DD Dsm?

I was just thinking about what people drive, dumb question right? But are you a daily DSM driver? I have been a DSM DD all summer, (knock on wood) with little to no problems. Hell I have been a DSM DDfor most of my DSM’s rebirth, when I rebuilt the motor 7+ years ago, at least in the summers. The number one thing I break is the FWD transaxles, good thing I can rebuild them. This winter I will be driving a shit colored 1984 Buick Skylark with the 2.5L 4cyl.

When my DSM is working, its a daily! The DSM I have now will not see snow... I'm gonna be driving a rusty buick for the winter!!

I'm on my second dsm, and both have been my dd.

This is the first time my Talon isn't my DD. Other than this it has been, when it was running that is! I DD my motorcycle when possible. Nothing wakes you up in the morning like a big ass wheelie :D

Whenever I've had a DSM its always been my DD. This yr though I may just save it from the damn rust and drive a beater.

mine was when i was in the military, because then when it broke, I could just knock on my buddies door in the morning and get a ride from him. But now that I have a job to go to, i bought a daily driver and since the day i got it, the DSM has been down. Can't wait to get it working and enjoy it a little, and then sell it!

My GVR-4 is my DD, I don't know why I did that to myself....

Re: DD Dsm?

My DSM is my DD. That's probably why it's always breaking down and gaining mileage like nothing. Went from 76K to 115K in only 3 yrs. I gotta stop driving so much.

Re: DD Dsm?

My FWD TSi was my daily driver. It's gone so now my AWD TSi will be my daily driver.

I drive my galant vr-4 everyday, and sometimes my R6

Re: DD Dsm?

My Stealth is my DD in everything but winter (even did one winter with it). Only left me standed once (alt crapped out) and I was able to limp it home the next day with a jump.

I'm currently debating getting a galant VR-4 or Buick Regal GS as a replacement DD. I need a car with HP. ;)

GVR-4579 10-02-2005 03:58 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

If you can find one, i would go with the GVR-4 obviously thats my choice, but i would say more for the DD part because its got the AWD for the winter.

MustGoFaster 10-02-2005 04:37 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

I DD my GVR4 in the summer. Never left me stranded, but everything was new so it didn't have a choise. My Stealth will be my summer DD if I can get it tuned to 25-30mpg. If not I will switch between my Grand AM (winter car) and the Stealth (probably mostly the stealth though).

Re: DD Dsm?

93 Ford Festiva. Oh ya thats my DD and be for winter and sometimes summer. Thats when I get my Talon running. The Festy is the best car I ever own.

unreal808 10-02-2005 09:32 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

I hope you mean the Festy is the most reliable car you have owned, and not the “best”. :-)

Re: DD Dsm?

Don't knock the festiva, I got the new and "better" Aspire, haha, its nice for a DD, you don't burn premium like its water on marathon day, you have to TRY to speed, and when you do break your DSM, you have a vehicle left to go get parts in.

Re: DD Dsm?

The DSMs have always been the DD. At 240whp or at 617whp, they were daily drivers because I'm a broke ass without money for another car.

I would take the Festiva over my 84 Buick, but the Aspire or as I call it Assfire is made by Kia..Old Bankrupt like two Times ago, Old Kia. still I would take the Kia/Ford over the 84 Buick, this car is so slow I think a scooter could take it in a race.

Its the same motor as always though....

My Glorified is the DD. But not for long. As soon as I get the title transfered and the new tabs for the Mazdarati, we are going to start cleaning out the garage and bye bye she goes for winter!

Re: DD Dsm?

So are people just scared of the salt on the road? Are there tons of wrecks in the snow or something? If people are putting cars away for the winter that only cost $4-6k, wtf are they driving during the winter? Kinda makes me wonder when I actually bought my Talon to drive and so many people are putting them in storage.

Tauni 10-05-2005 04:59 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

Your from Texas, haha, you know nothing of a MN winter. But you will!!

