Project Corvette
Welp, this arrived on Thursday as I got home from work. Its Asshansons old 2006 Corvette. Previous owner ended up dropping a valve and locking the motor after he only put around 3k miles on it over the last 3 years. I made the journey down to Iowa to look at it 2 weeks ago and debated what to do... After some heavy thinking and some negotiating, it's in the garage.
I will start to tear into after our wedding takes place mid July. Overall condition of the car when I looked at it a couple weeks back was rough. Once it was delivered I gave it a bath and an interior polish. It looks in much better shape than I though it would be. Still needs a good exterior detail, but that will come once the engine gets addressed. Still has all the same mods Andrew left on it when he sold it, no changes. Once the engine comes out and I figure out what can be salvaged ill decide on what to do engine-wise. Thinking built shortblock with a mild cam for around 500whp. http://oi59.tinypic.com/2safldu.jpg http://oi60.tinypic.com/95za6e.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/6i5oi9.jpg |

Re: Project... Im back in the game
Nice! Congrats! I'm sure it feels good to have a fun car again, regardless of its current condition. :)

Re: Project... Im back in the game
You are gonna get rid of the supercharger?
|
Re: Project... Im back in the game
I still think you are nuts, but I am excited to see what you do to this beast.
|
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Haha thanks dudes, it is exciting to have something fun again. Supercharger will stay, stay tuned for updates!
|
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Awesome! Glad to see this car back in the family of sorts! How many miles are on the chassis?
|
Re: Project... Im back in the game

Awesome to see, in for updates!
|
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Excited to see what you decide for the motor, a milder cam actually designed for a supercharger application instead of the stupid big one in there now haha.
It will definitely be over 500whp. Oh, and it's already setup for E85, run all of the boost! |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Thats what I told him! He keeps saying, eh. I dunno. I'm like well if it can make over 500whp easily and comfortably, why limit it at 500whp haha.
Honestly, I think you should get slicks and put a chute on it while your at it. |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Andrew put this in the SB
http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...rivetrain.html Incase it gets closed down for some reason: 2006 Corvette 3LT Black/Black/Black 44.5k Miles on the car 1200 miles on new engine, clutch/flywheel, transmission, and torque tube (just broken in) Performance - 427 forged stroked LS3 shortblock (Eagle rods/crank, Mahle pistons, details and receipts available), 11.5:1 cr - FAST 102 intake - LS3 heads - PatrickG Custom grind cam (239/247, .610/.632, 114+2) - Comp chrome moly 7.425 pushrods - TEA dual valvesprings w/ ti retainers - LS7 lifters - SLP underdrive pulley - Monster Stage 4 Clutch w/ Lightweight Billet Flywheel and Remote Bleeder - Built T56 (Doug Rippie Motorsports, details and receipts available) - Rebuilt torque tube - Z06 engine oil cooler - Dewitts heavy duty radiator - OBX 1 3/4" stainless Headers/Midpipes - Corsa Sport axleback - K&N CAI - Tuned by Carl @ CJ Tunes - Z06 fuel pump assembly - 57LB FAST injectors - Planned to tune for E85, hence the fuel pump upgrade - haven't yet (weather's just getting warm here), but will soon unless buyer prefers otherwise - Stainless brake lines (Doug Rippie Motorsports) - Extra set of Hawk pads Exterior - IForged TE10 18x9.5, 19x11 wheels - Nitto Invo 275 front, 305 rear - 30% tint - RPI Designs Taillight and Sidemarker blackout kit (can remove if buyer prefers) - Extra set of 4 C5Z rear wheels w/ Pirelli slicks - Lowering bolts installed front and rear, lowered a bit - Transparent roof Interior - 3LT (dual zone climate, seat warmers, etc) - HUD It was built to be a rock solid daily driver and track day car. The new engine and drivetrain is just broken in, running fantastic. I will have exact dyno numbers soon (very soon if there's interest), but it should be a good bit over 500rwhp and around 500rwtq. I put a lot of time and money into the car, especially this past winter, and was looking forward to enjoying it, but the wife is looking at a career change, and this would facilitate her taking time off to study for a while. |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
2500 horsepower, then hit up the guys from street outlawz and have them come up for racing
awesome dude |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
I'd say do whatever you want to. 500hp is plenty to have fun with, and it'd probably give some nice peace of mind knowing that your not pushing the envelope with the setup which is a nice feeling.

Think about the mpg's you'd get when not driving the puppy haulin mobile. |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
^LMAO.
I'll be surprised if you did the same motor on E85 and not be close to 450-470rwhp. You will love it either way you go. |

Re: Project... Im back in the game
Any idea how bad the engine is? It would be awesome if new pistons/heads and a rebuild would be all it needed! Nice pickup Peter, good luck with it!

Re: Project... Im back in the game
Those LS's are badass. I have an older coworker with a cam and longtubes 2003 5.7 and it makes about 430whp at Doug Rippies. I've driven it, fun car with no headaches.

Will know more once I start dissecting in a few weeks. Would be nice if the block was okay! But im betting on a new shortblock and at least one new head. |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Do it cheap, used 4.8 for $200. :D

Re: Project... Im back in the game
Just saw this! I am glad somebody bought, I was thinking about it myself, congrats dude.
With that being said, any updates!?! |
Re: Project... Im back in the game
Update!
Started to work on this beast after some long delays. Had some major issues getting the title transferred to me, but its finally in my name as of last month. Phew! I told myself I wouldn't touch it anyway after I got married last July, until at least Nov, well the title thing kept me from touching it just for peace of mind. I had plenty of other projects on the table too, bathroom renovation was a big one that im almost done with. With spring on the horizon now that its warming up, I decided its time to dig in. Motor should be out int he next week or two. Started removing stuff yesterday, draining fluids, got the supercharger, alternator, radiator fan, belt, and wiring out so far. I will post more updates as I have them. http://i64.tinypic.com/11c6xr8.jpg |

Re: Project Corvette
Small update. Engine is ready to come out this week.
Removed the steering rack, PS, and other stuff, headers are loose but I need an 02 wrench, socket doesnt fit in that area. Some carnage pics while engine is still together, eager to see more once the heads are removed. http://i65.tinypic.com/jsg179.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/30vf5fk.jpg Crunchies http://i66.tinypic.com/2nw2yhx.jpg |
Re: Project Corvette
In the words of GoatBlower, "put some 88's on it!"
Big Bang Theory http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...g-bang-theory/ Junk yard core. They thought it was a 5.3L truck block, but it was the 4.8L. Only mod was opening up the top ring gap, off the shelf Comp cam, parts upgrades and some work on the heads. 900hp @ 15psi 1203hp @ 26.8psi Engine survived 60+ dyno runs at over 1000hp and stayed together with no issues. Or you could put a big boost 4G64 in it, just saying,..... |
