newb turbo question.
Garrett T3/T4 57 trim. Im at work and am having a hard time finding some specs and comments on this turbo. I can pick it up ( nearly mint) with an Ex. waste gate and the flange off the mani for 600 obo. If i was content with 400 hp, will this turbo do it? I would like to not push the turbo to its limits. Any help would be useful. If you dont want to help guide me, please dont leave a comment.

Re: newb turbo question.
The 57 trim isn't a terrible turbo. It is roughly the same size as a 50 trim. It isn't quite as efficient as either the 50 trim or 60 trim though. Overall, not a bad turbo but there are better ones out there.

Re: newb turbo question.
how about for the price? What should I offer, i have no idea what its worth.
|
Re: newb turbo question.
Is there a link to it, or maybe post up his add and we will look at it. If its in decent shape thats not a bad asking price, but it sounds to me like there will ge a 'catch' here somwhere.
But yeah that turbo will make 400hp no problem with the right supporting mods. CRAIG |
Re: newb turbo question.
there is no games. Id be picking it up somewhere between here and ND. Hes on MNSC. 90 AWD he got some 60 trim.
This turbo is not ball bearing right? |
Re: newb turbo question.
No its not ball bearing.

Re: newb turbo question.
The 57-trim Garrett is a generic off the shelf setup straight from Garrett and not the latest tech, so they go for pretty cheap. It will work fine though. You can get them for $450 brand new online.

Re: newb turbo question.
With the external WG I told him to offer the guy 500 which wouldn't be to bad of a deal I guess. The 2G exhaust manifold is fucked so that isn't figured into this. He still needs mods to support this turbo as well.

Re: newb turbo question.
i told the guy id give him 300 if he cant get rid of it. Thats the end of that. Its not as big as Id like and it would prolly go on the DD anyways. You obviously need a fast street car. What fun is a track car when it only runs at the track ;)

::sigh:: 400whp is nothing to sneeze at if its a properly setup car.... ....sometimes I miss the old days of 420whp on pump being alot of power. |
Re: newb turbo question.
I still remember when a 20G was considered too big for most people. We're getting old Swanny.

Re: newb turbo question.
Yea I agree with you Swanny and Hughes.. sigh...
|
Re: newb turbo question.
Peter are you drunk? You actually agree with them. I am drunk, so is Allan, Nash, Jana, and JET. So fuck off.

Re: newb turbo question.
nah but I wish I was.. If I didnt have to go to work early I would have went out tonight. haha
Ive always pretty much agreed with Chris, and never really had an issue with Josh... Everyone is going super huge these days but never really maxing out their current setups, to me it just seems everything is the bigger the better these days. |

Anyway, yeah I remember when a 20g was a full race turbo and it just came out. 550's were crazy and a 16g was a serious upgrade. Only track dedicated cars had FMIC's! It is amazing how far it has come in 11 years! |
Re: newb turbo question.
tiny turbo. ANd yeah Jan shitfaced and well I'm going ok.
|
Re: newb turbo question.
I say its not big enough for 2 reasons.
I want the turbo im going to keep for a long time, so ill start at lower boost and work my way up that way. And 2, why waste money on one turbo after another when you could just buy one good one and youd have a good turbo the whole time and not lose your ass all of the time. |
Re: newb turbo question.
Do you have a FMIC? Even at low boost, the stock sidemount won't be able to handle the extra airflow without heatsoaking and causing knock.
|
Re: newb turbo question.
You need alot of other things before you can just slap on the turbo of choice... FMIC, Big Exh, Fuel managment, 660s or higher.
If the wastegate is a no name brand I wouldnt do it, but its a tial in good shape and the turbo is in good shape its up to you. |
Re: newb turbo question.
All of the reasons above are why I am deciding to rock the EVOIII 16G. I should be in the 400's for wheel horsepower with this new motor and race gas. Should be good for consistent deep 12's and if I can learn to drive sometime maybe 11's. Hell I posted a 12.7 with my lack of shifting ability and a pretty knock laden tune.(not your fault swanny, I dinked with it)

Re: newb turbo question.
400 whp from a Evo3 16g? Are you shooting some nitrous or something? I don't think that little 16g is going to go much over 350whp. Nash's 20g was pretty much maxed at 426 whp, and that is a lot bigger than an EVO3.

Re: newb turbo question.
im very aware of the supporting mods I would need. I dont seem to have any trouble coming accross parts i need for reasonable prices. FMIC is like 250 on ebay.

Well I got 320whp on a very shitty old motor that kept blowing its brand new dipstick out, had nasty boost creep, and only on 100 unleaded. So I think it is possible, but I know that there is always the chance that it won't get there, but I will be more than happy with 375ish. |
Re: newb turbo question.
So answer his question then, its going to be on the 'bottle' right?

Re: newb turbo question.
Hey I gave you all the answers you need via PM. If you are fine with the answers you got then I will close your thread.
I will never be guilty of as much post whoring as you even if I charged as much as Allan does for a lap dance at a gay bar. CRAIG |

Are you going to buy that turbo then? If you have decided to buy or even if you didn't post the link and you might get some more feedback.
