Andre's 2g GSX build
Thought I would make my own build thread to lay out my progress and where I am hoping to take the car . Mainly just a toy, don't drive my cars a ton due to my work schedule being very demanding during the summers but like to try make it to a couple events a year.
Car is a 1995 LSD GSX 5 speed, just shy of 100000 miles. I started with a really nice rust free car. Actually bought it to steal the awd drive parts for my gst that I had at the time. After starting the rust restoration on the gst I decided the cancer had gone to far and my brothers car from high school 14 years ago was finally dead. Ended up going with the GSX but red was not what I had in mind so I will just do a short time laps of pics to show where it sits 2720 lbs Engine 2.0l 6 bolt Kiggley brace, wiseco pistons, eagle rods, mls head gasket, fluid damper 2g head mild port work, dual springs, stainless ferrea valves, kelford280s, adj gears John Whalen ff mani Fp 3786 hta turbo @38lbs right now. Things I still have not installed are the dss race axles and dynatec ignition. I am gonna be doing all my driveline modifications this winter with the first being a subframe that Paul Volks making me http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-21.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-22.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-23.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-24.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-25.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-28.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-30.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-29.jpg |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Damn, i forgot you were running the 3794.
A lot of nice parts on there. 2700lb range is light!! I'm jealous. What are the goals for 2015? Unless you are going to make some more passes this year? |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Damn nice car. I want to see it in action some time
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Manifold looks good man, glad it went to a good home.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Awesome build !
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Would like to run a 9 eventually. Just not ready for it to be a full drag car. Not really sure that is my goal with it but u never know.

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Thanks for all the nice comments. The mani is unique for sure and was relieved he was able to fix it for me in the end. My goals for this car this winter are all drivetrain related. Will not be racing again this season. Don't even wanna bring it out again tell I feel like I am not gonna rip my drivetrain apart again.
Goals are Dss driveshaft Not sure on transmission but most likely a TRE variant with 4 spyder Volks subframe and am getting road race version with sway bar provisons transfer case 300m output Kinda like the idea of a evo rear end but I am sure I will be sick of spending money on this project. Need to try a new throttle body. Think mine was giving me some problems. In the spring the car will need more tuning and more boost but don't plan on doing much more then that for now. Best I was able to do was a 11.08@96 It was my first run of the day at pg2 and wish I would have ran it out cause all I did was have my tranny get worse after each run until I broke a fork |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Car looks beastly dude! Nice job!
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Very very nice project! Guys like you make me want to buy a 2g and do the same thing!!
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
No guys like dre make you want to sell your 2g cause his is too bad ass.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
That makes zero sense.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
When you realize it takes 30k to do what he has done it does.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
You dont need 30k to do what he has done, I'm not taking anything away from what he's doing by any means but it wouldnt take 30k. Either way man, good luck with sale of car! Badass for sure
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Ok don't want to clutter up his build thread. This car is IMO the best 2g in mn.

