My progress...Part Deux!
3 Attachment(s)
Well, things are coming along very nicely on my car. I should be able to drive it to the cookout on Sunday.
The bottom end has fresh bearings even though the originals looked fine. The cylinders were rehoned slightly larger than before and new pistons put in. The head was welded up and decked (a lot!!). My lumpy cams (crower 415's) are in and the fidanza cam gears on. Thanks Mike for the help with the engine! I got a big ass FMIC for it and I am making 3" IC piping for it. I am running the stock intake manifold until mine are completed. Same turbo as before (SCM61 with T04S cover). I also put in a twin disk clutch this year. I spent WAY too much time detailing and painting the engine bay. The pic's don't do the engine bay justice. The bottom pic is a stock 1g SMIC on top of the FMIC. |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
still no engine in the hole!! I might just have to come out there if a couple projects get completed ( to the cookout that is). I wasn't going to go since mine wont be ready, but I'd still like to see cars that I've been waiting for a long time to see.
Looks good so far jet ;) |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Looking good. Got my car put together this afternoon. Should be doing the initial test start up tomarrow.
Put the oil and Coolant in tonight. So that it can sit overnight, hopefully there won't be any puddles on the ground in the morning. |

Looks sweet man. Everything looks nice and clean. But I would like to mention that I love your fmic. Kinda reminds me of mine ;)

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Is yours 4" thick Brandon? The core on mine is 12"x24"x4". I am trying it out for a possible kit in the future. We'll see how it holds up!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
mine is 12x24x3 with 3" inlet/outlets. But I have reducers on there because I'm not anywhere near a point where I'd need 3' piping, so I just have 3 - 2.5 reducer couplers on there.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Damn man! You've mad a lot of progress since I saw all this last night! Nice work man!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Great, get that thing done so we can go hit the tracks.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I am taking care of some things that I didn't like about my setup, so it is taking a lot of time. I won't have the new FMIC on there, but I should have the car running and at the cookout with the old one on. The engine still isn't in yet, so it will be a long night!

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
car work ends when squeeking begins!

Re: My progress...Part Deux!

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Good luck jet.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I guess I needed some more luck. I didn't get the car going in time for the Cookout, as I had hoped. I am about 4 hours away from finishing it! The engine is in, just need the T-case, radiator, FMIC and turbo put on it. It will fire up this week.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Well, I think it will be running tonight. I got the clutch hooked up last night, turbo on, alt., belts, motor mounts, starter, etc. I am really surprised at how stiff the twin disk clutch is. I had always heard it was near stock pedal pressure, but it feels like my 2600 did! I am not exactly cranked about that.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
What brand of twin disk?
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
It is a Devo unit (quarter master).
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Alright we pulled off the tranny and took the clutch back off. Everything looked fine at first. Then Nash made a statement about seeing the rivets on the back disk. I started to look at it a little bit closer and that was the problem. The guy from Devo even said they can't go on backwards, but that fixed it. The need to provide SOMETHING with the clutch for instuctions or a diagram. All I got was a clutch in a box. I would expect a bit more when you pay over a grand for it!! Anyway, good progress will be made the rest of the night and I should hear a rumble tomorrow if all goes well.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Nice catch... Good thing you didnt run it like that!
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Yes, Nice find. And good thing you caught it. Hope all goes well and look forward to seeing what she'll run at the track

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
still a go on saturday?
-E |
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
I am going to have to pass on Sat. I think. The car will be running, but I won't have really any time for tuning. I am going to tune on Sat. and either go to the sport compact day on Sun or something next weekend. I can't find much going on next weekend though, just Cedar Falls having night drags on Sat. I am not sure if that would be worth it for 5 hours of racing.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Night race at Cedar Falls is a toss up, drive for 8 hours to race for 5. I would say its worth the trip if you know the car is all good to go.

Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Yeah, I feel the same way. They race until midnight, so I would get back at like 4am :(
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Can you spend the night?
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Yes if you pay for the two days.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
What do you do all day Sat while you are waiting for the night drags to start? They don't have any day racing next weekend, just night drags. That seems really odd.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Grill out on saturday afternoon? Fix whatever you broke friday night?
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Wow, the car is lookin' good JET! You need a new pretty oil cap tho, and what do you use to paint your manifold?
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
Thanks sleepy! I don't remember what the stuff is called, but it is a cold plating process, not actual paint. Basically it adheres a layer of aluminum on the piece being painted. It is not real tough and clear coat kills the shine, so it isn't something I use a ton.
|
Re: My progress...Part Deux!
electro plating.
