Classified Rule Change Vote

Currently you can't post up a new thread in ANY of the Classified thread until you hit the 50 post mark and your status is updated.

Should this be left as is for both the for sale and the wanted sections or should I at least allow those looking for parts the ability to post up a wanted add right off the bat?

This will be decided by membership voting.

**Your Vote will be made public in this poll so that I can also gasp where more senior members voted. I'm sorry but 20 new person votes may just be over turned by 5 of the more senior member votes.**

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

Man, tough call. It seems like there are new guys that come in here from time-to-time that are just trying to get that beat-up $500 dsm they just got running, and then we oust them for not having enough posts. I voted for the change, but I think it should be moderated. Any stupid want ads should be nixx'd with a quickness--at least hold them to being clear about what they want, what specifically it's for, etc. Just my $.02

Maybe bump want ads down to 25?

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I say keep it the way it is. This structure has worked for awhile and I don't see any good things coming out of lowering the post count or getting rid of it all together. If you get rid of it all together then we will be flooded with people just selling shit.

If anything is done I would go with the 25 post thing.

I wouldn't change the rules for selling. That shit is set in stone. I would just change requirements for those lookig to buy something specific. Moderation would be firm and those abusing to sell items in a "sneaky" way would be dealt with.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I voted not to change. However, if they want to buy something and you feel the need to change it, 25 would be great. I believe the rules were first established to achieve an active board, not a for sale board :).

Id say 25 too. Maybe you should change the poll and add a "change to 25". I mean its a DSM site. EVERYONE needs to buy stuff for thier borken DSM ;)

If more ppl are allowed to post wanted ads, we can get rid of more of our crap that we have laying around which equals more money in our pockets=more dsm parts.... my $.02

That is what Im saying. Most of us are looking for quick cash when it comes to parts we have kicking around. I personally change setups often and like to unload parts and use that money to buy more.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I could see changing the rules about posting in the Wanted section, but would there be an option to keep teh ability to start a thread in the for sale section to 50 but to allow people with a lower post count to respond in a For Sale thread? I have used PM's, but I got lucky in the fact that the person I wanted to talk to actually checked them. On other boards I have run into the promblem of people not checking their PM's. Otherwise I think you guys have a good system going.

AJ 01-05-2006 11:55 AM

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

The post cound to actually sell an item would stay at 50. I think after a thread is posted anyone can reply to it. But only members at a certain level can actually start a thread in any of the classified sections right now.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I actually found this site while looking for some parts.

What is the reason you have someone post 25, 50, 100 times before they can post a Wanted/For Sale ad? Well, you kinda wanna get a feel for the person before they try and run an internet scam on someone. Since the majority of the people are local to the Twin Cities, that shouldn't be too much of a problem since they're within driving distance for an ass kickin'.
Now the flip side to that is the people who have really bad grammar skills. Having to read 50 posts from them before they can post their Wanted/For Sale ad is torture for the people who have to read the posts.
If someone is new to the site and wants to sell something cheap or buy some of my parts I have laying around, bring it on. They can have 25, 50 or 100 posts, just bring cash.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

Even thought I have just recently joined I have been reading daily for about 2 years and have noticed a very clean operation here.

In my opinion I thing anyone should be able to post WTB ads but not WTT or WTS sell until they have established some sort or "credibility" on the site. Like said above, it gives the members who are able to sell more hits and helps people get rid of things.

I guess you could try it out and if too many people abuse the privelege just put it back to the way it was before.

i think that a person should be able to post WTB when they want for same reason as above, so we can get rid of our junk and buy more parts. i understand the sell part of it because no one wants to get ripped off. but super duty had a point about being close enough for an ass whooping

For us with shit to sell, having more people be allowed to post WTB threads will allow us more opportunities to sell our stuff.

Thank to everyone for their opinons and votes. I'd like to get another 10-15 votes from some newer members as well before I make a decision either way.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

My vote goes towards keeping it the same. By opening up the WTB section, I can definitely see a number of newbie's stopping by, posting WTB ads, and never checking their ads again. Granted this is a smaller site, but Tuners used to have that as a huge problem until switching the classifieds to a closed format.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I voted to change it, but I think it should be at 25 posts. Other wise I think we would have too many people signing on just to buy stuff. That's just what I think.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

Hi all, I just joined. In my situation I need to buy a DSM a 1g, I voted to change the status to being able to post a WTB. This is because I have been looking since July/August for a AWD and I have not been able to find a godo one in my price range, so for me I would want the WTB, also then once I have a car I can post a WTB for the parts I want to put on the car. This will benfit alot of people I think.

