4G63T Head Oil Port Modification
This is a simple and effective mod done to the oil port from block to head. I have found out a restriction can occur when excessive milling of the head has been done. Resulting in low/poor oil flow through the cylinder head that can cause lifter tic, cam tower gaulding, and in some cases on turbo engines that feed the turbo oil from a port on the head, to cause the turbo to fail. Appox mod time with head of engine is 2 mins. Stock oil port…. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCF3922.jpg Take a die grinder with an aluminum burr and grind and chamfer the oil port, while staying inside the gasket-sealing ring. (I find a ¾ base tree burr works best) So the end result looks like this. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...DSCF3926-1.jpg I prefer this to be done before the head is resurfaced. Is that the only port that oil enters the head from?
Seems like a great idea, anyone else ever tried this? Wait, isn't that where the headstud goes through? Confused me now. |

no one that I have talked to has... I have it up on Tuners, and CODSM along with a few other fourms.. It seems to be a "new deal"
I have not seen it on a Busher head, nor a few other high dollar DSM heads |

hes that is where the oil flows from block to head, and yeas a head stud dose go thu there...

This is the first I've heard of oil pressure to the head being a problem. With ten parts cars popping up every day, I can't see why anyone would mill their head more than once where this would be a problem. In fact, the high rpm drag guys are getting too much oil pressure to the HLA's making them pump up and cause problems, hence modified restrictors being sold like the one Kiggly makes. That's probably why you haven't seen this mod before. I always chamfer both oil and water ports slightly after milling, but only for cleanup purposes. Maybe this is a good thing, I'm not sure.

FP claims a lot of stockframe Evo turbo failures (although its only FP turbos that are failing which may be due to them not using OEM Mitsu center sections) are due to not enough oil pressure from the head, I can see this helping slightly.

this is not so much about pressuer as it is flow, preusser is the amount of force needed to pass thu a clearance, flow deals with the amount
If the head has been milled, at this trough os now smaller, which should increase pressuer, but reduce flow when this happens, lifter tick happens, and now also the turbo may be not getting enough oil ( for the guys that are set up 1g style from the side of the head.) so when this mod is done it will restore the oil flow, and reduce oil pressure by a few psi to help simplfy... at say 50psi, you can flow (GPH or LPH) more thu a garden hose , than you can a drinking straw at the same pressuer. |

What about negative pressure? I'm having a hard time getting enough Captain to flow through my straw right about now.

Ok i ahead of time apologize for bringing back the dead but I have a Q about this mod:
When doing the port on this how deap do you go, or do you not really go any deaper but just widen the port like said and not ad any depth? I would like to do this befor my head goes out to gosh for resurfacing. |

I just made mine a nice smooth transition instead of a hard 90-degree curve. You don't need to go that deep.
Speaking of that, I didn't notice any difference doing this, I still have a slight lifter tick and my oil pressure was still really high until I ported the beejeebus out of the oil relief valve. I just did this because it seems like a good idea and I port everything for smooth flow. Me and my cabinet of flapper wheels and bits are close buddies. |

Looks like you could probably go a little wider if you wanted. Towards the right in the pic. Then smooth it out some.
