i think a music section would be cool
everyone listens to different music on this site, so i figure if we had a space where we could share what we liked we could bond/make fun of each other even more!
you could like post a band/artist you like, describe them in your own words, and then list a few bands that sound similar or complement them. sound cool? |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
We already have that section, its called the parking lot.
CRAIG |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
i want a dedicated section dammit, we already have 13 thousand other sections, why not add another?
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Ditto Notnormalllll
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
I say we start getting rid of the 13,000 sections and condense it more.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Me too.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
LOL, you bitches. I will think about it. Maybe get a thread going and if it goes well I can open up another section for it. Who knows.

Re: i think a music section would be cool
With you, that there are too many sections.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
..Yeah well I don't think there are ENOUGH sections. We need at least 15 more pointless ones that no one posts in.
Makes the place feel more homey. |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
fine i'll turn this thread into what i'm talking about.
Band: The Mars Volta album: De-Loused in the Comatorium review: alright back in the day there was this band called "At The Drive-In" and they were generally regarded as being ahead of their time. they carved a niche for themself, got quite popular with the indie crowd, and then broke up at the height of their career. the guitar player and singer, cedric and omar, formed a new band with some other dudes called the mars volta. they play crazy acid rock, and can't really be compared with any other modern bands that aren't just copying them. if you give the album a listen, do NOT listen to one song. listen to the whole thing from beginning to end because it is sort of a concept album and it flows nicely. :) similar bands: At The Drive-In, Sparta, Pink Floyd http://www.themarsvolta.com/frances.html << website file:///C:%5CDOCUME~1%5Cgrub%5CLOCAL...emp%5CWMP5.htm ^^ video, good song to get a taste of them |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Band: Peter, Paul, and Marry
They are the best, enuf said. |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Band: The Killers
Album: Hot Fuss Comments: I wasn't too much of a fan at first, but as you get listening to the album as a whole, it grows on you. Maybe its the unique sound some may say (joe) sounds like 80's dance music, but some like myself would say it's a combination of indie/light rock/relaxing "other" music. I think they're a mix of: Modest Mouse, Oleander somewhat, White Stripes, and other bands like so. |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Band: Taking Back Sunday
Albums: Where You Want To Be, Tell All Your Friends Review: I first heard of them quite awhile ago, when tell all your friends came out. But I didnt listen to them too much. Until they came to the Target Center with Blink 182! The best song is cute without the E, the acoustic version is even better. Also if you can find the long version of Great romances of the 20th century, the beginning is a great quote about girls and such... Every band member writes the songs, even the drummer. Will satisfy all your emo/punk needs! Similar bands: My Chemical Romance, older Thursday and Saves the day, Anberlin. |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
I also would like to add that Anberlin will be the a band that goes quite far. If you havent heard of them, I would seriously consider listening to them. They are very good!

Re: i think a music section would be cool
Another one:
Band: Straylight Run Self-titled album: Straylight Run Review: Very relaxing light-er rock/emo/chill music. Two of the members were part of Taking Back Sunday (band mentioned above) at one point, but they split up and made this band, which imho is 10x better lyrically and musically. It's not just uber emo/pop emo like TBS. I really dig this band because the songs are well thought out and they have a pianist which makes everything that much cooler. For a peek at the music. You can goto this link and watch the live video which is under the "Videos" section and is the "excluisve Launch" video. http://search.launch.yahoo.com/launc...straylight+run Similar Bands: kinda Taking Back Sunday, Dropping Daylight/Sue Generis, Something Corporate, BUT I think personally, it's like Coldplay met Jason Mraz's lyrics and Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessionals emo side. :) |

