Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

Just read it on CNN's website that oil hit a new record today. SOB's anyway. Pisses me off. I think they did it just to do it. What are you guys paying today for gas in MN?

As of this minute:
87 octane $2.29
93 octane $2.43
Diesel $2.41

I will expect to see that with the new record, that gas will be $2.40's by next week and in the 2.50's+ by 4th of July weekend for 87oct. Not looking too good. I live in an area that people just don't have that kind of money for those extra expenses. Even at the bank we see a trend going on right now.

*** This ought to be illegal. The station down the road just raised their price yesterday due to the oil going up. However, those oil jumps of OPEC are July's Oil. Secondly, I found that they didn't even recieve a new load of fuel in yesterday. So the price bump was actually on fuel that they purchased at the old amount. Gas stations are actually benefitting huge from this. They increase price at the pump on a moments noticed and take forever to decrease it.

I don't know what's worse, the towel heads over seas or our own people! Fuck it makes me mad though.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

$2.50's would be fucking great, I go out and buy the minute it hits $2.50 the past12 months ive been down here its been $2.67-2.78

Enes 06-23-2005 04:59 PM

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

doesn't matter when they purchased the fuel...

the way they see it.

We are selling you the fuel at the price we are paying for it right now. Doesn't matter that the fuel you are actually pumping in was bought as crude oil months ago at a different rate. You are actually paying replacement of the crude oil they had to use that they purchased long time ago.

Onefast99gsx 06-23-2005 05:15 PM

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

So we are purchasing fuel that was bought as crude months ago. A few months ago or so, oil was in the mid 40's/ barrel. So they're making money on us twice??

What everyone think of that possible big China deal to buy out a huge oil company here in the U.S. Chevron made a bid of 15 billion, China outbidded it at 18.5 billion dollars. If the government allows it to go through in which they probably will, this could be a huge impact.

DAM!! 80 miles. I drive 1/2 mile everyday now. I haven't always been that fortunate though. Years ago when i got my first I.T. job I was driving 70 miles "ONE WAY" to it. Did that for over 2 years. I refused to move because all my friends were where i lived so i figured i'd be there anyways. Now 10 years layer, i could never do that drive. I'd get too sleepy.

Never remember anyone bitching about the price of gas when Clinton was President.
Just thought I would fuel the fire.

What was the cost of fuel when Clinton was Pres? I don't recall..... But I don't EVER, EVER remember paying $2.43 a gallon.

Its better than having some libral in office who wants to take away the working mans money to "make peace" across seas. IMO if Kerry was in office right now, shit would be a lot worse.

I hope I didnt turn this into "one of those politic threads" I apologize ahead of time

I think were spending alot more with bush in charge waging war, than if we were just trying to make peace... my .02....

If there wasn't 80,000 tanks and other military vehicles over seas using so much damn fuel we would have no gas problems.

Brently If Kerry was in office what would be worse.

Our lives as American people; with that said, enough of this Bush vs. Kerry shit that seems to come up about every 2 weeks. Kerry lost, deal with it. If you hate Bush so much go volunteer for the Democratic party to help them campain during the next elections (I highly doubt any of you will since a lot of you didn't even seem to vote b/c you were "too busy" that day). If Kerry were in office, or anyone else for that matter, we would still be at war and gas prices would still be on the rise.

You're right, because we don't have a couple million huge 8 mpg SUV's over here driving around carrying nothing more than 3 bags of groceries or 2 children and a soccer ball.

shut up, you don't know what the fuck your talking about.

the price of gas could spike no matter who is president.

supply and demand. you want a high HP car? get ready to spend more money on gas, cause your buying premium and burning more of it. but the worlds supply will not last forever. the US pays some of the lowest prices for gas in the world.

now to everyone: quit complaining and get a better job if you can't pay for gas. or cut back on other things like expensive ass food from lunds, whole foods, and byerly's. go shop at ALDI or some shit.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

I agree the oil price would be the same reguard less. Instead of complaining, I just look at the fact that we are paying less for gas than many other countries.

Umm, excuse me? Don't talk to another member that way unless you REALLY want another 2 week ban!

hahaha.......
damn i feel happy that i just got an economy beater.....
Say good bye to dsm premiums until that price goes down.

DSM - 10 bux = one block.
Economy - 10 bux = 1 week......possibly 2 weeks.

j/k j/k..

but i am pretty happy i just got an economy car that will give me more mileage for cheaper gas =)

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

It's a good think i only drive 1/2 mile to work. Most of my friends are 10 minutes away. I've cut down to only about 3 trips a week over that way. Nobody answered my question, What's the median price right now for a gallon of 87 octane in the cities? It's officially 2.29 here for 87. I saw diesel at a station tonight up to 2.48.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

I've seen $2.19-2.25 around here... but thats northern twin cities.

