Thoughts/options on turbo

I'm looking at a turbo right now and just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it or have any better suggestions.
Plan is to make around 700 (I'm not a numbers guy)
The one I'm pretty set on getting would be the Borg Warner s366 twin scroll t4 in the .91 ar.

What do you think? Anyone ever run one?

What gas, what boost? That turbo will get you there, but so would a smaller 62mm version. Smaller would be slightly more responsive, but would have to run higher boost. 66 will be more laggy, but make it at easier boost levels.

I personally am on a 61mm version in that same housing arrangement at the moment.

Would like to stay under 40ish psi and will be on e85 which is more like e75
Will be 10.5:1 on a 2.0

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

If I were you, Id run the S300SX 88-75 (62m). It's a 75lb/min turbo so it's capable of getting you to 700hp in <40psi. Depending on your supporting mods, I bet 35psi would get you there. Plus then you have the responsiveness of a smaller turbo for fun street driving. Plus the S300SX turbos are off the shelf BW units and can be found all over for incredibly low prices.

If you want to spend a little more and stick with BW, you can consider the newer S300SXE 83-76 (62mm). It's got slightly updated tech on the compressor wheel, and thus is rated at the same 75lb/min with a slightly smaller (exducer) comp wheel. But you'll pay a couple hundred more for that.

Bang for the buck though I'd say is still the S300SX 88-75. Plus the thing will take a pounding like all BW stuff seems to do.

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

You could buy this FP3582hta that I have sitting here, it has propelled multiple people to 140+mph trap speeds and has dyno'd over 700 whp, that you are looking for.

The best part, its in a mitsu flange and a fucking work of art, I wish I would of gotten an FP turbo years ago. The turbo is so physically small and light, it's insane.

I will agree with bman a 62mm turbo will be more fun/responsive and still get you to your goal.

I would like to move to a t3 flange or possibly t4. The s300sx 88-75 I thought would be on the small side for the power I want. I would like to stay under 40psi. More researching for me haha

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

88-75 is a 75lb/min turbo, for 700 hp max goals it's not too small, not too big, just right.

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

I need to add the expense or make your engine bay more cramped for 700whp when it can be had so simply by bolting a turbo on.
Plus if you could even max the bolt on housi ng you can just get a $150 housing and swap to T3 or T4 and sell that FP housing for a lot more money.

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

bw turbos are awesome, cheap and work horses. another option but much more spendy is PTE, i have the gen2 6266 its rated to 800hp. i made 668 on my sti last summer on only 34psi. was turning it up a valve retainer broke =(. but its a fun turbo hit hard and pulls like a fright train.

I'd go with the pte gen 2 6266 also.

One that I'm thinking of

Also a little confused on the marmon vs v-band style options.. What is ideal?

On side note, I'm not sure if I'm understanding how to read flow charts correctly or not, but for 700awhp wouldn't you need to calculate for 875hp or 87.5lb/min?just confused because then this turbo would be small??

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

basic ricer math is that 70lb of airflow would equate to 700hp. obviously far from exact, but just a ballpark idea.

for exhaust flange, id pay the extra for the v-band option over the marmon.

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

Hah yea I've heard that. Just wanted to make sure.
Also .91 housing?

Re: Thoughts/options on turbo

for sure. but like aaron said, if theres bolt on turbos that can get you there that might be way simpler, and simple can be nice
