coolant line confusion
2 Attachment(s)
This is my first Turbo DSM so i dont know if this is normal or from the previous owner.
I have a coolant line that runs right in front of my manifold. I haven't been able to drive the car that much but i would like to not have it in front of the manifold. I don't know my options on changing this, so i turn to you guys. Any recommendations on how i can change this setup? any help is much appreciated!! (i pulled the lines up so it would stand out more in the pictures) Attachment 14894 Attachment 14895 |

Re: coolant line confusion
They're either for the Turbo Coolant Lines or the Oil Filter Housing, it's been awhile so I don'r remember. Your OEM turbo is going to have two oil lines (a feed and a drain) and two coolant lines (feed and drain), and the Oil Filter Housing (Where you literally screw the oil filter on) has a Oil cooler built into it that uses coolant. There should be two coolant lines running to and from the oil cooler.
There is supposed to be an OEM coolant hardline that goes behind the turbo which seems to be missing on your car. |
Re: coolant line confusion
I believe the coolant line your pointing at should go to the overflow tank..

Re: coolant line confusion
The overflow hose is to the left of the rad cap in the picture.

The line have running by my manifold what is it for ? Is it in the correct spot and i am just missing the stock hardline ? |
Re: coolant line confusion
You ever get this figured out? I can take a picture of my engine bay if it will help you get things organized correctly.

If it's as simple as missing the hardline, and the guy just ran a rubber line then I would just need to track it down! |

Upper engine bay - thermostat housing. Is yours a 2g or 1g? Must be the 2g in the info below your sn. Mine is off a 1g. which is why it appears the t-stat housing hoses are a bit different.
I don't have one of the coolant tube behind the turbo by the downpipe on me |
Re: coolant line confusion
after looking it over i decided im just going to get rid of the line and block it at the t-stat and down at the nipple on the water pipe. I believe this line is for the oem oil cooler. But the previous owner installed a external oil cooler and blocked the lines at the OFH. So he was just being lazy and didnt want to block the lines off...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...ps41b1dde1.jpg Been a long times since I've looked at dsm stuff lol. Looks like its for the oil cooler. Could get the parts for like $40 to fix it with oem stuff or could probably shop around and find it cheaper or could probably get that line for dirt cheap used and use the lines you have. Sorry couldn't be of much more help |
Re: coolant line confusion
thanks for the diagram, yeah the line is already gone and i capped both ends.
