just what i needed..

This might sound like a retarded question, since I am a noob to DSMs. And I've searched various forums and cannot come with a straight decision. Anyways, I have never plan on doing it and I was thinking.. I want to rebuilt the 6 bolt in my Gvr4. But I am also wanting to upgrade to 16g or an Evo turbo after the rebuilt. My questions are:

1) should i stay with stock internals and just upgrade the fuel system/ engine management or go aftermarket?

2) If aftermarket, what should i go with (JE, Arias, Eagle, NPR pistons)?

3) anything else i should look into for doing a rebuild.

- Keep in mind cost and quality because like everyone else I am in a tight budget.
Also I am more than likely going to take this into a shop to have it professionally worked on.
Let me know. thanks.

keep it stock. No need to build it with a turbo that size unless you plan on making big power some day down the line. Put the money saved somewhere else.

Yep, keep it stock. If you want a little extra bump for cheap, throw 2g pistons on the stock rods. And put in a new MITSU front cover and oil pump gears, don't go aftermarket and don't just replace the gears.

Another vote for stock, they seem to hold up real well.

Then you can put your money into the right mods and a tune.

thanks guys. i'm not looking for big power, maybe wanting 250-300hp tops and some mild mods but no more than 300 since this will be my dd. So stock it is... should i go with the 1g rod 2g piston combo? how well will that hold up?

It holds up well. Alot of us on here run alot of boost and hp on the stock bottom ends and haven't had issues with the engine. 400Whp properly tuned seems to be very reliable still. The reason people put the 2g pistons in is because they are 8.5:1 compression, vs the stock 7.8:1. If it doesn't cost you much to do that then go for it, but I wouldn't spend alot of extra money to swap them, cause the difference is mostly in the pre boost power, cause higher comp=lower boost before detonation.

I and a few other people on this local board are making 500+ AWHP (Dynojet) on stock shortblocks.

Keep it stock! :)