Onefast99gsx 06-25-2005 01:23 AM

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

We're always around 14-17 cents more in WI so i'm gonna assume that we'll be 2.40's next week and 2.50's+ by the 4th for 87oct.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

I just grin and bear it. I feel like I’m showing off filling up with 92 octane, I have modified some of my habits, basically drive less, and I try shopping for gas http://www.twincitiesgasprices.com/

I bought my car for a reason, a few extra bucks every tank isn't going to stop me from enjoying it. Prices were at $2.09 for 87 earlier today, but they've all seemed to climb to $2.16-2.25. My car enjoys a strict diet of BP 92 so I pay what I gotta pay.

Eh just get a motorcycle, thats what I did. I can't complain with my DSM because it spends more time on stands than on the road. its 2.09 here in grand forks, ND but thats with the damn ethonal crap.

It's all good though, remember, bush is at war to get the oil reserves, so give it a few more months and we will be paying $0.10 a gallon for 93 when we take all the oil like everyone "knew" bush was doing. ;)

I think the gas prices stink, but at least we have 2.0/2.4 liters. Because if we all had V8s with the same ¼ mile times as our four cylinders, we would get even worse mileage.

'Vettes and F-Bodies can get over 30 mpg on the highway with their double OD 6-speed MT trannies.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

Yeah my 50trim'd 99GSX actually gets better mileage than my daily which is a Grand AM. Of course if i'm not hot rodding at all in the Eclipse.

Truthfully, i should bitch about everyone but i look at the long haul, not just gas i consume, price of goods, food, heating in the winter, economy in general. One business hurting can affect many businesses.

...and it's really hard to compare us to other countries by saying that we could be paying $5 a gallon like they are. They might be paying way cheaper on something else. Take MN and WI for example. You have no tax on clothing, gas tax is about 17 cents cheaper. However, our cost of living is by far cheaper. My $475/mo. rent payment is better than the $890/mo apartment when i lived there. A 100k gets you a dam nice house here whearas it don't go far over there. It sucks because i want to buy a house next spring and the fed keeps raising interest rates because of all this.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

when I left Japan, the Japanese gas stations were around $2 per liter. So I'm not complaining about $2 per gallon. I tend to just adjust and get used to it, rather then bitch about it.

Ethanol should be banned. Cloggs fuel injectors. My dads old bravada was a 2001 with 140,xxx miles on it. Ran unleaded or super unleaded its entire life except for 1 week he tried ehanol. Threw a cel, caused major sluggishness and ended up ruining his fp. Blames it all on Ethanol :D

The new 400 hp LS2 6.0l gets 18 city 28 highway (per GM web site). That new Corvette kicks ass but I’m talking other V8s that we could afford as a straight trade in cost +/- a few grand.

Low sulfur fuels clog fuel injectors such as Holiday Blue Planet. What do you mean your dad tried ethanol for 1 week? All gasoline we purchase in MN contains 10% (except certain kinds specified for boats, classics, etc.), the highest concentration you can buy is 85% in E85, but that is only for certain FFV vehicles.

do you guys understand that rising oil prices stabilize the american dollar? that higher barrel costs are essentially a world tax that floats our war effort? the key thing to keep in mind is that all oil is traded/purchased in US bonds. there is not a soul in the UAE or other oil markets that wants to see the strength of the dollar diminish by any margin, or their bonds/wealth drops with it.

actually, the scientific world is beginning to disagree with you there, as it is the growing belief that our "fossil fuel" is not only born of fossils, but an inner mechanism of the earth that produces crude oil without the need for a bunch of dead dinosaurs.

Re: Wow! Oil hits $60/barrel today

Another record today. $60.95/barrel. Just read this off of cnn.com. I watched a 6 minute video too. Basically expect gas to rise until consumers start to change their daily habits and usages. 3 dollars is coming real soon, $5/ gallon isn't far fetched according to the big BP person on the video.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Gasoline prices, reversing a two-month slide, are again approaching records and at least one expert thinks they could hit $3 a gallon soon in the United States.

"We'll see it within a year," T. Boone Pickens, head of the billion-dollar hedge fund BP Capital Management, said on CNN's "In The Money" over the weekend.

Pickens noted the discrepancy between $2 a gallon gas in the US and $5 a gallon gas in Europe. "The energy situation is global," he said. "I know there are taxes involved in the pricing...but eventually it's going to have to move up."

I dont know about you guys but my DSM gets 26 MPG city and about 28-30 highway... Thats way better than my winter beater and I only put 89 octane in the audi which gets about 20-22mpg.

I was in canada last week and gas up there was $1 per liter, thats over 3 dollars per gallon.

Stop bitching and take it. A bottle of water is still more than a GALLON of gas, think about it.
