Re: Project Lex
Yup, I definitely took a chance. I didn't know anyone locally who'd tried so figured I'd be the guinea pig. Hopefully this next one doesn't fail, but we will see and I'll make sure to post up how it works out so others can make some educated choices based on my experience. Could have just been a fluke as well, so we'll see how this next one works.

Re: Project Lex
Word, I'm crossing my fingers that it works.

Get to pick up the new stereo tomorrow at DHL. I gotta drive to friggen Bloomington to get it though, booo.
And the brake lines are done, front and rear :) The rear was easy, I just had to make a single short line from the master cylinder to the bottom of the firewall as that is where the stock line going to the rears is. Pretty simple, actually just reused some of the old stock line that I had ripped out. Appears to be leak free :D Now that I've done it once, I feel like I could do a better job, so if I have some free time left over at the end of winter, I may actually redo it with stiffer line, and do a cleaner job. But for now it looks OK, and appears it's working so I can at least move on and focus on other things! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292555656 |
Re: Project Lex
Nice. What's next?
|
Re: Project Lex
Next is to bleed them, then maybe take it out for 1 day if the roads are fairly clear to make sure all is still well. Then reinstall stereo. Then Megasquirt.
|
Re: Project Lex
^Nice, i forgot it still runs
|
Re: Project Lex
Brownman, wanna stop by and help me bleed my brakes?
|
Re: Project Lex
brake lines looked like it was a fun job ;) can't wait to see this in person brandon. :D

Big thanks to brownman for coming over and manning the brake pedal. Brakes are bled. Took it for a quick spin around the block and they seem to work great! Damn near had a flat tire however which was random but oh well.
Also got some new shit today as well. Stereo (round 2) http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292646330 Stopped at MAP and picekd up the Pro Sport Boost Gauge and Depo Wideband kit. These things are a perfect match, even the boxes were pretty much the same! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292646330 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1292646330 |
Re: Project Lex
LOL @ Jacquees
Those new gauges are awesome, I might have to get that WB. |
Re: Project Lex
HAHA.. "gettin money, fuck you mean"

Re: Project Lex
Replacement Chiyyyna stereo is installed. Radio, DVD, Bluetooth, and GPS are all functioning perfectly!!
Hopefully the functionality lasts this time :) For my own notes the GPS is Port 2 Baud 9600. |
Re: Project Lex
I hope you back up your notes because some mods have been known to delete threads on this forum :)

Re: Project Lex
Made a little video of the stereo in action if anyone is interested in them.

Stopped up at DB Performance and picked up my new FIC injectors from Shane.
Thanks again for the help and great price :) http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293054544 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293054523 |
Re: Project Lex
They look big, what size are they?
|
Re: Project Lex
They are FIC 900cc high-z injectors. They "claim" they flow the same as other brand 1000's (I'm assuming they are referring to the ID1000's).
|
Re: Project Lex
So have you figured out what power they will max out at on e85 on a 2jz?
|
Re: Project Lex
^Good question. I'm assuming you figured something for about 700whp?
|
Re: Project Lex
1000cc should be good for 1000hp Then take like 30% away for E85. so with 900's I'd say good to 650-700hp. And if I start to run out of injectors, I may just do something to the fuel pump setup to allow me to run a higher FP which should allow the injectors to flow more than 900.
|
Re: Project Lex
Ok cool where did you find out that info that 1000's = 1000hp for the 2jz on pump? Just wondering.
|
Re: Project Lex
For a 3.0L 6cyl motor, that's just the general rule of thumb. 500cc = 500hp, 1000cc = 1000hp, etc.
|
Re: Project Lex
High or low Z?
|
Re: Project Lex
High-ZZZZZ
|
Re: Project Lex
Oh nice, they over clock pretty well with more pressure.
|
Re: Project Lex

Yeah that what's I'm hoping. Once I push them out of their range, I can just alter my pump setup and run a higher pressure and get more out of them.
Went and drove the car about a mile today just to make sure all is still well after the ABS delete. Car drives great so far, and GPS still works :) Parked it and decided to start making progress on the next task, which is Megasquirt. The ECU is located on the floorboard/firewall under the passenger side carpet. My helper and I (my 20+ y/o cat Freckles) got it removed. Going to go grab some solder and heat shrink, and will then start tapping into some of these wires. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293488165 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293488165 |

Phase 1 of the MS3 install is done. All I did was install all the wires that were "tapped" into the existing wires (meaning I didn't do any of the wires that required me to cut them). This was simply so the car would still start and be running completely on the stock ECU, but the MS3 should turn on, and I should be able to play in the software. Here's some pics:
Work area setup :) http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293694259 Wires tinned http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293694259 Soldered, heatshrinked/elec taped http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293694259 Quality Inspection performed by Freckles http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293694259 Dangling for the time being. This is where it'll be mounted however. Not completely hidden, but out of the way for the most part, and easily accessible if need be which was my goal. You can see the strips of masking tape with little dots on them. That is where it will be once it's installed permanently: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1293694428 And last but not least, a little startup vid. Like I mentioned before. I'm trying to go 1 by 1 with the car here. So since everything I hooked up so far was non-intrusive so to speak, all I'm doing here is making sure that I didn't mess anything up while I was down there, and that the car starts up with no problems and there's no magic smoke coming out from anywhere :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAh9RnbQE6k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAh9RnbQE6k&hd=1 |

Re: Project Lex
Open the garage door your going to die. Great work! Now you need a blower.
|
Re: Project Lex
Don't put it there. Nice progress.
|
Re: Project Lex
The garage was open about 2 feet :) Don't wanna let out all the heat, my poor little heater is already getting worked pretty hard!
And sorry Aaron, that's where it's going :) I spent a couple hours trying to figure out where else to put it, while keeping it still accessible, and that is the best I could come up with. |

This thing run 10's yet?

You still owe me a 10 second car Spilner. |
Re: Project Lex
Been working with Jordan (2JZ Megasquirt Guru) recently. With phase 1 of the install done, we got my laptop communicating to the MS via TunerStudio. Got some baseline settings put in for logging. So far everything is working, except having a hard time keeping sync with the cam signal below 1600rpm. Once I get that worked out, I will be wiring in the fuel and ignition control (as right now it's hooked up as purely a logging instrument). Once I get that done and a baseline tune running, will be setting up an appointment at DBPerformance for a complete baseline tune on the stock setup.
Huge thanks again to Jordan @ Powersquirt for guiding me through this. http://powersquirt.com/ |
Re: Project Lex
Stop working on this thing. I'm WAAAYYYY behind.
|
Re: Project Lex
Woohoo, got the sync issue worked out. There were a couple jumpers & pots that needed to be changed / adjusted on the MS3 and MS3x boards. Everything is logging perfectly now :)
Hopefully this weekend I'll wire in the injector & ignition wires, and MS will then be in full control of fuel and ignition, and be just about ready for Shane :D FFIM DIY: http://my.is/forums/f221/diy-kinda-i...alysis-363346/ |
