Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Well to go along with Jet's thread. Started the car for the first time today. Everything went perfectly. Tranny's still in one piece (hahaha)
Changed the Oil and Filter and then Went for a Drive around the Townhouse complex (18 buildings with some straights, and several turns would make for a fun road coarse if it wasn't for the speed bumps) Anyrate didn't put the hood on at this point temps stayed low, but she ran fine (stalled alot) as the idle was really low and I was out of Gas (like coasting into the gas station out of gas) So Mike had to go home, so I made this an opportunity to drive the car to his place and back. (ended up being 26 miles round trip) Hit up the gas station fixed the idle but then the trottle went up to 1600rpms, so I had to adjust the throttle cable. (no biggy) and all was well. Basically it's a 5 turn event from my house to his with plenty of open/back roads. So did several back to back pulls 3K-4500rpms getting on boost till 5psi and then coasting back down to 3K. Everything was going well Intake temps were up to 196 occasionally went up to 216 when I was going slower then 40mph. I had some concern on the way back that I might need to switch to a lower thermostat. (ie: my previous 2G motor I had to go from a 180 degree to a 170 just so that my temps would go down from 216 to 190) Might have to do that same thing here. As on the way back I got stuck at more stop lights then going there and my temps were always at 200 when driving (less then 40mph) and when stopped it went up to 230. Coolant isn't bubbling it's totaly fine Oil level is perfect and I didn't see any spots when I left Mikes or my place. She's parked for the night and the garage is clean so we'll see what the morning brings. but so far so good. I'm seeing 5 psi by 3300 rpms which I think was much sooner then my previous motor. I have noticed it definetely needs tuning in the lower rpms. It stutters alot when I hit the gas. then gets up and goes. I should have taken picts and posted them but I'll do that tomarrow. |
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
230 is way hot for the motor. A lower thermostat is not going to lower your temps from where you are at now, its only going to delay the heat up process on initial driving. You need some stronger fans or something to improve flow to the radiator- obviosly your not getting enough air to cool the coolant when standing in traffic.
I have the same problem when it gets 90+. |
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Looking good brian, but find a way to get those temps down!

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Not sure how other then continiously driving. I have a fluidyne Radiator and 2x1000CFM Fans already. I'm using 90% Water and 10% coolant. Everything is brand new. But it's this damn heat down here. Heat index today was 105.
Temps stayed under 200 when we were actually driving wasn't till I continiously hit every Light and Traffic on the way home that it went up. But I will say the under hood temps are just rediculious like always. I already removed the rubber rain guard when I was still in MN to help battle the high temp issues I was having, (normal driving temp was 216 and 220 when on boost) Only thing that helped was when I lowered the thermostat. Then it just stayed in continious loop. Also I always have 1 Fan on at all times. the 2nd fan turns on when I push the A/C button. When the temps get over 220 I turn the 2nd fan on and the temps come down. I'll check the coolant level tomorrow the motor originally on warm up used a lot of coolant from the overflow bottle, I refilled it up and on the 1st and 2nd trip it didn't move at all. man does that radiator stay hot though. I went out an hour or so later and it was still hot to the touch. But then again even though it's 10:30 it's still in the upper 80's here. And humid as hell. (you just drip with sweat as soon as you open that door) |
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
well went out this morning and checked the car over. Coolant was still full, and the oil is fine, not a drop on the floor.
Hopefully Jenny and I will take her for a spin in a little while for lunch and then on a few arrends |

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Yes I still have the Torino's in there. But getting the Car running was my first goal before I trade them up for the Pro2000's.

Looks good Brian.

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
sorry about some of the picts being a little blurry. That's what happens when you walk outside from an airconditioned place into the heat cause it's so damn hot. (at 8am this morning it was 89 outside) I kept having to wipe down the lense and then take a shot, re wipe down the lense...

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
That manifold looks familliar
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Which manifold? the T3/T4 turbonetics or the Magnus 1G SMI?
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Looks good Brian, gratz on getting her up and running again!
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
turbonetics. I have the same one.

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Damm it looks good.

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Lookin' good Brian!

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Hey brian what did you do with the shipping valve cover?
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
It's now covering my 2G Head that's still in my garage.
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Well the car is now up to 122miles. time for the next oil change. Took Jenny up to moroso this evening when we started the trip I was only at 73 miles. I drove her around the Pratt and Whitney Space Division first.

Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
hey mang, if you mix coolant and water (distilled) correctly, you get a higher boiling point as well as freezing protection. pretty much 50-50, as everyone knows.
chemistry will blow your mind. |
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
The car looks great man!
I used some "wetter water" after installing my FMIC cuase I was getting warm as well, it brought my temps down ~20 degrees or so! |
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Looking good man... I want to see some dyno and track numbers!
|
Re: Update on the Car progress - (joining Jet)
Well supposedly my friend Mike was at a Shop today right down the street (like 2miles)
Getting a boost gauge and he was talking with the guys about it and was wondering if they new of any dyno's in the area, and he said that there was over by A1A (i know about that one, I'd have to conver to FWD to dyno) But he also said that there was an AWD Dyno right up the street from this shop. Supposedly it's right by Allied Roofing Supply's (one of our suppliers which i happen to go to all the time to pick up materials) It's about 7 miles from here. I'll have to get the shop name again as I forgot it and head over there to see if they actually do have an AWD Dyno. |
