Mustang GT???
 

So there is this guy at my school who drives an '02 Mustang GT. If some of you guys remember, it was the guy who has all the SVT badgings over the GT badgings. But anywho...I'm just wondering how quick would one of those Mustangs be? Its an automatic also...it looks nice, but the kid is being cocky about his car. Its all stock, but a nice hood and front bumber. He was talking about how he'd be able to waste me...since I only have a 4 cylinder. I'm just wondering how quick those Mustangs are. I've raced a Mustang Bullitt at the track, but I dont know if the GT or the Bullitt is quicker. My car isnt all that quick either, but I think I'd give him a really good run. I'm just waiting to talk to him again sometime and see if he wants to race. I'm still going for the quickest car at school and there's only a GT and an early 80's Firebird keeping me from reaching the goal...haha. Oh yeah, if RedStal95 reads this...he should be of a lot of help since he's into the Mustang.

If he's a stock auto GT he probably runs low15's at best.

Mustangs are slow. Make sure before you beat him, you remind him that your car has 1/5 the total displacement of his car. ;)

1/5th??? if 1slowdsm has a 2.0 then that would mean the mustang would have a 10.0 liter. LOL

I'll just say I have a 4 banger with 1/2 his displacement. I just did some research and they're rated at a low 14 stock. He isnt a professional, so I think I can take him from a dead stop. But on the highway, my car isnt all that quick. The awd doesnt help with my 3rd gear downshifts. I've beated my friend with a '91 Camaro 5.0 V8...he was talking about wasting me also. These people at my school dont know much about cars...except that its a V8 5.0 liter compared to my 4 cylinder 2.0 liter. Oh yeah, my friend with a new Pontiac Grand Am or Prix V6 says he'll beat me too...since he has more horse than I do...haha. It pisses me off sometimes, but I dont mind. I'll just race them and see what happens.

umm, 02 stangs w/ autos can run low 14's stock. Not sure where you are getting 15 seconds from.

I'm a stang guy also, I would find it hard to believe if he could run faster than 14.5 with that auto.

Haha..I totally forgot about that, too. Hmm...I'm just curious. Would a '96 or '95 GT be quicker than a '02 GT? I work with a guy who's got a '96 or '95 GT and I've only sort of raced him. Didnt really got at it until he was like 5 cars away then I decided to go at it...only time I raced him was the only time I wasnt thinking!

Well I know a 96 gt is a pooch, I think those were the slowest of the modern Gt's. The 95 is still the 5.0 (last year) I bet both of these years have trouble gettin in to the 14's bone stock.

Maybe powerbraking the stock torqueconverter to death and slapping on some DRs

Do you know someone who has run a low 14 in their 02 GT? Because if you do thats cool. I'm just going by what I've seen at the tracks. My buddies Cobra (Not an 03) only runs 13.6s and its slightly modded and deffinetly not an auto .

Its 2.0 liters per all cylinders... not each cylinder, so therefore, total displacement is a little under half of a V8 4.6...

You said "overall displacement", not "individual cylinder displacement multiplied by number of cylinders". And each cylinder is not 5 liters or even 2 liters, that's the total displacement. I've never agreed with Tom til now.

Supposely the GT has a few less horses than a Bullitt and there was this Bullitt that ran 14.1 at the track the last time I was there. I dont know is that was one of his good runs or not. Then there was this yellow GT that ran 13.9 and I dont know if that one was stock either, I only talked to him for like 30 seconds.

I raced an 02' Auto GT Mustang and lost by about 6 inches, and I had Joe H (Rollin Joe), a sub box, and the sunroof open. This guy was a tool box. I run 15.0@93. My ex girlfriend had an 02 V6, and it ran high 15's, low 16's.

My uncle Fred in California has a black Bullitt. The thing is good for mid to low 13's with light modding (basic bolt on's).

well well well, lets talk about this i have beat every mustang but a cobra that is stock,
if this kid thinks that he is going to beat you he is wrong tell him to race about a block your all wheel drive will take him off the line and you will beat him easy.

i have seen 02 mustang gt (stock) auto's run from 15.4-14.8 at rock falls and 02 gt 5 speeds run 15.0-14.6

give it a try if he beats you put on some parts and then beat the shit out of him..

what skool you go to again? Whats your mods? that Mustang GT doesnt have a chance if you can get a good lanuch anyways if you race give me a pm i want to see it that way we can all laugh at him LOLZ

2.5" Dp(pressbent)&testpipe
2.25" custom piping to 2.5 exhaust
MBC (set at 14, spikes to 18)

I think thats it. Best 60' time was 1.9...had to slip the clutch, then slipped more than wanted, haha. There's kids at school who think horsepower tells all or engine size tells all and the ones who dont think that are the ones that I've beaten or the ones that know from experience. I'll talk to the guy when I get the chance...it should be before any snow starts falling and I'll make sure its not raining to make it fair.

