Taxes
Anyone else feel they got screwed? I paid in 3000 in taxes last year to federal not to mention state now they want me to pay in 500 more bastards.
|
Re: Taxes
You're not getting screwed (unless you're taxes were done wrong). Think of it as an interest free loan from the government, payable in one lump sum on, or before 4-15. It's alot better than letting the government borrow you're money interest free for a year, and then give you a check durring tax time. That's the way I look at it anyway. The last couple of years, the net amount that I had to pay in was around $60. Some people like to get a big refund check, but I would rather use that money throughout the year to either save it, or pay down my debts faster. It's better than letting the government use it for free for a year.

Re: Taxes
How many are you claiming on your w2's? If you're having to pay that much, you're claiming too many. Claim zero exeptions. You'll get money back probably.

Re: Taxes
We always get money back..... but we preffer that, not into suprises.....

Re: Taxes
Jet- you must have one helluva job to have paid that much in taxes unless it's a business. Wow! I don't know what i paid in but i don't think it was near that much.

Re: Taxes
i had to pay in 300 last year.
hopefully I do not have to pay in this year. I'd like a little chunk back. |
Re: Taxes
I had to pay last year like $400, this year because i moved i received $400 to which $200 of it went to HR block. but i wasnt about to do the work of doing my own taxes, fuck that, then have to wait 3 weeks to get it back, I want my money now. so i did. lol

who are you claiming as dependents? your dsms?

Re: Taxes
Craig and Andy ;)
No, a house counts as about 2 dependants if you are single and have a big mortgage. |

I paid over $5K in Federal tax, and over $2K in state taxes, but I also made over 10K more this year. Thankfully I do have my house, but is there anything else I can look at deducting? I wish I would have kept up with that kind of crap after college :( . I always deduct the max for clothing contributions ($500 I think). Anything else I am missing that I might be able to look into? |
Re: Taxes
I get to claim the house this year, so I should be looking at around 2800 plus state. My girlfriend gets to claim our daughter and since she made next to nothing she also gets a credit for low income with child. And it is all going to paying the wonderful credit card debts. Damn QPR...(not in a bad way, I just couldn't resist Alan's boyish charm last summer)

Re: Taxes
Just finally did the math, I paid 5927 dollars in taxes last year. I need a house, I'll be dont bitching soon.

Re: Taxes

Re: Taxes
What the hell are you people doing on your claims that some of you owe so much? I am receiving about 1500-1600 back with absolutely no deductions.

Re: Taxes
This is jana...
So what are you guys claiming in order to get that much back (0, 1, 2, etc)? I've never in my life gotten over $1K back and I don't think I make that much more than most of you.... but maybe I do :( |
Re: Taxes
I always claim 0.
|
Re: Taxes
I claim 1. I did have an extra $600 taken out though, W-4 mixup in the office.
|
Re: Taxes
Can we put this in perspective. I believe I claimed 0 dont remember I made 27676 dollars had 6000 taken out between state and federal and i'm paying in 478 to federal and im getting 10 dollars from state. My sister made about 10,000 more then me only paid in 600 dollars more over the year and her return is 150. Thats why I feel im getting dicked.

If you made $27,700 and paid in $6k for just federal and state taxes, you should get a ton back. Do your parents claim you as a dependant? |
Re: Taxes
Well, most of the year I claimed 2. I made just under 40K with my old job last year. I think even with claiming two I still paid in around 5700. I get to claim a mortgage and a slew of other deductions, which according to my tax guy will get me back around 27-28ish.
My girlfriend worked for about 6 months and made around 5K. Just claiming herself plus the standard deduction gets her almost all of her money back. Plus she will get to claim our daughter as she will get more money back by doing so compared to if I were to claim her. And oddly enough I claimed 0 through the year in 02, didn't have a mortgage to claim and got the same back as I will this year. I thought I was going to get screwed this year by claiming two all year, but hear comes the mortgage to save the day. |
Re: Taxes
Ok, then I'm not feeling as bad. I claim 2 all year round since I have the house to claim. This way Uncle Sam isn't keeping my money.
I'm gonna prepare my taxes tonight, so I'll let you guys know how I fare out. Hopefully I get a small return, or at least not owe too much. :D |
