Okay since it sounds like there is a definate desire to prove who owns all as far as performance shops go, I say we set a date and time and define some specifics. The challenge is out there to all public accessable import shops, the cars have to be owner or employee cars and the winner should hold a trophy or for the year until the next one. I think the only limit on the car should be that it has a licence for the street. Sometime next summer so everyone could start the project they want to run if they havn't already (I am thinking of the 12 second 2JZ starion here)

So who's game?

SlowWhite 10-27-2004 01:39 PM

Anyone want to hire me for the day of this event. :bounce:

stikx 10-27-2004 01:49 PM

2JZ oooo yummy

Pushit2.0 10-27-2004 02:39 PM

Sounds good, but I dont think the 2jz will be running anytime soon.

niterydr 10-27-2004 02:44 PM

the 12 second 3s will be hopefully available for track duty by that time.

Yeah no shit, I need to work for a local shop for a week so I can compete.

This would be cool, I would defintely attend. You guys should run CF for the track to compete at.

I assume you mean to compete in drag racing only. There are other local shops that are more geared up for auto cross, but do they even matter?

Oh and Mike, I'm sure you and Swanny know already, but you actually need a running car to compete or is this competition going to be setup for some time in 2006? :razz2:

2006? shit I thought we were talking about 2010..
thats what shane posted, I was assuming thats when he'd have a reliable tranny :razz2: so it would be a agreed date...
Worst case senerio it could be the tempo of doom against a broken dsm against..???

Goat Blower 10-27-2004 02:53 PM

Is this bench racing or an actual race?

And where do I place my bet? ;)

AJ 10-27-2004 02:54 PM

50/50 chance of getting the answer to that question right Steve. LOL

Raptor 10-27-2004 03:00 PM

Like I said, I am in for this one way or another. Not a bench race in my book, we will just have to see if the competition is up to the challenge :stick:

stikx 10-27-2004 03:57 PM

i say shops build cars and go Time Attack forget drag racing.

Your thinking priveledges are hereby revoked. :slap:

Raptor 10-27-2004 07:57 PM

Come on Sallys I know you are up for it, any takers? Other than just John :3gears:

Raptor 10-27-2004 07:58 PM

And yes, the NSX is welcome, no exclusions on cars as long as they are licensed. I will even come up with a suitable trophy.

Raptor 10-27-2004 08:05 PM

Hey, maybe this is a good reason for JET to go legit, get your business legal and you can get in on this too.:bounce:

1ViciousGSX 10-27-2004 08:07 PM

I think it should follow these rules;

1. It must be a licensed street car
2. It must run full exhaust (dump tube is optional)
3. It must have D.O.T. approved tires (any kind you like)
4. The engine manufacturer must match the car (transplants of the same make are acceptable)
5. Imports only (fuck no, Camaros/Firebirds are not allowed)
6. All entrants must run the same fuel (nitrous is optional)

Other than this, I think it should be open to what ever you want to do to the car.

hahahaha

Hey... Metro Mitsu is a shop right ?
I wanna run too, even though I'll get smoked lol.

Raptor 10-27-2004 08:37 PM

Metro qualifies in my book, you can run if you want, maybe we can get Cabe to run in his Falcon.

IneedaGSX 10-27-2004 08:41 PM

I would like too see this go down so I know who can build the best motor.

ACRucrazy 10-27-2004 09:50 PM

So does my shop count?
BBY Mobile biatch!

Why? I don't plan on running a full exhaust at the track. You don't have to run an exhuast in a lot of the classes that my car would be closest to.

Quote:

3. It must have D.O.T. approved tires (any kind you like)

Why? Are we trying to make it a street class?

What about tranny and rear end?

That would be too hard to enforce and not fair. I don't want to run some shitty 110 or pump gas, and someone else might not want to run C16.

If we are going to have a bunch of rules, maybe we should follow the rules of a real racing class or just not bother and bring whatever and run for fun.

PSI2HI 10-27-2004 10:12 PM

Yeah some of these rules throw both our cars out of competion as well. Like the drivetrain and exhaust rules.

1ViciousGSX 10-27-2004 10:16 PM

Raptor said he would like it to be licensed street cars. Just trying to give everybody some type of idea of what's expected.

This is Raptor's idea, I just added some thoughts about it. Raptor will have the final say on this.

PSI2HI 10-27-2004 10:55 PM

We got all street cars just some w/o full exhaust and some w/motors/trans that dont belong in the cars their in.

Raptor 10-27-2004 10:58 PM

I don't think it even has to run on the street, just be licensed for it. If we followed all the rules above, I wouldn't be able to run either.

The only thing really excluded would be all out professional drag cars (alcohol rails etc) Since there are local shops that have run them for years. The only requirement is still the license plate. Otherwise, anything else goes in my book.

slowbubblecar 10-27-2004 11:15 PM

would our garage count as a shop? We always have at least 1 broken dsm in sitting in there to fix or mod just like QPR

Raptor 10-27-2004 11:17 PM

Only if you want to get a business license, insurance etc. The reason this is good is that it will promote one of the local businesses and possibly more depending on the results, it raises the bar for all. But the ones that should be to benefit are the ones following the rules of business, paying the taxes and insurance, licenses etc. So do that and you can be in.

niterydr 10-27-2004 11:21 PM

I would like to see licensed performance/repair shops only.
IMO the car only needs to follow:
1) Must have been a registered street chassis at some point in its life.
2) Must beable to be 'street driven' without toooo many tickets.
So pretty much no rails, the car must be a door slammer of some type.
My car is personally being built for 'street class', NDRA turbo 6 catagory if you want to be specific, so I'll obviously be following all these rules + 1 millio more...just not trying to outlaw any creations....except rails.
Minimum weight of 1500lbs w/driver?
just some ideas.

Raptor 10-27-2004 11:25 PM

Just a license. Anything else goes. If you are up to the challenge, bring what you can. Other rules would serve no benefit other than limiting the competition and I dont see that as necessary. Excludes rails only, no other rules, if you can get a license on your pro stock, bring it.

Raptor 10-27-2004 11:43 PM

Josh and James, stay on topic, if you want to continue your spat, go to the thread I created for you.

That rules out half of the shops in town.

BWHAHAHAHA!!!
well they have to appear to be 'legal' then.
atleast have a registered name with the damm state!

Raptor 10-28-2004 12:02 AM

I think the ones that don't play by the same rules shouldn't be in it. If there are shops interested in competing, they need to at least be legal businesses. Who does that rule out?

SlowWhite 10-28-2004 07:32 AM

Well can I race under "Barton Jewelers" - Since this is a company my mother and I started. and and still have a business license and Tax ID for?

Raptor 10-28-2004 10:25 AM

Nice try, but no. It needs to be a shop in the import performance industry, sorry i didn't make that clear.

Enes 10-28-2004 11:04 AM

damn i was hoping to run under one of mine ;( .. oh well..

this should be interesting.... but the point is, what is it going to prove? which shop is better at making powerfull cars?

wheres my SCCA autocross people at?

Raptor 10-28-2004 03:26 PM

I cleaned up the stupid posts. The point is to raise the bar for performance shops in the area as well as have some fun competition. It gives a chance for the local shops to showcase some of the things they might normally not have the chance to show etc. Not a bad move for any shop to compete IMO.

DSMs suck for autocross. You spend too much time at low speeds in parking lot racing. DSM 1st gears usually suck getting into and out of and turbos spool slow in low gears.

I am already working on that! I have the business license paperwork on the way. It is just a side job right now, but I am suprised at how much business is picking up. It definately has potential, now if I can just find more time! :bounce:
