Help me choose a turbo setup!

Let me summarize:
I have a 14B powered 1G that is ready for a turbo upgrade.

I prefer bolt on...

I want something that will be capable of 400 awhp (plus or minus some realistically) that will spool before 4500 RPM

Car has a 2.0L with stock rods/pistons/cams currently.

Cams may come if I have extra cash.

Turbos I am curious about:
Holset HX35 with the BEP .55 A/R housing

FP3065

Some sort of PTE, maybe even a 50-trim?or bolt on GT35R?

20G is kinda worthless these days as only slightly out perform a E316G

Also, would I see faster spool with a GT30R T3 .63 than an FP 3065 ehxaust housing?

3052 FTW... Capable of high 10s low 11s and is very fun on the street.

I'm really happy with my FP Red, completely bolt-on which saves quite a bit of cash so you don't have to get vband exhaust stuff. Also cheaper than the FP30x turbos. Or a Green would be good. GT35R would be pretty laggy on a 2.0, not very fun for the street.

^hahaha.

Your goal of 400whp could be done with a HX35, 3052, or there about sized turbo, any bigger is up to you. But doing it with a smaller turbo is usually a bit more fun in terms of response. I did B16G, SCM61, now E316G. I have found that I want more top end than the 16G ( i can't hold boost maybe that would fix my problem) but not as much lag as the 61. Sometimes I miss the 61, but the response of the 16g rocks and is useful everyday.
I plan on upgrading to a HX35 this winter in bolt-on form because the spool is there and so is the top end.
Although for a price I would def. part with my FP mani. and go T3.
Sometimes I wonder if we just want more and I am scared that it won't end.

I was super impressed when i got a ride in slowboy's car with the FP red, he made awesome power and felt good all around.

A simple upgrade to a Evo3 16g is what I would do in all honesty. If you do want to go 'big-ish' I'd go with a nice solid FP setup and their HTA 3076. Specifically note the 'HTA' in 'HTA3076' because the regular 3076 is a little bit of a dog. The HTA76 compressor wheel will produce similar results to the reviews of FP's Evo RED I've posted here. You'll end up spending a little more, but I think you'll have a freaking sweet bolt-on setup that should make loads of power and be very very responsive for daily driving, and be really really reliable to boot.

On E85 it should kick some serious ass.

Side note: FP's 3052 and 3065 are old-ish designs. The HTA3076, HTA3582 and HTA3586 are the new way to go. :)

After saying all that, I would be hard pressed to not at least look at a 20g...looks like FP happens to have a nice bolt-on internal gate (economic but fine if you're going E85) 20G-6SL2 for $1150...that's a pretty damn good deal.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Hrm, I just looked and it seems as though FP doesn't list the HTA3076 with a bolt-on turbine housing as they do the 3052 or 3065...I would ask them if they'd sell it like that so you could bolt it on to a nice ported 2G manifold, use their turbine and o2 housings, and kick some arse.

A GT3076 is pretty much a FP3052.

I'd be interested to see a test done to compare the HTA 3076 vs the FP3052. I'm still not convinced that HTA is worth the extra money on a turbo this sized. I could see MAYBE on a larger turbo where it could really help.

20G; great turbo.

I am going to say look into the borg warner turbos a little bit. Your goals are pretty much inline with mine and I am looking at the S258 in a bolt on housing with an external gate. Flows 55lbs, quicker spool than the Garretts and more pump gas friendly, although you are looking at corn fuel anyway.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Alright, I have digested the input.

I'm sure this turbo may seem pump gas sometime, but my goal would be less for that.

I had a 20G car once before, it wasn't laggy at all. I just don't think a 20G would be able to get to my 400awhp goal easily. I like the simplicity and design of the FP mitsu housing a lot.

I am willing to spend a few thousand dollars.

I still don't know to do mitsu bolt on or not. I plan on a new manifold and o2 anyway so garrett/etc is an option.

Are you kidding?

We saw a 16G GSX put down 450 AWHP at the dyno day.

Not worth the money. A brand new one you can get for about $150 morethen a rebuild.

Anyways I would do a TD06H 20g. I Loved mine.

I'm really looking for just a good deal on a turbo. I have a good deal lined up for a 20G (don't know the specific type yet) and a Tial 38mm wastegate (Blageo23's current/old setup (he has a FP3575))

S256 would be another option to search about, sorry I don't know more about.
