Hittin the slopes
Ahhh the fresh snow finally hits the ground and STAYS!!! Who all is an avid snowboarder or skiier? If anyone ever wants to hit the slopes on the weekend or some random day give me a jingle... this white stuff is callin my name like theres no tomorow whoop WHOOP!!!
- josh |
Heck Yeah. I've waited for the snow for so long. I was suppose to go to Afton last weekend, but it rained on Friday and they couldnt make snow. I'm gonna finish waxing my board this week and hopefully I'll be able to go to Afton next Saturday (took work off). How long have you been snowboarding/skiing? I might be too tempted and go on Tuesday after school...haha.
aftons open?? sweet!!! ive been boarding for abour 6 years?? but if you saw me ride you would think its been for less. mmm waxed the board eh? i got a whole new (well, new to me) set up. got the burton freestyle bindings (the clickers broke first season, need to call bout gettin those replaced), nitro fabian board which also needs to be waxed and some new dc boots.. the best things ive ever set foot in!. what do you ride? ohhh your lucky you get to go on tuesday, i can only ride on weekends and thatll prolly be packed as the beach on a sunny day.
I rock the Ride Exile, Burton Synchro Bindings (Clickers are lame). I'm down for some thrashing if anyone is interested.
Man I haven't snowboarded since I was 18. Once I joined the military, I haven't been anywhere where I could do it. I still got my board though. It's a yellow Avalanche with some Burton ratchet style bindings, and Van boots, Blackdot jacket with the nice lil elastic things for your wrist so snow doesn't get up in there. If I'm still in MN for the first winter, I'm going to have to see if I can still even make it down the hill. It's been 4 years!!
Everyone here has the Burton Bindings, huh? I have a 5150 board, but I'm not really sure on the name. My brother bought it and didnt like it as much so he gave it to me. I'm going to get the Flow bindings and I was thinking about the M3 Talon boots. Although I might have to try those DC boots first, since they sound pretty nice. I want to get a better board, but dont have the $$$, haha. Anyways...I've only been boarding for like 3 years (4th this year). I'm hoping on starting more on the jumps and stuff this year.
I have Lamar bindings on a Lamar board with Liquid boots. I used to have an '89 Burton Ride board. Still have it, but it's so old and junky... serious old skool.
As far as slopes are concerned... I'll be hitting up Buck in the middle of the night with an inner tube. ;) |
My board is still from '98, I should get a new one. But if I move to AZ, then I think I'll save the money because it's not gunna get much use in that area
I cant stand going up and down the same hill so I wont be hitting any slopes until afton is atleast 75% open. I got too spoiled going to CO and actually skiing on snow, in nice weather too. Everytime I go here its always like 5 degrees and windy like hell haha.
Ill go a few times but prolly only afton or maybe make a trip to lutsen. I ski BTW. |
Have you ever been to hyland??? holy buckets.... you spend more time on the lift then you do on the hill...if you can even call it that. i got a season pass there last year. the park was nice, though a lil icy and worn cuz of the crowds, but it was so close.
I've never been to hyland before. The only places I've been to are Trollhaugen and Afton Alps. This year I'll be going to Spirit Moutain, Afton Alps, Trollhaugen, Buck Hill and some other ones if I find people to go with me.
Which place in MN do you guys all go to? Which do you guys think is the best? |
I went to wildmountain afton alps and hyland last year. the best was probably in between wildmt and afton. I learned at trollhaugen so im biased, i like it there, not to many ppl just right amount of foliage, and a good park.
HAHA, Hyland was are place back in the day. We'd pay for maybe 3 passes, then every other time, we'd just walk right in. We'd keep our old passes on our jackets so people didn't really notice. But there was a certain time everyday, like maybe noon or sumthin, that they'd go out to the lifts and check lift passes. So we'd just take a break and go inside and eat for an hour, and then go right back out! Place was pretty small, but we had fun over in their jump park area.
It seems most of you like the terrain parks, but I'm surprised none of you have mentioned Welch Village. I've only been there, Afton and Buck Hill, but it's something different and not too far away when compared to Afton.
Quote:
YEAH BUDDY! the day was split in 1/2 @ 3:00, we'd put the lift ticket on our shell and take it off then and get to know the lift operator, remember? ;) |
HAHAHAHAH sneaky sneaky you two are. i saw ppl all the time gettin caught there for no lift tickets. they had some security guard go all round the place. crazy
Ive been to welch once a few years ago, thought it was really nice but I dont remember a whole lot about it, stayed overnight with school and was really fun.
