Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

98 Jeep - Picking it up from Steve.

Gotta say I love it! Everything thing we wanted out of all the cars except for the 30+ mpg. We still have the Prizim for that.

We are going to pick up a 3rd ride as a DSM again once we have a place with a little more space for spare parts ;)

But now I have a Ride that can tow as well!

Sweet Deal! The gas mileage wont be fun though. But you can pick up a dsm for that later on...

Nice choice. I drove 20 hours to North Carolina straight through in a 2000 Jeep, it was very comfortable and I think we averaged 20 mpg. The 4.7l V8 is a decently powered engine too.

Yeah, I like it. I'd love it if it got better gas mileage..but what can you do. I guess that's why I went the economically way ;)

See what a front gaurd/cow killer goes for. Not just something used to proteact the front end from light stuff, I want to be able to ram a moose and not break my grill! LOL

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

A K&N and a catback really wake these things up. I put just a K&N in a 5.9 Durango I had and I could feel the difference.

This Jeep is the cleanest one I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. I'm sure Allan and Jana will take good care of it, although if I see it with Scorchers, it's getting repo'd. ;)

AJ 10-13-2005 03:03 PM

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

I think your safe on that one Steve but then again a Jeep with some Mudd'n scorchers would be a twist ;)

It will definatly get a K&N next spring and maybe a nice Cat Back, but I want to add some Keyless Entry, Sat Radio, and a Brush Gaurd First.

Then intake and exhaust, then jack the beast up.

Jana's gonna read this and smack the shit out of me later.

They actually are selling the diesel Liberty in the US this year. 300 ft/lbs of torque and 30 mpg! It looks like a nice SUV guys, we know who is driving to the clubs now!!

Yeah, the Ranch Hand bumpers are bad ass. I have one on my Chevy truck. I think the frame would give way before the bumper would!

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

Hell yeah!
The 5.2L came in the dakotas before they started putting my 4.7L into them. they are both great motors but you can find a hell of alot of things to do to the 5.2 because most of the same stuff will fit the 5.9 or 360 which have been around a wile.
I would def get a K and N FIPK try sam at Socaldakota.com (sells more than dakota stuff) and he could hook up up like he did me ( I shopped around alot because I am a poor student.)
on my truck I am getting about another 60 miles a tank out of it with exhaust and intake. I would say it is worth every penny! and it is paying for itself fast.

Great jeep! and good find. a friend lifted his 3.5 in for under 800 bucks, (looks pimp!) I could get info for you it you want.

ok I will stop on my mopar excitement.

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

The K&N is a good idea if you have seen improvement in the mpg. The lift...lol, he knows he won't be doing that for quite some time. ;)

Kracka 10-19-2005 12:48 PM

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

Look at AFE filters too www.afefilters.com

They are similar in design to K&N, but much better quality for not a lot in extra cost.
If you go with a K&N, www.4filters.com has them about as cheap as you'll find them.

AJ 10-19-2005 12:49 PM

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

LOL!

Yeah Intake and Exhaust (at least some better flowing cat back) would be a good investment.

The only thing I would like to do otherwise is new shocks as from my reading after 75k miles the ride goes downhill. Godo thing I you can get some nice shocks for $200-$300. Maybe next summer as the ride feels damn good as it is now. I won't worry about lifting anytime soon. When I do it will be a 2" lift and just a bit bigger tires. But that's after it's paid off.

Enes 10-19-2005 02:06 PM

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

bigger tires = less MPG

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

That's why it's after it's paid off. Then it may become more of a toy. Or just intake and exhaust and use it to tow whatever DSM I have down the road.

BuildADSM 10-20-2005 08:45 AM

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

I def. saw improvements with MPG with the K and N. With that and exhaust I am currently getting 18-19MPG CITY instead of the stock 14.

I talked to my buddy and he said that his lift is fabteck parts all pieced together. when he got the truck he had 31's off of his old one but they wouldn't fit so he bought some 2 in urathane spacers for 70 bucks though you could probably get them better online.
he said that was the best thing he ever did and that you just slide them on top of the stock springs and you have 2in lift. He is still kicking himself for selling them and not keeping them to add on to his current lift.
There arn't too many great bull bars for them but you can get a nice steel bumper like the one in the pic you posted. moose wouldn't stand a chance.

Re: Finally made a solid decision on our new ride!

If all goes well I will be picking it up today. Then it's off to Sams Club to load it up with some goodies, then home to unload, then across the street to the Gravel Pit for some pics ;)
