a little propane torch I was gonna use.

xveganxcowboyx - If you're asking me, It's my friend from discount tire. So you can just go to any Discount tire and have them fix it for you.
