89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

1 Attachment(s)
This was my most recent project that I don't have the time to finish. It could have 700whp fairly easily if someone would take the time to put it back together and tune it. The only parts I know it needs are
turbo lines (maybe just one) and slim radiator (one I have might work).

The car is back together for the most part. The eprom will need to be programmed for the settings of the car and installed (can't rmemeber if it is socketed), the turbo setup will need to be installed, the exhaust will need to be modified to mate up with the new turbo (have downpipe for off the turbo), intake setup installed, vacuum hoses and misc lines installed, possibly install a new water pump (hg was blown in it and it might be dirty from that. New timing is already installed and set). I can't really think of anything else off the top of my head. The tranny is stuck in gear and is hard to move currently. The car has new wheel bearings and the suspension is in good shape. The interior of the car is in mint shape (probably could sell to the people on the colt forum) and the body is in ok shape. Some of the paint is faded, the car has a few dings and hail damage but doesn't have any rust.

Was this originally a 4G61T Mirage, or just some base model?

Re: 89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

I am not exactly sure, but I think it was the 4g61t. I guess I could probably research it.

Who did the motor work? Any receipts?

Re: 89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

I got the car with the motor in it and maybe 2,000 on the motor. I don't think there are even that many miles on it. It had a 20g on it when I got it and after having it a few days, I took it apart to put a bigger turbo in, put a FWD tranny on (had an awd one with a VCE) and had a few other things done. I put a new HG on it, new timing and all new wheel bearings. I cannot remember who did the motor but I remember researching the company before I bought the car. The company specialized in race motors (4 cylinders and mustangs if I remember correctly The owner before told me it cost $4,000 for the motor rebuild, I do not have any receipts. I did compression and leak down test when I bought it and there were no issues. Compression was 179-180 each hold and should still be that way.

The car is hard to move right now. I think the tranny is stuck in gear. I am not really looking for trades.

It will be a good fast cheap car for someone.

Re: 89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

Thanks Mark. I couldn't remember what all you did to it.

I found a little info out on the motor from the guy I bought it from. I guess the motor has just over 1,000 on it.

This is what I was told:
"The motor is capable of around 800hp. The oiling system was modified to handle high loads and high rpm's. It has 0.03 over Ross Pistons and Eagle (or Manley) rods. The rotating assembly was balanced and lightened. The head was fully ported and has stainless steel valves with a custom 5 angle valve job. It has comp street/strip (I think its stage 2) cams in it along with crower springs and titanium retainers. ARP bolts everywhere."

Sweet ride. Want to trade for a 98 expedition?

Re: 89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

Not really looking for any trades right now. I might be willing to sell it for a little less if the buyer wanted to throw a motor in a 01 Sebring Convertable for me though.

Re: 89 mirage with 2.3 stroker

After thinking about it a little bit, I will consider parting it if I get a buyer on the motor (head to oil pan, not splitting). You can see a description of the motor in the first post and post 15. It has new timing, hg and other items. If interested in th motor, give me an offer.

If you part it let me know what you want for the shell as a roller.
