Damn, that thing sounds like a V8. Is that a 383 stroker in there now? You will be in the 9s before the tracks even open up here.

:p I killed a bank so it would be a fair run. :p

What does the rest of the slip look like Mike? With that 60' if you had a near perfect run the rest of the way down the track I would say your almost maxed out with that turbo. What was your 1/8 mile speed?

If DSM's could pull 60's like that at Rock Falls there would be a few more DSM's in the 10s from Minnesota.

I have the run on the "Timeslips" page. ;)

I would have went faster on my last run, but like a dumbass, I missed my 3rd gear shift. But looking at the log, it was definately a better tune than this run. :o

Gratz on the run, Mike!

He definately isn't maxed out on that turbo yet. I ran a 123 on the 50 trim at 26 psi, so he has a long ways to go yet. You should be able to get in the 130's no problem.

Re: Like fine wine,.....

Mike, how agressively are you tuning the car? Seems to me like you are missing roughly 70 more HP or more somewhere in your tuning. I would think with that boost you would be trapping around 130. And with that killer 60', that would put you in the 10s for sure.

Just curious if you are just slowly bumping everything up each time you go.

Making adjustments after reviewing each run on DSMLink. No radical adjustments, a little here, a little there. I had to re-adjust my fuel tuning since I fixed those boost leaks (after re-checking the car again today, I found a new one  ). There were off pretty good as I had tuned it pretty well before I had a chance to leak check it last week.

There are no more boost leaks NOW. The system held 40 psi for 5 minutes with no leaks to be found. :D Needless to say that was a long and nervous 5 minutes. :p

You definately have a bottle neck some where. Too bad you have a 2g, I would send you my 3" O2 eliminator with atmospheric dump. The angle of the recirculation into that 02 eliminator is not good. It comes in at way too steep of an angle. That is the only thing I could see in your system being a problem. The Greddy FMIC isn't huge, but should be good for more than ~460 whp.

You are still putting down some good numbers, I am not dissing your setup. I am just trying to help get even more out of it.

Re: Like fine wine,.....

I'm thinking some of it's from the turbo. It's basically a GT30 .56 trim 55 lb/min in a Mitsu style exhaust housing (copy of the L2R). I'm starting to think the exhaust housing is choking it down.

I'm still working the on tune also. My fuel logs showed a change since I got those boost leaks fixed. It's close, but I think I can get it better.

Re: Like fine wine,.....

He is in a full weight 2G also, so you have to consider that he is probably something like 400lbs more than what you 1G guys are used to, thats a few mph right there. Also, maybe that turbo isn't quit cracked up to be what we would expect, what is the exhaust housing on it like? A 55lb/min comp wheel should perform a bit better than a 50-trim, but it seems to be performing about the same. 28psi on a 2.4l motor should just about max out the flow capabilites of that turbo, but it still seems a little bit down on power. With a 122mph trap and the wieght of the car, I would guess the car is putting down somewhere around 460fwhp, but I would have expected that turbo to be able to push a bit over 500fwhp at 28psi on a 2.4l.

JET 02-20-2005 01:53 PM

Re: Like fine wine,.....

I was thinking he was down at least 50 whp too. This is the only thing I could see as a possible bottleneck in the system (besides possibly the turbo).

The air from the WG is coming it at a really nasty angle and is probably really hampering exhaust flow.

Re: Like fine wine,.....

What material does Alien use? It looks like the flange is different than the runners. What thickness is it? The #1 runner turns very quickly after it comes out of the head. I don't even think it is straight in the beginning. I like the polished one a little better where the runners come together.

Archer used to offer a warranty on their tubular mani's too. They may offer to reweld anything that cracks, but that is a PITA. Do a lot of research before you decide.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-21-2005 01:40 PM

Re: Like fine wine,.....

If they aren't around in 6 months, then a lifetime warrenty doesn't mean much.

1/2 inch carbon steel flanges, 304 stainless tubing. 321 flanges and tubing are available, but the price goes up. If I remember correctly (and I may be wrong on this) they said it was 8-gauge stainless tubing. I have some more pics below that show the thickness. I also have a pic of how the runners exit the head flange as Jet has a concern about the runner turning too quickly.

Like Shane said, if they go under, the warranty is going with them. I've never really had any reservations about them or my DNP cracking anyway, if it cracks I get it fixed. Wether it's warranty or I pay somebody some $$ to fix it. It's one of the "risk" I'm willing to take to get performance. Just like anything we do to our cars to make them faster, it's a risk we are all willing to take. Do I want it to crack? NO. If it does, I'll get it fixed.

My DNP manifold cracked, I had Raptor fix it and moved on.

JET 02-21-2005 02:35 PM

Re: Like fine wine,.....

Yeah, #1 looks a lot better from that angle. I would upgrade to the 321. The other one will definately crack. I do like the WG coming out of the collector, that is where it should be at. It looks like one of the better designs that I have seen.

1ViciousGSX 02-22-2005 11:30 PM

Re: Like fine wine,.....

AlienAuto said they won't warranty the 321 from cracking because they can't get it in the 8-gauge tubing like the 304 they are using.

I am still looking at other options for manifolds also. Scott from VPE called me about a month ago to see if I would try a proto-type tubular manifold they are looking to build. I also talked to Raptor about putting one together for me, but................ HINT, HINT.

1ViciousGSX 02-24-2005 04:57 PM

Re: Like fine wine,.....

Justin @ AlienAuto told me that each runner flows 245cfm.

I have no idea. I'm about ready to line them up, start throwing darts at the them and see which manifold it it sticks to. :p

I'm sure there may a slight delay in spool-up, but I wouldn't expect it to be any worse than the .82 a/r exhaust housing it will be feeding.

VPE is working a manifold design right now that will be one tube diameter smaller than what AlienAuto is using. I'm waiting to see it.