Oh, hey Austin, you remember the bunny hills too. Gotta love those bad ass slopes!!
Green Circles are the best! haha.
That's the reason why I like Trollhaugen, they dont have too many people and they have enough hills to go down. Afton is just always crowded with people, especially on the days that I can go..haha. But they have even more hills to go down...plus its kinda getting expensive at Afton. Its like $32 this year for a full day lift pass...it used to be in the $20 area didnt it? |
i'm down the slopes of afton any time on the weekends night usually though
i'm ready to finally hit the slopes any time just give some advanced warning. corey |
ive been snowboarding for about 8 years. i went out a few weeks ago, at afton on their opening day. i havent made it out since but i work there so ill make it out again sometime.
As of right now. Afton has 10 runs and they're open from 9am-10pm. I just hope the weather stays just cold enough to keep the snow in a solid state. one night of rain would ruin it for days. It needs to SNOW again!!!!!!
yea it does need to snow. i made a park in my yard last year and im trying to make plans for it this year. anyone got rail plans i could use? i have a couple rails, ones pvc and the other a flat rail, but i need a taller one and one that doesnt depend on the snow to hold it up. the flat rail was fine cuz we just put some cement blocks underneathe it.
I wish I had a big enough back yard to do that stuff. Funny thing was that I was just thinking about how fun it would be to rail all the time. I have never tried it, but I'm going to this year. I'll start small and go big.
i think ill have to skip the terrain park this year. i sprained my ACL a few months ago and im still recovering. im sure ill get bored real quick if i cant use the park. ive been to afton so many time im sure i could do it with my eyes closed by now.
oooo your lucky. their park isnt to shabby at all there. i liked it when they opend up the three parks near the end of the season last year at afton. slow if u wants u can come and jib over here anytime you want.
I havent been out in a few, winter is my busy season.
Currently have a Lamar "Tahoe Jones" Signature board with Burton Custom freesyle bndings and Burton Viking boots. Used to rock a Joyride Titanic and before that it was a Morrow with Aluminum bindings. Might hit up Afton tomorrow AM, coworker said it was 15$ from 9am-2pm. |
Isnt it $15 all day for now, because they only have like 10 runs open? They might have changed it. This year its going to be $32 for a full day lift pass...I should've gotten a season pass.
DSMSTYLE ski trip come January??? Anybody?
im down for that
I hit up Afton today, first time out in like 3 years, miss it.
15 bux, went for like 4 hrs. Still only like 9 runs open, but what the hell. |
i just got back from Afton. The snow sucks really bad. There is only a couple inches and after that its nothing but ice. Even the bunny hill hurts really bad when you fall, which scares the new boarders. I dont think it was worth the $16 I paid. I'll wait until the REAL snow starts to fall...or atleast until they groom the runs. Oh well...I got the feel back.
i went to hyland when it first opened last year and it was horribly funny... slushy during the day, and if you went on the catwalk at night... you were destined to scratch up ur board from the ice and rocks... and then most likely biff it and eat the stones...
Ya, i think im gonna stick to the AM runs this year, I used to allways hit afton at night, neat under the lights and all, but the ice sux.
Kinda nice having the place pretty empty in the morning. Deff need some real snow, but beggers cant be choosers. I went to White Wolf afterwards and bought a set of Oakley Goggles as I lost my old ones. |
I need to try going in the morning. I heard it was the best time to go. At night does suck a little, especially if you dont have goggles like me. My eyes get all teary and I cant see crap, so I slow down..haha.
I'm up for the DSMstyle Ski trip! |
I will probly need to go once or twice before i hit up Squaw Valley and Heavenly in Lake Tahoe. Can't wait to go though, they almost always have DEEP powder. Gotta love mountain skiing...
I cant wait to go to Spirit Mountain, I heard that place is really good, because they're runs are way longer than Afton's.
hyland tomorow whoop WHOOP first time of the season
Cool...tell us how it goes! That one hour of flurry snow yesterday or the day before was got me excited for NOTHING!
hmmm same ol same ol hyland thats for sure. it was ok not the best... but for early season it was decent. they have some stuff set up in the park too.. two boxes a small SMALL rail, the mail box, a huge jump, a lil kicker, a rainbow rail, and a rainbow box. it was super crowded though. best thing of all is going with a hot snow chick.
