Sell FP4R, buy HKS 280 exhaust cam, call it a day.

My cams suck so I bought this too:

Its the trunk bar that comes standard in the Evo RS. It runs from one side of the trunk to the other to help stiffen up the chassis.

ive noticed before from other people with 9's that they just dont like aftermarket cams all that much. good luck with whatever path you take with those cams!

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I may try messing with an adjustable cam gear on my FP4R exhaust cam but I could probably do the same on the stock cam. Stock cams are damn decent on the IXs.

Jim, how much power did you pick up when you put cams in?

I'm wondering Chris and I are just at the limit of our stock turbo's on pump gas.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

More power is there, there must be something else holding you guys back. FMIC, piping, not sure. 330whp should be obtainable. Other things to remember, perhaps you guys had some bad gas? Did you happen to fill up at the same station (by hughes' place?)...something was goofy friday, just not sure what.

Your cold-side FMIC temps were jumping up a solid 20' who knows what your actual intake temps were. I guess we should have dumped methanol all all over your FMIC during a pull and see if it helped...

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

Also, I am fuking floored that teh gheyrod did not make more power holding more boost up top. There are tons of examples of gm bcs improving top end. Then again, your top end did hold a lot stronger than zac's.

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

We had to pull out more timing on my car. 1 degree for 4000 to 5200 and 2 degrees for 5201 on up. At this point, I'm convinced the stock IX turbo is at its max and is just blowing hot air. That leaves a FMIC, meth, or new turbo. I'm about ready to lay down some money to grab AMS' new FMIC, and am seriously considering CBRD's BBK turbo...even though I said I'd never do a new turbo.

I figured 330 was an easy guarantee, I was thinking 340 was possible, but more of a pipe dream.

In the near future, I'm putting in a DC3 catch can, following suit and doing a bit of a wire tuck, hood dampers and as soon as possible after that, a FMIC....

A larger FMIC will also be my next big power mod. I'm quite interested in the new AMS design, the Perrin, or another new FMIC in the works that I've caught wind of.

At least your 9 looks like sex on wheels Hughes. I'm always a fan of white cars.

NEW PARTS!!!

Nisei Evo IX piping kits! Aluminum and light as hell. The quality of these things is definitely top-notch. I went for the gloss black and Chukee_R went for the red because he is a ricer. I also have a FMIC on the way, I'll post pics of that on Monday when it arrives (hopefully).

Core dimensions: 25 x 11.5 x 3.5"
Weight: ~22 lbs.

I chose the Perrin due to its large size, cast end-tanks, low weight compared to other aftermarkets, and bolt-on fitment requiring no hacking/trimming to the bumper, crash bar, or undertray.