Dude, rewire the fuel pump and turn the boost up to 17 psi! It should add around 20 hp and it takes about 45 min.

I'm not the best mechanic here, so I wouldnt know how to rewire the fuel pump. I read about it on vfaq and got all confused. I'll read it again and see if I'm up to it.
I was messing with my MBC and now I'm only boosting 12...haha, so I dont think I can beat him right now. I'm just trying to figure out why its spiking...

Make your line for the MBC as short as possible. Also, where are you hooking the MBC into? The BOV line is the prefered spot.

Yeah, I have it T-ed off of the BOV line. I have the MBC bolted onto the fan, so I have on short line and the one going to the BOV line is a little over a foot long....is that bad? I just finished reading on the fuel pump re-wiring...it doesnt seem hard at all. I'll go at it once I get all of the stuff...

It would really piss him off if he get's walked by a Escort...SOHC 1.9. Last time at slippery rock I ran a 14.5@95 @ 8psi, then me and carltalon hooked up his MBC, 17psi is crazy.

Alot of people would get pissed of if they got beat by an escort. Is it a red Escort? I think it might've been you that went there with Carl, a few of his VW buddies and I.

Well...I tried to race on of my work buddies. He is the one with the '94 GT. It was after work and I went his way and pulled over on a street that had no one most of the time. He pulled up next to me and I asked him if he wanted to race...we were going to go, until at the end of the road a car turned into the street. So I went a little and he went back into my lane. I was so hyped up too, I still want to race a GT!!!

Well...I recently just raced my work buddy(1994 Mustang GT 5.0). I got off work before him and went to McDonalds for some food and ran into him as he was just leaving work. So he caught up to me on White Bear, then we go on 36 and there is this car infront of me. I get infront of that car and wait for him to pull up and line next to me, but he keeps on going. So I get into 3rd and catch up speed, now he is about 1 1/2 car lenght infront of me and no one is getting the gain. Third gear ends and now I'm in fourth and next thing I know, I walked pass him or power walked. I get into fifth gear and we're doing about 125+ and the light on English is coming up and I see about 4 cars in my lane and none in the next. I didnt want to cut my buddy off, so I stomp of the brakes which didnt really stop as quick as I wanted. I planned to wait for my buddy to pass me up so I can switch lanes...all of a sudden the last car in the group switches and takes up the open lane. At that time, I knew I would be able to stop in time...but my buddy might not. He flies by me and swerves between the rail and the car, he had like 1.5' on each side of his car. Then we're going with traffic and I catch up, we talk alittle and go our own ways. The next time I see him at work and we're talking about it again, he was telling everyone that he missed the shift from D2 to D3 and over revved....he has an automatic. He claims to have been catching back up, but it took him a few seconds to fly by me as I was stomping on the brakes as hard as I could. I cant claim that I beat him unless he says I beat him and he wont say it...which sucks. I hate to sound cocky, so I'll just wait until he says it. Oh well..I dont think I did to bad, he had like a 10 MPH start on me...it was fun until that one point.

Okay...now that that's over. If anyone wants to tell their stories about racing or whatever...I'd want to hear about it. There arent many interesting topics I like to read, so I'll try this topic. I just like reading this kind of stuff...its interesting.

My brother has a '02 mustang GT convert auto. It's slow as hell. I took it to prom last year and was pissed b/c it doesnt haul ass like my 1G....and my 1G is slow as hell. Haha. I've also raced a '89 gt 5.0 manual that had headers/exhaust/cam with 4 people in my car and won. Boy was he pissed, a ricer with a fart cannon beat him.

I raced my friend's '89 GT 5.0 last year and beat him. I had 3 other people in my car (all guys) and he had 2 girls in his car. I bogged at the start and beat him. My other buddy still doesnt think I can beat him if he had a better launch...hehehe.
