LOL what?? I said he was lucky because he got a clean Evo from a shop owner... Not because he went and bought it first rofl...

I like that heat shield / air director... Is that a MAP piece?

I finally got around to having my Work wheels and Swift Sport lowering springs installed this past week and I'm very happy with the outcome :) The Gunmetal on Graphite Gray has grown on me and I love the new stance from the Swift springs. Ride quality is great (with the exception of a select few crappy MN roads) and I get a much better feel for the road over the stock springs.

We will be addressing the exhaust system next, updates and dyno comparisons will be posted in the near future!

Re: MAP's 2008 Evolution X GSR Build Thread aka Project GGX

It's been a while here and there have been significant changes so bear with me as this will be a bit of a bulk update lol. This update was supposed to be a simple catback replacement, but a lean condition and time constraints changed all of that. To make a long story short we ended up replacing the entire turboback exhaust, upgrading the majority of the fuel system, and switching to E85 as outlined below:

MAP O2 Eliminator Downpipe / Recirculated
MAP 304SS Test Pipe (Link coming soon)
MAP 3" 304SS Catback Exhaust with Varex Muffler (Link coming soon)
FIC 1100cc Fuel Injectors
Deatschwerks 300lph Fuel Pump with MAP Install Kit
Grimmspeed Manual Boost Controller

I'm pretty happy with an extra 73whp from these modifications, what kind of power levels have other people attained with similar mods? Future plans include an upgraded actuator, AEM Xwifi wideband, and most likely a clutch before we get too crazy lol.

Varex Mufflers

I have to dedicate an entire paragraph to these things. It is quite possibly the single best investment I have made when it comes to automotive upgrades. For those that aren't familiar with these it is essentially a muffler with an electric motor controlled by a wireless key fob. The motor opens and closes a butterfly valve leaving you with a full 3" passage when fully open. When the butterfly valve is closed the exhaust gases travel through a smaller opening in the muffler that bypasses the valve entirely and subjects the gases to additional baffling. Essentially you can switch between a nearly stock sounding exhaust note and a full 3" exhaust with the press of a button :) We will have a production version of my catback and an Evo 8 & 9 version in the near future. You can find more information from the manufacturer here.

i have a simular exhaust set up except mine is a 2.5 inch downpipe with a e-cutout then going into stock exhaust system so i can have loud when its just me and quite when i need it i love it as well, i looked into those muffler but they were spendy IIRC

Varex Mufflers FTW (I have one sitting around for when I build the exhaust for my 88)

I see they have one with a 3" inlet and outlet. I could replace my test pipe with it, and it would be a smoother cutout-style system.

It's pretty big sir, better check the dimensions. Rear of the car would be no problem though.

I'll have to look into that.

Utterly maxed we've seen a X hit 400tq on stock turbo on your dyno but less than 400whp. I assume you do not have a tubular or cams. It might be a good exercise for you to stay on stock turbo until you really max things out. There are different ways to do that. Kracka is focusing on FMIC/piping/TB instead of cams/exhaust mani right now.

I wish I'd run my car when I was 360tq/340hp at DB. I suspect it would be in that 400/390 ballpark.

Yup, I've been sticking to mods that basically have no drawback. After my IX I decided to shy away from cams and a lightweight flywheel on my X. So far my fairly basic mods have been good for 360whp/380wtq (93 octane pump gas) on Cobb's Mustang dyno.

-AFE/Perrin intake
-MAP o2 elim dp/ETS testpipe/Cobb catback
-ported/coated stock exhaust manifold
-ported stock IM/TB
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-Grimspeed 3-port BCS
-MAP FMIC w/Nisei UICP (stock LICP)

The only other things I'm considering at this point are a set of larger fuel injectors and a mild upgrade stockframe turbo (something the size of a FP Green or BBX-Lite).

Back on topic: Nice progress, Chris! I'm looking forward to seeing more product details/pictures of your testpipe and catback.

Looking good Chris.

I hit I think 393whp/400wtq on your dyno on my stock turbo E85 setup. Still stock o2/downpipe and FMIC.

I think 400whp/400wtq is totally doable but its running 30psi and lots o timing.

For 24psi great numbers...stock turbo E85 still my favorite setup!

What did your guys' boost graphs look like at those power levels? This thing tapers hard on the top end...

I don't have a boost plot from when i made the 393/400 or whatever on your dyno from the dyno day.

But this is the same tune from DB's dyno...this is with cosworth cams too. It had a perrin 3 port and the wga cranked down a few more turns too. This is about all you will get it to hold up top.

Finally broke the 400whp barrier :) What's the stock turbo record? This was with the same mods and a simple fuel pump rewire which rectified the lean condition, EF2 testing coming soon!

Its always good to be on power for 3000rpm, or more.
