my brakes seem like they are on all the time. it only happens in after the car has been sitting over night and stops after a mile or so. ill shift out of first and the car will almost come to a stop before i can get it into second. im not sure if it goes away completely after a mile but it gets better. any ideas? maybe just a frozen caliper bolt.

Or a froze caliper.

I had a problem with my rear brakes one time like this. It turned out my brake pad had cracked in half diagonally. When I would back out of my driveway, the pieces of the pad would slide against each other and basically was applying itself to the rotor and would bring the car to a halt before I was halfway down the driveway. It probably isn't that but it sounds like you may have a caliper that is sticking or your pads are worn out. When was the last time you replaced them and how much fluid is in the master cylinder right now? If the fluid level is down, it is the first sign that either you have a leak or your pads are worn out.

ive never changed the pads or fluid. ive had the car less than a month. all the pads look very new though. ill take the calipers off and see if they can slide freely.

If the caliper if roze or hanging up, it will be the piston that's sticking. Sometimes the pins do dry up but not very much. Double check the level of the fluid in the master cylinder to tell if your pads are worn.

Also remember, the rear pads are rarely ever replaced as they are not used as much as the front ones. You could go through many sets of front pads before you go through a set of rear pads. Check those to make sure they are not worn down either.

Im sure its prolly a frozen caliper. Youll have to get all new seals and rebuild whichever one or ones are not going back to origianl position.. I vehad to do this a couple times. Sand gets in there cuz the seals wear out and the piston sticks. Can eat away the disk and pad so do it fairly soon.

You could also have a collapsed brake line that is plugged up internally.

looks like i fixed it. i wont know for sure until i try it out after its been sitting over night. one of the rear calipers was messed up. the piston has two little notches in it and the pad has a small bump on it. ive never done rear brakes before but i think that the bump on the pad is suppose to fit into the notch on the piston. they weren’t and the piston was pushing on the pad at an angle. i twisted the piston around so they fit together and the car feels a lot better. it doesn’t feel like there is something pulling the car back now.