Change your price range?

P.S. voted to keep the the same. I do hate when people go on a board and whore it just to sell some of there crap though!

If there were no restrictions on WTB ads, there would be more of them. Which in turn people, would cause your FS ad to disappear from the first page more quickly, henceforth you lose opportunities to make $.
I vote that it stays the same. 50 posts is not that hard to accumulate, and this way we don't have a bunch of noobs posting excessively and improperly. It gives them some time to learn the rules.

I think it would be a good idea to keep things the same. This system seems to be working just fine the way it is. I just joined the site a little while ago, and there are some things I'd like to buy, but I don't feel it necessary to start a new thread anytime I need something. If people just look around for a little while, chances are, they'll find someone selling the item they want, reply to the thread, and be able to buy it.

I'm new on here and I onw a 1g awd shell, thats it. I need parts but I can also understand you guys not wanting people here for just cheap parts. 25 is resonable.

I've been here since the begining of dsmstyle but my for sale/WTB threads are not showing up. I barely post but I have enough to post in the classifieds. I find the new system rediculous. If I can't post what makes you think a noob can. It's been 3 days and my WTB ad hasn't shown up. It used to be easy. I'd rather have mods bitch and yell than wait forever for a simple ad to show. If it keeps going this way some people are going to look elsewhere to sell/buy their parts. The classifieds is a big reason why I browse dsmstyle.

I'm new to this site, but I am a long time DSMer and I think you should keep it the same. Maybe let people look, but definitely no posting. We have to earn that.

If all you are here for is the classifieds then feel free to browse elsewhere. The current process is not going to change and the site is not a site based around just being here to sell people parts. We try our best to get any and all "approved" for sale threads up within 48 hours. If they aren't up by then it's either because a mod/admin hasn't had a chance to get to it yet or it was declided due to lack of required info.

carltalon 08-20-2006 03:52 PM

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

The new system works alot better then the old system (mods yelling etc). But It would be nice if the ads could be approved faster. and if an ad is declined the poster should be informed via PM why, and what they can do to get it aproved. The classifieds section is alot cleaner and easer to understand now. so I think we should keep the system we have now and just work on ways to improve it.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

I think a 50 post count for a WTB seems appropriate. However, I have personally had issues with getting my WTB part ads up in a timely fashion. I do not mean to imply the mods slack because they don't. I'm simply saying if you are in urgent need for a part, you should be able to find someone with it ASAP! WTB ads are usually very brief and to the point. For example-

"WTB 91+ Power Transistor Unit" (then explain what it looks like)

It took more than 24 hours ( which I could understand ) but I needed the part right then. Granted you might not have anyone chime in, at least you have a chance. Maybe a WTB section could be seperate. I don't know. I'm obviously not an owner of this site, but I do really miss how it used to be. Although, I am thankful for the lack of stupid / worthless ads that no one wants to waste their time reading. That's just my .02.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

We try and get them up within 48 hours. That's all I can say. I don't know how many times I say this, but we aren't here to provied a free slot to have people sell and buy parts. Some members sell a shit ton of stuff on here and have never donated anything to the site. Some members have given more than their fair share time and time again. So I do feel bad when I can't get some posts up fast enough, but it's the right thing to do with moderating the post right now. About the only way I could see it changing would be to up the post count requirement to 100 or more in order to pull off admin moderation of every post.

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

if the classifieds are completley limited to 50 posts, the only people that are going to be buying/selling are people that frequent the site alot. (obviously) but, if it's opened up a lil more, i think that the classifieds will have alot more to offer for new guys that show up, and will give the the more frequent users a little bigger of a market to get rid of their crap as well

AJ 08-25-2006 10:34 AM

Re: Classified Rule Change Vote

That's taking away from the point. We don't want to just let new members show up to sell shit and never come back, and that's what happens. You'd be surprised how many members work up the 50 post mark, sell some misc item on here, and then never return again. I fucking despise that. Persoanlly I'd prefer to open up the classified to everyone on every level and just charge a small flat rate for an ad on here. And put all that money into all these funky ideas Chris, Jana, and I have for prizes. Like turbos and shit ;)

Don't forget about those people who list all kinds of shit for sale, get people's interest, and then never follow up with it again.

I was talking specifically about WTB ads. I totally see your point with for sale threads. Another good point to that is it keeps the thread creation down. Like me again for instance. Instead of making 2 new threads, I've just added to the one I've had up forever. Bump the post count to 1000 for all I care ;)
