USB DSMLink

Among my other DSMLink projects going at the time, I've made a DSMLink adapter with a USB connector as apposed to a DB-9 serial.Which will eliminate issues with USB to serial adapters. But, at present, to not conflict with the makers of the DSMLink, I will need to transplant an existing chip from your serial DSMLink adapter. These work 100% identical, with zero issues.

It in recognized by Windows as "DSMLink Adapter", and uses a virtual COM port driver(meaning it will show up as an additional COM port).Your original serial DSMLink adapter can be returned to normal for warranty/update issues. The USB adapter will have several feet of wire to further eliminate the need for the serial extension cable required for the serial DSMLink adapter.I"m making these in a low volume at first to address some issues I've heard from the locals with problems running USB to serial adapter or for people with laptops which don't have serial ports, and don't want to purhase an adapter.Still working on the final price, but it will be around $50.PM me with any interest.

The DSMLink software isn't even written for Macs, only Windows.

Isn't there an emulator or a VM for that?

Sort of, The DSMLink box will no longer have a db9 connector, just a few foot wire which ends in a USB plug.So no serial-USB adapters at all, the DSMLink box is know total USB.

Yeah, but I use their encryption chip, so there are no conflicts with the DSMLink guys.

Awesome!

Re: USB DSMLink

Details:
The original DSMlink adapter contain the very common (MAX232)RS232 to TTL level converter, I've just replaced that converter with a USB to TTL converter. The rest of the adapter circuitry stays the same, so no piracy issues, and the DSMLink guys don't get their panties in a bunch.IMHO They should've done this years ago.

Doubt its patentable, and I'm not so sure I trust these guys not to just do it themselves.I've always got a sense of greed from the DSMLink guys, which I could be totally wrong about. In emails they had said they had a USB version in the works, but that was months ago.It took me a little over an hour to have a working one, which makes me think they don't really care about customer requests.

Or the original guy that designed it knew his shit, left the company, and now they don't know wft to do & don't want to admit it. ;)

Eric, I would love one of these.

Anyone want to buy a used-three-times usb-to-serial adaptor?

Maybe you should contact them about your cable. Maybe they'd be interested in working out a deal. All I know is the support Thomas and Dave provide on the DSMLink private forum is top rate. They have huge lists of requested improvements and I doubt USB is high on the list since serial works fine for most people but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be interested if someone else has already done the work.

If my serial port craps out I'd definetly me interested in a USB version but so far it's been flawless. Nice hack regardless!

Now if you could just make an adjustable circuit for my Stealth to turn off my AC at a particular TPS voltage that'd be great. Then I can be lazy and not tighten the belt. ;)

He is long gone.

Why don't you just buy the suggested cable.

Re: USB DSMLink

does any one know how to contact lightninggsx email address maybe... He has the suggested cable unless someone here has one they will sell

LMAO! Trying to buy only a cable is like asking a father for permission to have sex with his daughter! Good luck on a cable search!

Lightning GSX is long gone [with some people's money] and isn't exactly a popular fellow on this board.

Re: USB DSMLink

And trying to steal someone's hard work and development isn't popular either. Buy it legitimately like most everybody else. Unless you have purchased it and just want to use USB instead of the serial port, than disregard the above.

Re: USB DSMLink

Well I bought it and lost the cable when my car was stolen... damn lightninggsx thought it was real :(

Just contact the DSMLink guys.

samnumba1 07-01-2008 04:32 PM

Re: USB DSMLink

Thats the problem. They don't replace lost cables anymore even though I can prove to them I bought it. They only repair broken ones :(
