Re: Project Lex

Yeah that'd be nice. Just a hard line 1/2 the way down. Flare it at the end and just clamp the last little bit with whatever hose you want. I'd probably just run some regular old 5/8" hose from Vatozone with worm clamps.

If you think of something soon lemme know. Otherwise I may just hold off on that until next year.

Got a little bit done today. Got the interior back buttoned up from the tranny removal/install.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306985898

Also made a little bracket to hold the oil dipstick steady since I removed the massive oem bracket that originally held it. Used some of that spare metal strapping stuff again, I'm starting to like this stuff!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306985898

Also I went to TNT and picked up a 6' length of -10AN SS Braided hose for the drain. fits over the 5/8" barbed fittings perfectly.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306985898

Thanks to Andrew, he gave me this chunk of 2.5" stainless to use on my exhaust. I still need some more bends if anyone has any laying around hit me up!!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306985898

Here is how she sits currently. I found that the turbo flange on the exhaust mani is not flat at all. Not sure exactly how to fix that, but I plan on just taking it to work and pressing it against the belt sander for a few minutes. And hopefully the gasket seals it up the rest of the way.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306985898

Other than that, I'm pretty much getting to the point where piping (IC and exhaust) is all that's left. Getting close, woohoo :)

Re: Project Lex

Looking gooooooood. I have 2.5" piping so let em know if you end up needing some.

See that ground cable? Switch it so it is underneath the metal strap you put in. I did a similar thing on my X and it ended up causing a *really* bad ground. I was basically using a bracket for the starter/alternator harness inbetween another ground and the block. It looked nicer the way I had it and you do but it miiiight cause problems.

Got everything together as much as needed just to start the car up and check for leaks or anything since I had it apart. Started right up! Don't see any leaks so far so that's good!! Just gotta start putting the turbo back on, and all the piping!!

Installed the 4-Runner distributor. Only 2 of the 3 holes line up, wondering if that's normal???

Took the manifold to a sanding belt. Got the T4 flange a bit flatter. Brought it home and threw it on. Installed the turbo hot side. This should ensure the bolts don't loosen up :)
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307318013

Put the rest of the turbo on. The return is a tight fit. The turbo will have to be clocked slightly which you'll notice. Otherwise everything is going fairly smoothly :)
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307318013

Started w/ Turbo on :) No comp cover as it's out for welding. Turbo spinz!!!

Little bit of progress. So the exhaust plan is 3" downpipe going to dual 2.5" in the rear. Got the downpipe tacked up with the Marmon Flange that mates to this turbo. Fits like a champ!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371

Grabbed a section of the Talon's old exhaust to start cutting it up to make the rest of the 3" portion. Grabbed a 3" flange and gasket from MAP, thanks again guys!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371

Here's the only piece I managed to get done tonight, but I'm glad I got it done because I suck at fabbing and I thought getting this angle just right was going to be a biatch. Took me a couple cuts and test fits to get the angle just right.
Gettin that angle juuuuust right
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371
Done, just need to get it welded up!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371

And found an old 2.5" SS Upper IC pipe from the talon that had SS bends. So I cut those off and those are added to the pile of 2.5" random SS bends to use for the 2.5" portions. They're still powdercoated, maybe I'll leave em and see how long until it burns off :)
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1307505371

Huge thanks to Momin (Speedfreak) for taking the time to weld this up for me, and Aaron for lending the equipment!

Dont mean to be a debbie downer here, but i dont think thats quite you're supposed to safety wire bolts.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BL-p4lhe3V...spinner5-w.jpg

I think its supposed to look like that, so that if bolt A tries to loosen it actually tightens bolt B.

I have no experience with safety wire though, so maybe you know something i dont?

Re: Project Lex

I agree, the bolt on the bottom of the picture with the turbo flange can come loose.

Yup, I've done my fair share of safety wiring over the past 10 years (military, and nuke plants require it). That is definately the "proper" way. But doing it that way, the safety wire was going to be rubbing on a corner of the housing, which you can see in that picture, and I wanted to avoid that because I don't want it to rub off the coating, or risk rubbing to the point that the safety wire breaks. I just don't want to look one day and see only 2 bolts barely holding the turbo up (happened to me on the Talon, and is the reason I safety wire them now). They can probably loosen a half turn, but the bolts wont fall off which is my main concern.

Yup, not denying that, but it can NOT come off, and that was my goal.

Re: Project Lex

Yea thats what I figured too, it can come a little loose, but it wont unscrew and fall out. Switching it a bit would be good though, then you dont have to worry about it even loosening at all. Cool stuff!

Yeah. I had it wired like the pic at first, but it makes a tight bend around that corner, and I didn't like that, so that's how it is now, and how it will remain.

Oh okay, that makes perfect sense actually. Sorry for being a doubter!
