Finally getting stuff done on our cars
This thread will be updated fairly regularly for progress on the shop owner/employee vehicles.
So check the back pages for updates. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
**Now I have nothing to say since the pics show up =\**

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
It's good to see things coming together! Keep it up. I know it's hard working on your own stuff after spending the whole day wrenching on others stuff but just keep grindin'
'06 will be the year! |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Those gauges look nice in there.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Awesome work, guys. Glad to see you guys keeping your head above water and having fun.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
ehhhh, is John cars missing a pedal? ;)
Nice work on your own rides! |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
He don't need no brakes!
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I'm not too familiar with 3S interiors, were there vents where your gauges are now Swanny?
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
There were factory gauges where Swanny put his aftermarket ones. The aftermarket ones look nice in there...I'll have to come check it out in person sometime. Since we're talking about gauges, my personal favorites are Defi, but damn are they spendy.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I am so glad I don't make my living turning wrenches anymore. :D Now I can just do it when the mood hits me.
Good job on the cars so far. How about some more pics? |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Yeah, those gauges look nice in there. Kinda like a factory gauge pod. That's even better than the HVAC dial location in the DSM's.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Thanks for the comments. I was going for a 'like factory' look, they even light up red, kinda close to the factory cluster.
Johns car is missing a pedal, good catch ;). We have a few more pics up on the site in the gallerys of the cars. I figure we'll post updates occasionally on the progress. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Lookin Good!!

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
More progress on the cage.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Is any of the interior going back in?
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
On johns car? LOL. Class min weight is 2100lbs, and we are dammed if we don't get there. My car is the "full weight" street car/pump gas warrior, the only street john's car will see is between the shop and the trailer.

So I take it that John's car is going to resemble Joe Bucci's Goodwill Laser in terms of weight reduction when it's ready to head to the track? Do you have a link to the rules for the class John will be running in? |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
-NHRA Hot Rod class, AWD 4g63 2.0, 2 power adders and an aftermarket tranny min. weight 2175lbs w/ driver and turbo limited to T04 exhaust housing and a 74mm compressor wheel.
-NDRA Pro 4 class, AWD 4g63 2.0, 2 power adders, and an aftermarket tranny min. weight 1800lbs w/ driver and turbo limited to T04 exhaust housing and a 78mm compressor wheel. You can run meth in both classes, no tire size rules, slim rules on the interior besides safty equipment. I am looking more at the NDRA class its a little more open with the rules and its the market we are looking at getting with this car. ~John |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
wow, that car should fly. Josh, what turbos or turbo are you going with?
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
i am just running 2x tdo5 14b-6cm2. Should be good for a tad bit over 500whp.
Just your average low 11 second 3s hopefully ;). A "fun" street car is the goal. John has a gt42 for his setup. |

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
We need a manifold? ported 2g won't fit?
Shucks, lets pull the plug on the project. J/k. It'll be a custom tubular stainless unit. |

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
No, I will put the turbo where I want it, then make the manfold to fit, with as equal legth runners as possible. And the waist gate off the colleter in the direction of flow.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
We are waiting on the tie down bars to the center after a chassis inspector comes out, as well as the shock tower ties. We have run into a discrepency with the rulebook and are waiting to hear back from Nopi/NDRA on it. Worst case senerio is the cage will be good to 8.50 et's.
More pics. http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0529.sized.jpg http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0527.sized.jpg We'll find out thursday/friday if its "all good" or start over time. Thanks all for looking. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Damn, thats looking good. Let's hope that the inspector says it's "all good" that way my jungle gym can get started :D . It looks like all that thing needs is a tach, an engine and maybe some lexan then its ready to go.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Is that legal the way the 2 going straight back don't go directly to plates?
edit* accidently clicked on your post instead of post reply |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
That is one of the things we are 'checking on'. The rear of the car is left to ALOT of interpretation. I've seen 'legal' cages with this method before, we'll just see what the inspector says before we move forward. (fully weld in). The other items of question are where the strut mounts have to tie in (90% sure on this one) and how they expect us to "stiffen" inside the driveshaft tunnel to absorb "80% of the vehicle weight in case of a roll over". Its a strong unibody design, but he is hell bent in requiring us to have frame rails in a unibody :(.
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I have seen the rear strut bar design on a few roll cages I looked at, I like the idea and plan on tying my rear strut towers into the rear strut bar. We are also looking into a more indepth rule book on roll cages, or just talking with the inspector, I want to know what I can and can not do. But it looks more like the cage will be certified for an 8.5@150mph(NHRA spec), if thats the case that will be the time to shoot for.

Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Chrome moly front end anyone?
http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0542.sized.jpg Rear strut tower bar? http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0545.sized.jpg Once we get the okay, we'll button it up, get it certified, and off to paint. Have a good weekend all! |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Just a few bars left, till finish weld time...
http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0554.sized.jpg and then ryan gave me a sweet deal on an IOU for his rims. Glad I still have some credit after that QPR fiasco ;). I also cleaned up my calipers and painted them black with my abs delete. http://www.lse-performance.com/galle...0557.sized.jpg Thanks for looking! |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
What is with the 10" of wheel gap Swanny? Are those things 14's? :D
Things are looking good guys, keep it up! |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
Normally I'm looking to put a engine in the car before rims and tires ;) LOL
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
LOL, the rims were sitting here, and i was running out of stuff to do on the car w/o getting more parts. I am waiting on a crank pully to get here, then that and the clutch go to the machine shop for balancing. Then its assembly time of the shortblock, finish porting the heads, get the valves put in..etc..etc...etc..
Jet- Gotta love the wheel gap! Sad thing is, it will probably have 4" of wheel gap once the motor is in it :). They are actually 5zigen FNO1RC's. 17x9 +35mm offest, bronze. I didn't think they would look good, but blue cars can pull off bronze rims, subaru proved this (so did nissan). So this summer will be suspension, brakes, and new tires. |
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I like your old rims better. Progress is progress!
|
Re: Finally getting stuff done one our cars
I like the new wheels! Just get that thing together!
What machine shop are you guys using now? I need to work there:) |
