Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
You know that is the Porkey's Shootout. I'm gonna try to go.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I "plan" on being there. New HG and some porting on the turbo. Hopefully I can get tuned on race gas next week too.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
anyone have an open seat on the ride down there? pitch in for gas i will!
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I think I have to work that weekend. :(
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
JET I will give you a hand doing the HG this weekend, it shouldn't take more than a few hours to do. I wanna go next weekend too.

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I'm going out next Thursday night, so maybe Next Sat I can make it down to IA. I'd probably be heading to Decorah on Friday night then down to Cedar Falls on Sat morning to meet up with you guys.
That's if Jana wants to go. <--- the downfall of owning 1 car. |
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I'll be going.

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
-Peter won't be making it guys-

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I got a wrench thrown into my plans. I am going to be out of town almost all of next week for work. Thanks for giving me like 3 days notice. Craig is gonna try and help get my car to the dyno so Shane can tune it the rest of the way. I will be back Friday night, so we'll have to see what happens.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
So are you folks all heading down on Saturday still?
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
That's my plan...
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
My car is going back to Elite in the morning. Hopefully the boost creep is reasonable now and we can dyno all the way to redline. I should know more tomorrow after the car gets dyno'd (I am by Madison, so Craig is taking the car to Shane).
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I hope all goes well. I can't wait to get some high-res video of that thing at the track!

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Yeah I got JETs car all back together yesterday, it started right up with no leaks. It was idling like shit (3300rpm) but I found a hose the didn't get hooked up after the head was put back on. Once I put that hose on it dropped down to about 1500 or so.
I took it out so I could get a few heat cycles on it before I retorque the head studs. It was still boost creeping a little bit but not as bad as before I don't think. At most I saw about 21lbs on the street at about 5500 rpms I am guessing. I didn't want to rev it all the way since I hadn't retorqued the headstuds yet. We will see what happens on the dyno. I am going to let it go as far as 30lbs or so, if it creeps past that then something else has to be done to get the boost creep to go away. |
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I'm going to watch not race. My car didn't make the power I wanted, it has a couple issues and needs to go back on the dyno for more tuning. As it sits right now, it will probably run a low 12 with a decent launch and quick shifts, maybe high eleven with a great launch and good shifts and a strong tailwind.
I am going to hook up NLTS and see how that works tonight. I need an afpr, intake, cams, head and some horsepower. Jim |
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Where are we meeting and when?
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
A fair warning: Highway 20 was crawling with cops today so when ya'll roll off of I-35 to Hwy. 20 it would probably be best to take it easy.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
We are planning on meeting at the shop at 9am. We should be on the road by 9:30ish...
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Yeah Jet and I are either going to meet at Steve Hills house or maybe at Elite as well. See you all there, sounds like there will be a few trailers there, doesn't nobody have faith in their DSMs anymore?
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I will be leaving from the McStop in Lakeville at about 9:30. I'm hearing a bunch of people are meeting there, so I may caravan with them, but I will be going at a relatively normal speed the whole way.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
We are leaving in a few minutes here, see you all there.

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Nobody broke anything except Matt Jannusch (sp). He killed another T-case in his 3S. The run after Craig and I convinced him to use his stutter box.... Oooops!
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Anyone get any halfway decent times or did everyone do bad and have tuning issues?
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I only got 3 runs in. I had stutterbox issues on the 1st two runs. The last run I got a 12.003@122.89. It was breaking up really bad after 6,800 rpm, so I couldn't rev it out. I won't be able to do anything with it the rest of the week, but hopefully next weekend I can work on it.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
That isn't a bad run for having problems but it seems like everyone has issues when they go to the track.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
That place was a joke, the track was prepped good, but they didn't give a flying fuck about the street cars. The only way you could get runs in is if you were on slicks. They let the slick lanes got 3 times to 1 over the street car lanes. It was a nice day out though and there were some fast cars there. I had fun watching, if I was racing though it would have been frustrating.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Maybe I should try to test out the slicks on my gst there then if it ever runs.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Overall it was a shitty race day for me.
My car would not make more than 26psi. On every single run I had 38-43 counts of knock (unsure if it was real knock or not) under full boost (on C16). And my car kept falling on its face through half of a gear. For instance, 1st and 2nd would be ok, then into 3rd and the car just wouldnt accelerate. Then maybe 2 seconds later the power comes back. It did this in random gears at random times. Each pass degraded by about 2mph. The first being 117, then 115, then 113 then 112 i think. Track prep was ok early on. My first 2 runs were both 1.7 sixty foots. The second two were 1.8's with tons of wheelspin. My best run of the day was the 12.2 @ 115 with a 1.78 60' time. I feel lucky to have gotten so many runs (4) when some only got 2. It was poorly organized and busy. My car did break. At the very end of the day as I was leaving my oil filter gasket failed and pretty much evacuated most of the oil pan. Luckily I cought it before it could cause any damage and luckier still, Reid and his dad stopped to help out. It took an hour and a half to diagnose and fix. Fortunately we found an Advanced Auto Parts about 15 miles away that was open until 10pm. After that the car did make it home finally. By about 2am. It will probably never move under its own power again as it is being parted out and the shell junked. In all, the time, effort, and money to get down there this weekend probably wouldnt have been worth it even if things had gone well. I should have cut my losses and parted the car weeks ago. I'm lucky the car made it home under its own power. |
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
I pulled a 1.73 60' early on at the rock, and I got 14 runs in, hehe. My cars pretty light though, and later i couldnt get more than a 1.83 with the tires spinnin like crazy, but over all it went really well... I actually saw them spraying some sort of tire compound down, I was impressed....
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Yep, Iowa sucked. I got in four runs, all low 12's. I missed second and third gear on every run, big delay, but still never went slower than 119.8 mph. The car felt good in third and fourth, but I forgot my laptop power cable, so I couldn't log anything and had to make fuel adjustments with Jet's laptop(thanks Jet) by reading the plugs. I did pull a 1.63 sixty foot though. Track prep was awesome.
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Just out of curiosity, how come no one ever goes to Tri-State anymore? It's not that much further than Cedar Falls and is where AJ pulled his T25 times so there must be something good there. ;)
|
Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Well Iowa pretty much sucked for me. Not worth the drive this weekend. Track was good, and I know it's not normally this packed, but there were way too many cars yesturday. At a track where most people have unlimited runs, I only got 2. The first run was my first time launching in a year, and with a lot of power. It was a 11.4@131, with a 1.74 60 ft. Second run, the dipstick popped out, and there were at least a couple of boost leaks(logs showed we were down 7lbs on the run). After the launch the car fealt slow as hell. And what a waste of a good 60 ft, 1.64. That run was a 11.6@122. And that was it, no more runs, no time to get used to the car.

Re: Cedar Falls Saturday Sept. 17th
Oct 2nd at Tri State is the import showdown. I know it's scheduled, and he was keeping me updated on plans for the weekend... but he stopped even asking so I wonder how big the event will be. If you guys hwere heading to IA again this year that is where i'd suggest going.