band: The Blood Brothers
most recent record: Crimes review: This is probably the most intense band i've come across in a long time. the vocals, the guitars, even the time signatures of the songs are pretty extreme; and i gotta admit that from the outset its easy to dub these guys unlistenable. but then something strange happens and days later you begin humming the songs and slapping the beats out on the steering wheel. the older stuff is pretty hardcore with a little "mathy" influence. i.e. on/off, hard and fast. with crimes out now though you can totally tell they've added some melody, and it sounds great. similar artists: The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Bled, Emery video: if you watch/listen to this and just can't get into it, you will never like this band. http://homepage.mac.com/laurentbriet.../ambulance.mp4 |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
And who woulda thunk? ;)
Artist: Jason Mraz Albums released: Waiting For My Rocket to Come ANDTonight, Not Again: Live in the Eagles Ballroom Unreleased/live-er albums: "Sold Out", "Live CD", and "The E Minor EP in F", the Living Room Concert (LRC) Going to be released: "Mr. A-Z" Review: Okay, as my NON-biased review, I'd say this man is definitely one of the best/unique vocalists I've heard to this day. :) He's a singer/songwriter that isn't afraid to speak his mind personally and explicitly. Pure hearted and full of energy, this musician's mind is full of randomness. Unlike many other artists, he's not just one "genre" or style of music. Generally, he could be considered folk/rock/pop but he's got more than that. There's a lot of heart and soul, free flowing misc. raps, covers of rap/pop-ular random songs, Scatting, operatic moments, freestyle flowing, and overall witty lyrics put into place to make this man who he is and what he performs. I guess either you appreciate his talent, or you think he's a fake/wannabe but really inside you know he's got a gift of a voice. Sounds like: Jason Mraz Other similar artists: John Mayer(just another acoustic guitarist), Jamie Callum(another artist accompanied with an instrument), Jack Johnson, Coldplay, Gavin DeGraw, Damien Rice Last comment: Pretty much if you didn't really feel his released songs - The Remedy & You and I Both was your type of music, it's ok. The live stuff is what shows what he really does anyhow. The new album will sound like what his new vibe is. I'd say it's a mix of Coldplay, his Live Tonight, Not Again album, and everything put together. He's got funk in it, he's got jazz, he's got pop, soul and hiphop accents all intertwined into it. Here's an example of how the freestyle flowing usually goes and the cool lyrics he randomly applies. http://www.jasonmraz.com/video/MRAZ-GypsyMC-HIGH.mov ;) -RIGHT CLICK, SAVE AS More reviews to come by me :D |
band: Coheed & Cambria
albums: The Second Stage Turbine Blade; In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3. review: these guys formed in woodstock NY in 1995, played under a few different names, settled on the current name, and released their first album in 02. half way through the tour they went home because it was sucking for them. they put together another album, released it in october of 2003 (when i bought it) and then they got huge. headlining tours, mtv videos, a freaking comic book! these guys are most definetly a progressive rock band, a type of music not many new bands choose to play. they are all very accomplished musicians and you can tell that immediately. the lyrics for many of their songs (some off the first album, all of the songs on the 2nd one) tie into a big story, so i guess its a concept album. the story is one of family and death with lots of sci-fi twists, so many that the lead guitar/singer Claudio Sanchez had a comic book produced in limited quantities that he wrote himself (i have one). its part one of six, and it further explains the story that will eventually be told. a lot of people say they are a modern interpretation of RUSH, and i can see why. the high voices, the crazy lyrics and the unusual chord arrangements do harken back to the days of Geddy Lee. most definetly check these guys out if you like prog rock and/or sci-fi! www.coheedandcambria.com |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
There is a new station on the radio at 89.3 for anyone that doesn't like hearing the same 10 songs over and over and has a varied musical taste. Hopefully they don't play much emo or Mraz.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
I miss rev 105. :( I'll have to give the new station a listen.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
hey mr. 89.3 why dont you put a reveiw of a band you like? and not just shoot down our styles?
ay? |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
shane is oldschool as hell, he listens to the ravonettes and skinny puppy and new vanilla ice. though some lilttle azn birdy told me he rocks coheed when no one is looking ;)
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Nah, shane always talks about how much he can't wait to meet Ashley Simpson and Dashboard Confessional next time they come to town. Shane missed out on the Milli Vanilli so he's got Ashley as a substitute. ;)
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
damn it, besides dashboard concerts being a bunch of whiny 12 year olds, they are quite good i think...
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
yes, Chris Carabba does indeed have talent. his old FSF songs are quite awesome as well
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Dashboard and Ashley Simpson are in town together doing covers of Vanilla Ice songs?!?!
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Is anyone here a Pixies fan? That's the first band that I really followed, and bought thier albums. So I guess it's mostly because of them that I even got into music. I still listen to the stuff. Frank Black too. There's something about it, it just has a timeless sound to it.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
"Where is My Mind" is a great song to get drunk around. :) (The Pixies)
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Yea, I like them too, even though Cher does also.
|
Re: i think a music section would be cool
Anybody remember 93.7 when it was the Edge? I guess my music tastes are stuck in back in the mid 90's and what was "Alternative" back then. I guess I'm getting old. :( Not that I don't like some of the new stuff that comes out but my music collection isn't complete without alot of the one hit wonder Alternative stuff from that era. Recently I put together a song list of some of these tunes. If you used to like that stuff:

Re: i think a music section would be cool
Keeping this thread alive for all you music haters.
Artist: Marc Broussard Album: Carencro Review: Who's got soul? He's got soul. They say don't judge a book by its cover and Marc definitely is one of those not to judge. When you first listen (without knowing how his physical characteristics look like) to the music produced by Broussard, you would probably assume he is african-american/black. He's got that rich southern voice found in church gospel singing and he combines that with his guitar and unique style to make what is his style of music. Gospel soul, a guitar, and music combine with lyrics about his life experiences to make this man a newcomer among others who are going to change the current "scene" in today's musical genres. Recommended songs to listen to first: Let Me Leave, Where You Are, Gavin's Song They can be found on www.marcbroussard.com as live versions. Sounds like: a soulful Gospel dude with a voice that he knows how to use very very well. |
Re: i think a music section would be cool
^^^ Marc Broussard selling at Target for $8.99
and Straylight Run selling for $9.99. What steals! Support the artists you like more than average!!! :p |
