Looks nice though, if that is all that is wrong with it I would say you got a hell of a deal. Do you have to go get it or is it being shipped? That is a long drive from here.

Nice car but don't get mistaken for the Panda Express.
I hope you own some nice hand tools because from the discription the owner gave he has no clue what is wrong with the car.

CVD 10-15-2005 01:57 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Either he has no clue or it is worse than he lets on so he plays stupid. I'd be concerned, but I hope you have luck with it.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Yeah the part when he says that you can't attempt to fix it, or have a local shop look at it would worry me as well.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I got a friend in San Diego who's gonna pick it up once its paid for. He knows some DSM guys that know their shit about DSMs hardcore. I do agree about how the seller sounds insecure of the problem as well. I know for a fact he is unsure if its the alternator, he said it probably could use a change. I'll laugh my ass off if its just a dead battery. I already located a new alternator for 45 shipped, still working on finding an ecu. If its just a dead end car. I can part it out and try to make my money back plus more.

x-pride 10-15-2005 02:17 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

What it seems like is that he starts out saying it is the alternator and than the story goes down hill. If you have not bought the car yet I would proceed with caution. People just don't give good things up that easily. "He knows some DSM guys that know their shit about DSMs hardcore." Well if that is true how come he does not know what is wrong with the car. It is like Jet or Steve (because you guys are hard core) not knowing what is wrong with thier car. PM Cher about his whole ordeal with his car. Sorry once you join DSM style your like part of the family.

The seller doesnt know, Im talking about my friend who's going to pick up the car once its paid for.

I PMed him, hopefully he can shine some light on the car.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

He does not own the car you are looking at. He had bought a 1991 car from Utah that had many issues with. It has the same color scheme and about as much mod as the one you are looking at. Did you read the thread I pasted?

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 03:02 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I know he doesnt own the car that Im buying, but no I didnt read the thread, I just sent a PM asking him to check out and see if he has any idea what the problem may be. Next time the seller is online I'll find out the problems the car is having I'll post it on here and see what we come up with.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I was with cher that whole trip..man o man the memories. Anyway, I told him that's the panda express..glad to hear that the name still sticks to this day! Anyway, I got pics of your new car on my comp, back when it still had the bronze te-37's..

so Cher used to own the TSi Im going to buy?

CVD 10-15-2005 03:16 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

The car has 'generic electrical issues.' These are always hard to diagnose. The fact that there is an ECU problem and "possibly bad alternator" at the same time throws up a red flag for me. Beyond that, there may be other issues with the engine/tranny that he is covering up. Its especially suspicious that he will not allow you to check the car or have it checked out.

I could see that attitude from someone who just hates the car, is sick of it, and wants out without having to deal with shit, but if that were the case I would expect a rock bottom price, which his asking price certainly is not.

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 03:20 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

actually he wont let a shop look at it, but I can have my friend send out one of his hardcore dsm mechanics to go check it out.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Hey would you think changing out the engine wiring harness out help as well as the alternator and ECU?

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 10-15-2005 05:06 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I guess I'd say good luck. I sorta got raped when I bought my car (read thread linked on previous page). That car is nice, but he's obviously selling it for a bad reason. I guess you could swap the entire harness out and put a good one in. That would most likely solve your problems. Just be prepared for hell though if he has halfassed anything like my previous owner did. Pre modded DSMs aren't done correct 90% of the time. They are halfass jobs. Good luck with your car.

Im going to talk to my friend and see if he can get one of his hardcore DSM mechanics to check it out. I'll let you guys know what he said about the seller and the car.

Outlaw1 10-15-2005 08:53 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

This guy has bolt-ons galore and he doesn't know how to diagnose an alternator? ECU problems too? If you're not a DSM guru this car will be a money pit. If you're a novice DSM'er, you are much better off buying a running car and starting from scratch...unless you want to be part of the jackstand club. Hope you have plenty of tools and a garage to store a broken DSM.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Ok, I have my work set out for me, Im gonna try alternator, ECU and engine wiring harness and see where that gets me. I got the alternator unused for 45 shipped. Anyone has an Eprom ECU (socketed only no mods) or a wiring harness that is in working condition?

Outlaw1 10-15-2005 11:59 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

1 Attachment(s)
See if he will throw in a set of these with the car. They work best with four, one under each corner.

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 12:14 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I got 4 of them and a nice floorjack as well ;)

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

heh, well, despite what they all say, i think it's sweet and it should be simple to fix. i bet it's the voltage regulator on the alt. maybe a sketchy ground on the alt. that's all. :)

CVD 10-15-2005 01:16 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I have the wiring harness if you want to pull it out yourself and dispose of the shell.

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

nah I found one already and an alternator just need an Eprom ECU

CVD 10-15-2005 03:40 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Got one of those too if you're interested, but it already has a TMO chip in it.

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 03:51 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Im still learning about the Eprom ECU, what is a TMO chip? I'll research it and see if I can find an answer.

CVD 10-15-2005 04:16 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

TMO is the first person/company to start reprogramming these for DSMs. It basically has every feature you can program in except injector compensation.

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 04:45 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

What do you have programmed into the chip right now? I plan on tuning with DSMLink.

edit: I just checked out the website, they have some wicked additions they can do but the site says they no longer modify ecu's. www.tmo.com

CVD 10-15-2005 05:06 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

It basically has everything on that website. It is a stage 3 chip. The only thing it doesnt have is valet mode.

Addicted2DSM 10-15-2005 05:19 PM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

so will I still be able to use DSMLink with it or no?

dsm10sec 10-16-2005 01:24 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

Yes, all you need to do is unplug the EPROM and plug in the daughterboard from DSMLink. Then, put in the EPROM ontop of the daughter board. As far as how the EPROM chips work, I don't know. I think they give you a new chip that they've programmed along with the daughterboard and software.

CVD, how much do you want to sell that ECU for?

CVD 10-16-2005 02:35 AM

Re: Sealed the Deal on a Talon TSi AWD

I'm looking to get $275 for it.
