Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Fucking awesome!!!!

Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
That rocks! There is another one like that out too of the same car. I'll see if I can find it.
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
sweet!!! how'd he make it rwd only?
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Very cool. Did he remount the engine and go with a RWD tranny?

That silly bastard. LOL That's awesome.
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
he probably broke the trany and it works only in RWD so he is just driving it around that way until it completely breaks.. i'm sure thats whats up..
OR, he removed front axles. sealed the holes so it doesn't leak oil out, and has the welded VC in .. ;p -E |
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
lol nice work on the RWD. Just what I like to see. Good vid.

Isn't most of that video from a year ago? |
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
The video is from about a week ago, and yes he is running a spool from TRE and only parts of the front axles... We definately expected something to break, but the four bolt and the axles held up nicely. The insane part is that a ~ 300 whp rear wheel drive DSM gets squirrly in third without even dumping the clutch ;)
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Did someone else release a video almost exactly like that one then a while ago?
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
yes, but the burnout was way more dramatic, and it was a real RWD conversion, I believe (i.e. chevy tranny, rotated motor, etc.) I thought the same thing, some narrow, random, paved road in the middle of a field w/ a rwd dsm doing burnouts. Then again, if I was going to do long, dramatic burnouts, that might be the place to try it out!
In the older video, the guy initially spins out off the road, just a bit. |
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
So who makes adapters and shit for the RWD swap that turns the engine and matches it with a diff tranny? I am sure Buschur does, but does anyone else? Or do most just get the mesurments and have something made up...?
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Is that the Kyle that works at QPR?, or use to? That was pretty damn cool.
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Yup, that's him. You can't mistake the FMIC by any means. I love it. LOL
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Buschur Does, don't know who else. I think I'd miss AWD too much...
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Who wants to attempt a FWD to RWD conversion... cuz that's what I need :)
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
If I cant find a bell housing in the next week I think I'm going to try it. Probably a little harder than an AWD swap just because of turning the motor sideways. Should be interesting to see how it works. Talk about a lot of fabrication!
|
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
a little harder than an awd swap?
Try an adapter plate is needed unless you do enough research to find out which mitsubishi transmissions accept the narrow block pattern (most 4g63 and 4g64's are 'narrow block') Plus the entire rear end suspension would have to be done to do it right. Plus not to mention the tunneling that might be required, the engine bay work, the firewall modifications...etc. I knew kyle was working on this a few months back, nice to see it up and running, I wish him the best of luck with it holding for him. A guy on 3si.org did something very similar to his 3kgt with pretty positive results. He did it for some R&D on our 'weak' transfercases. |

Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
I still am getting the feeling from what I'm reading that a few of you think that he did turn the engine and all that fun stuff. Its just a spool in the center diff (like v8killa said) with the front plung joint caped on the tranny. The fixed joint has the axle nut tight so the wheel bearings wont come apart. and bam RWD.

Makes me miss home evan more. Awesome vid!

Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
VERY interesting? I know the 3000 guys have found out it doenst help any and actually hurts 1/4 mile times!! whats the scenario on the dsm's?
chris |
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Simply disconnecting the front wheels will not help your 1/4 mile. If the intent is to reduce drivetrain loss, you picked the wrong set of wheels to disconnect from the drivetrain. And without doing a proper RWD setup, traction gains (assuming slicks) are nil. So unless you think its cool, there is simply no rational reason to do that to a functioning AWD car.

Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Throw some slicks on there, do a big burnout and break the tiny AWD rear axles on the launch.

By the way, who's really the kid? Last I checked I didn't live with my parents. Try living in an apartment without a garage and then ask why my car is still at QPR. |
Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Burnouts will always be cool. If someone questions that, they should trade their DSM in for a Prius.

As far as an appartment withought a garage, do you think someone is going to steal the car? Ask anyone who has been to my house. My garage is full of dsm shit. I work most of the time out of it unless I am doing an engine or something in the winter. No heat or cooling, just shelter from rain or snow. If you want to discuss more, PM me. |

Re: Local Rear Wheel Drive DSM...What?
Burnouts are a waste of money, both in tires and drivetrain components. I can't think of a single time in my life when I've done a burnout just for the sake of doing a burnout. Yeah, I've spun my tires on a hard launch and at the drag strip, but never just to see pretty smoke stink up my car. I too love my RWD stock thingy. Reid, lets hit Plypus one of these nights!

Seriously, did you all miss the big :D in my first post? But since you all wanted to fuel the fire, why stop now?
