hardcore whining.
Hardcore whinning. My car simply wont SHUT THE FUK UP. The only way to get my car to stop whining is if i push in the clutch and take it VERY easy and let it warm all the way up before i move it. But it comes and goes. I know it has something to do with the alternator belt. It didnt bug me so much until a mod on tuners said to someone else with the same prob " make sure its not the harmonic balancer making that sound". Now i do not know if it is that or the alternator or wtf. How can you tell?. What can i do to rid it? What would happen if it really was the balancer making that sound..? again, thanks a lot!

check your timing belt tension as well.. i had a LOT of tension on mine and it was making that sound..

its very tight heh, how can i losen it up while in the car?
pretty much you will need to re-do the timing belt job. or take it in to a shop that can do it right..

Did you install the drivebelts? If so, maybe you installed the pulley backwards. The fatter ridge of the pulley should point away from the engine. If it isn't, the pulley will make noise and eventually shred. If you want to check the belts, just spray WD40 or something on them and see if it gets rid of the squeak. Obviously this would be a temporary solution.
Alright, do not put WD-40 on your belts! That is a petroleum product and rubber does not like petroleum products! That is like spraying your brake rotors with WD-40 to see if they are squeaking.
Check the tension of you alternator belt, it is probably just loose. You just need a 12mm wrench to tighten it. Loosen the locking bolt and then tighten the belt up by turning the adjuster bolt on the front. Then tighten the locking bolt. |
OK, spray the belt with belt dressing or some type of lubricant to determine which is squealing. I thought WD40 was water based (???). BTW, Brake pads are made of a bit different material than a belt.
my T belt is too tight. And i am missing a balance shaft belt!!! lol wtf! Um... i also need to buy new tensioners... this is what we came up with. thanks for the info.

For squealing belts I got only two words for ya. Dialectric Grease, It's my cure-all for squealing belts. And the T-belts do tend to howl when cold when they are a little tight. Probably wouldn't do anything except annoy you during startup. |
they always squeel. Not just in start up.

his timing belt is fine... its not that tight, mine is a lot tighter than his and yet mine doesnt sqeak. i can almost gaurantee its the alternater seein you did strip the bolt out and dont have the tensioner bolt that holds pressure against the alternater! plus when it was sqealing before it was also the alternater belt, felt the belt and it was hot from it slipping and causing friction. you need to figure a way to bolt that down so it doesnt move.
if thats the case, ill throw a couple tack welds on it heh. Unless someone has the proper bolt for it. Time to get a hold of QPR again.. muhaha. However, There are more problems than just the squeek jake, beyond the belts and all that. you werent very careful with some shit.
It is through all gears, and it is off and on. When the clutch goes it, most of it goes away usually.. mostly all of it . it could be the alternator belt, but since its coming from the back side of the engine bay, i must think its the Tbelt. I dont know, several ppl have seen it and i was told to get tensioners, balance shaft belt, and loosen up the Tbelt a little bit. I dont htink ne one noticed the ghetto rig on the alternator tho.. ill look into that further..
i wasnt carefull? how do you figure... and it was your idea to reuse all the tensioners! i just did what you wanted me to, and that was get your car running. and the way you have that alternater ghetto rigged in there which i am glad i didnt take part in, tells me it has to be that! the belt is probably slipping on the harmonic balancer there for you would hear the sqeal towards the rear/bottom of the motor-
im trying to think of how i can fix it. The bolt hole is bigger than its supposed to be from when the bolt broke in and we retapped it.. hmm..
If you retapped it, why don't you use the right size bolt (the size you tapped it to)? Seems like an easy fix to me. I would not weld it on. How would you loosen the tension on the blet then?
the eclipse was making the noise and bam water pump goes so does all the belts..had to reaplace all of them
hmmm...
post whore... lol
he didnt retap it, what happened is he put the wrong thread pitch bolt in and it stipped out all the threads so he drilled it out and put a longer bolt in with a nut on the other end. but it doesnt get tight enough to hold it in one place, i tried to tighten it twice and i gave up cause its ghetto. |
getting a new alternator bracket from QPR tomorrow. problem should be solved.