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Been awhile since I have updated this. Just swamped with work this fall and not a lot of free time. Picked up a tre stage 4 trans. Took it all apart and thought I would post up a pic of johns detail work and some evo 3 - 4 and double synchros. I was very excited the condition the internals were in considering it is used. 4 spyder diff housing had a broken tooth unfortunetly but am sending it to twicks and a new hosing and he is gonna hook me up along with checking over the intermediate and input gear sets.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-32.jpg Some dss LSD axles and now gonna be hunting down a driveshaft next. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-31.jpg Mainly happy to get some drivetrain mods but budget has been limited cause I picked up a new toy in the fall and have been working hard on it. Had a bad paint job that was flaking and 6 layers of paint and primerl later I am just about ready to prime the car. Going to get a feed body kit and just picked up some nice evo-r hid headlights. Gonna switch colors just not sure what yet for sure. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/image-34.jpg |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
That car is just itching for a motor swap.
Let me know when you want to sell that basic motor..... Eagle rods are gross or haven't you heard? |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Ahh, yes. You're snagging a Volk subframe. I saw Cory's and instantly fell in love on tuners. Let me know if you have any issues with it.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
What did you use to undercoat ur car ?
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Aaron what do u think I should swap in there out of curiousity. Tuff because I really love how the street port 13b sounds. 2jz would be cool, ironically there is a kid in town up here with a FD and rb26 and it sounds pretty unique when I have heard him drive by me a few times.
I used POR 15, Word of caution do not fill bolt holes unless u like running the tap:). I have not had Paul start the subframe yet for me but my plan is deffinetly to have one made for the car. Probably after driveshaft and transfer case upgrade. |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Trade your eagle motor for my internals and cash.
FD, either a LS or 2JZ. I'd do 2JZ I think. |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Nice liking the RX7, looks to be in pretty nice shape
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Proven force should be able to build a driveshaft for you depending what your needs are. I know we don't have fixtures for dsm flange and slip yoke but DSS driveshaft are 1310 series. Pretty much need to convert to the 1310 slip yoke, end yokes, tube, joints, and the adapter that DSS sells to connect to the rear shaft.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
So would it save me money vs just going with a complete dss setup or what would be the benefit be of going with proven force? How about the carbon fiber ones that dss sells? Anyone know if they are worth it or what the benefit is there?
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
DSS driveshafts are overrated. I've seen a DSS wrx shaft come in and it had a ton of runout. Either they built it like crap or the owner really fucked it up. The welds weren't even nice looking. 799.99 is a lot for an aluminum 3" 1310 series. Keep in mind that it only eliminates the front hanger. So instead of a 3 piece shaft, it'll be a 2 piece reusing your last section with the hanger. With the 300m output shaft, i believe it takes a c4 slip yoke from a ford which is a 1310 series joint. It takes a much bigger joint than the dsm joint. We are also starting to sell CF driveshaft. But it is not built in house. They are glued to the aluminum end yokes. Very precise driveshaft. But once it goes bad, it's garbage.

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Installed my new built trans here a month ago and finally got some fuel. Went to brained with my wife and kids for a Wednesday night and made a couple passes. Tune needs work and I didn't have time to mess with it well I was there. I had some pretty pathetic launches, assuming because upgraded center and front diffs that I just wasn't breaking loose like before. First two passes I only ran out the third and on my third I tried fourth out. Tech guy was pretty bummed so I just called it a night and was glad to load a working car!

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Nice MPH. When you get it to 60ft it's going to be a beast.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
144MPH is moving along! The tech guy was bummed? Did he end your night due to the 11.2 pass?
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Thanks and yes the car is unreal in 3-4. Hope I can get some work done in 1-2 and it should be real fun. It needs a cage and yes tech was upset about mph more then the time. It was my warning and I just went for a little quick fun. Still want to get to play at pg and stuff this summer. Now that I have been able to get my coolant temps fixed with that half radiator I have actually been driving it around a little bit here and there and it makes me even more hesitant to put a cage in it.

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Bring it down for some street action!!

Nice runs too. Always good to go home with a working car |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Well just about got my car all back together. Ended up having a few
issues last fall including my transmission popping out of reverse, my twin disc needded a rebuild and needed to change out a coolant line cause the way I welded the -16 bung on. So rebuilt the ptt clutch, replaced the wave spring, installed a CNC handbrake, still working on the brake lines, a Magnus launch controller, redid -16 an shortened a coolant loop that was driving me crazy, installed the dss axles, now I really Would like to deal with the wiring. Would really like the have lms efi make me a harness. He made one for my adaptronic setup for my rx7 and the quality is amazing and makes it look so clean. Either way new barrel of e98 on its way and should get to go take it out next week. Really plan on getting it on the dyno at db this spring before I get sidetracked with other projects. Hoping to also switch out the wheels for a rpf1 setup |
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Cool. I was afraid this car was tucked in the back of a shed or parted like alot of other badass DSMs. Keep up the good work.
|
Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Excited to see this out and about all sorted.

Re: Andre's 2g GSX build
Very cool project, anymore pics of this beast?
