Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
HAHA Alan I strictly remember handing you money and you handing me a turbo
|
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
You guys should see the amount of smoke this thing is producing. Joe took me for a spin on Silver Lake Rd and traffic had to slow down and wait for the smoke to clear before they could see. LOL. The lil del-slow is actually kinda peppy now. Cant wait to see it with a good turbo and different waste gate.

Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
Is there something wrong with the oil return line on the car? That is the common reason for turbos blowing oil on Honda's.
|
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
What could be wrong with the return??? I think the turbo was bad when I put it on the car because, We started the car let it run for a couple minutes while I did the fuel pressure and just let it warm up. Drove it down my buddies driveway got about 50 ft out of the garage reved it a little it was smoking. gave it a little rev at the bottom of the driveway and it was smoking even worse. Oil out the exhaust pipe. some in the charge pipe but not a whole lot. Ibought the oil feed and return lines from a buddy that ran them on his crx he blew one turbo because he put 8 qts in on accident. I didn't add the oil to lauras car someone else did the put 4.5 quarts in it should take 3.7 and then like 3.8 with oil lines, but I told him to add a little more oil so. The was a couple of variable to why it was junk. It sat for a year shaft might have rusted a little. There is a lot more shaft play now then when I put it on. It just sucks ass.
Alan when you worked at QPR is when I bought it. |
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
Shane, I was actually thinking about that as well. I cannot remember how Joe has it laid out. But, there needs to be a path with very little restriction in it. Joe, how is it setup again? Are there any major bends or angles where the oil would come into restriction?
|
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
Kind of but not really, The line is a little bit long but it goes down and then comes back up to the oil pan. im pretty sure thats how it was on my buddies car. That wouldn't blow the turbo in a matter of minutes at idle would it? If it happend a 100 miles down the road I would expect that as the reason.

Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
The lowest point of the return line should be where it enters the pan, its gravity fed. You do not want the oil return line to dip down and come back up to the pan. Also the return line must enter the oil pan at a point higher than the level of oil in the pan, meaning you should be able to disconnect your oil drain line and have no significant amount of oil drain out of the pan or line. How big is your drain line? An oil drain line has to be at least -8 line or bigger I would think.
I have seen a few junkyard turbo setups with oil drain lines improperly routed and enter the pan at level below the oil. All of these blew large amounts of smoke and ruined the turbo. Jim |
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
Yeah, Jim is totally correct. If you had a low spot in the line that probably caused the early death of the turbo.
|
Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
Well I am shortening the line, But would that cause a certin death of a turbo in less then 5 minutes? I do agree the line was to long. I shouldn't have listened to those who told me there is enough pressure to push the oil through the line. Yes the return in the pan is as high as it can go no oil will leak out if i disconnect the line. Thanks for the info The turbo im buying in about an hour should not blow do to the new precautions.

Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
The drain is a gravity feed, you don't want the oil pressure to push it through, that means there is extra oil pressure in the turbo itself then. You don't want that. That puts extra stress on the turbo seals.

Re: GirlFriends Turbo Blew
yeah Went over that and got that figured out and taken care of. My mistake listening to someone that told me that.