Joking, haha. Actually my car is in really nice condition. The paint is nearly perfect and I want to keep it that way. Plus, I plan to do a little re-modeling ( ;) ) on it this winter, if my funds will allow me. But I only spent $300 on my winter car, so I'm not concerned with that.

Also, last year I drove a Chevy Lumina. It was my only car at the time. But I had a hard time keeping it under control. Granted, it was my first winter ever driving in snow, considering I had lived in Texas when I first started driving. But I ran into a lot of curbs and didn't feel like fucking up my Glorified when I could spend $300 on a car that I would enjoy running it into things!

Re: DD Dsm?

All the white stuff we have in the winter isn't snow, it's salt.

Re: DD Dsm?

I actually lived in Wyoming for a year and I didn't think the snow was that bad. I keep hearing horror stories from the locals about how bad the winter is here though. I don't remember anyone putting their cars up for the winter in Wyoming. Hell, I don't really remember seeing too many garages there.

Tauni 10-05-2005 05:17 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

I know it that. But I'm saying Snow, Salt, Whatever. Snow makes me run into things. Salt eff's up my paint. So I spend 3 hundo and store it for the winter.

9guy9 10-05-2005 05:33 PM

Re: DD Dsm?

We dont get all that much snow here, we get lots of icy slushy slippery shit. So they spread tons of salt on the roads. The salt works quite well at removing paint and turning metal to rust.

I do lots of alignments at work. It is very obvious when a 5+ year old vehicle comes from some where south or west, where they dont use salt on the roads. The adjusters actually move and aren't rusted solid.

Re: DD Dsm?

I don’t have 4-6K to replace My DSM, but I do however have $300 for a winter beater. To me it’s a good feeling that on a typical MN snow & salty day, I can clime into a $300 bucket and have no fear of destroying it on the road, now if I was to drive the DSM (my beloved toy) and have to deal with all of the other jackass‘s on the road, I would get sick., so I wash it and park it.

I've been in Wyoming in the winter. Devils Tower area. 3ft of snow there is = to 2 inches here. Biggest threat I think here is the salt is crazy and it doesn't help... people can't drive for shit in the snow here in the cities. I think more people are afraid of someone running into their DSM. But this goes with rain as well. ;)

I drove the stealth through the winter of 2003. I didn't like it, and was worried sick about someone smashing into me. It will be stored this season.

What worries me is this, how reliable is the $300 car? If it's -20* I want to be in something that has as close to zero chance of breaking down on me as possible. Not to mention, the heater has to rock hard. I've heard people here carry survival kits with blankets, water, food, etc. I don't think I'll have much problem 'cause I only drive 16 miles each way to work. I take CR46 from Ipava to highway 52 North straight to the refinary. All of it is good road and hardly any traffic at all.

What I don't understand is why so many people drive under the speed limit in the LEFT lane. After living in Houston and Dallas I just got so acustomed to seeing the left lane open and just used for passing. Another thing I haven't quite figured out is the stop light on the onramp thing. The offramps, I don't even wanna talk about those. I will say this though, my road sign reading skills have gotten much better since I moved here. I don't know how many times I've gotten off the freeway expecting to go North and been stuck going South, or vice-versa.

My $300 car... Man I trust that thing almost as much as I trust the talon. And the heat ROCKS! But then again I did buy it from my friend. Good $300 cars are asy to find. My advice, find a Russian and have him find you one through an auction. No, it won't be pretty but it gets the job done. My friend bought an old laser from one of those as his winter car, and it would have worked great, but he beat the shit out of it, and ended up having to kick out the passenger window to get into it once. But other than that, cheap cars are fine! For the most part.

I had a DD DSM for about 4 years until just recently. The only time they really broke is when I was hammering the fuck out of them. Plus they were decently modded. If you leave them stock they will run for a long long time. You will always have the normal things like alternators, battery, ect go bad though.
