So why are all of us into cars in general? Anybody know? Or at least why you are?

AJ 10-12-2004 08:17 PM

I have a 1.8. I think thats as close to being out of cars as it comes. Why I got into them before... I will never know. I started with a 97 GST cause I loved the wing. How gay is that?

slowbubblecar 10-12-2004 08:19 PM

I am in it for speed and something to do for fun as a hobby. Some people like the ricers on here are in because they think there car will get them hot girls.

That would be "AJ" gay.

A//// Guy 10-12-2004 09:02 PM

Im in it to piss my girlfriend off

ACRucrazy 10-12-2004 09:16 PM

Im in it for the speed, its addictive.
Cars cant cheat on you, although they can take all your time and money like girls.
They dont talk back, and love it when your ride em hard!

Plus chics dig guys with cool cars!

Raptor 10-12-2004 09:29 PM

Obsessive need to go fast. It also stems from a need to dominate anything sitting beside you at a light so maybe an extreme competition thing as well.

IneedaGSX 10-12-2004 09:32 PM

I don't know but I think I like cars because almost everyone can relate to a "fast car."

JET 10-12-2004 09:33 PM

I agree, there is definately competition involved. I want to be able to beat anything sitting next to me at the light. Will that happen? No, but I want to beat as much stuff as possible. Since I got my house I have been trying to resist the urge, but it is not working very well. Hopefully I can stay working on other peoples' cars enough that I won't have time to work on my own!

unreal808 10-12-2004 09:58 PM

Most people are like sheep, thay drive form point A to Point B and are happy...BAAA BAA. I like to "fuck around" light up the tires, take off too fast, corner too fast, and have the ability to beat up on other peoples cars. Its like a therapy, after a bad day at work or whatever. I never thought that I would work on cars for a living. But I save alot of money doing my own work. and thats a good thing, the way I brake stuff racing sheep. :3gears:

ThorCW 10-12-2004 10:03 PM

It is a relief for me and im going to say this now I DRIVE A HONDA. So when i have a bad day I go out and drive my car go fast corner hard it reliable and never breaks up with me. Plus it gives me something to do and work for.

A//// Guy 10-12-2004 11:52 PM

Its a competition thing, but its also something I feel gives me joy. Even when some bolts decide to be gay or things dont work out its still beats working or sitting in front of the TV. It also takes stress away, just putzing in the garage with no worries.

I think for me cleanliness is the biggest factor and Im just super anal about it. Speed is cool but thats not all of it for me. Looks are nice too so I guess I like a little rice ;)

1ViciousGSX 10-12-2004 11:58 PM

'Cause I love getting fucked up the ass, and Magnus Motorsports are the kings of a dry fuck.

Matt D. 10-13-2004 12:22 AM

I had always wished I had a sportscar... The Talon is the first. Little things turned into big things. Being a perfectionist doesn't help... I want to have a car that's fun to drive. One that handles well, and has a lot of power on tap.

sleepydsm 10-13-2004 12:29 AM

When I first played Gran Turismo in 7th grade. I was 13, didn't know jack shit about cars, and just bought the best parts you could get! A videogame started my addiction. I read more and more about cars and how they work, listened to my dad, and read my never-ending subscription to Road & Track. Then my dad and I riced out his Honda, 'cause he wanted "more power." It was awesome.

IndiEP 10-13-2004 12:51 AM

I have no idea why I like cars. I started working on em 'cause my first car sucked and didn't really have a choice. I don't street race or speed really but its always nice in the back of my head to know that I could take everyone around me and when the cIvi< Bo1Z won't even look at you is also cool. I'm also cheap and have no current intentions of leasing/financing a car and carrying full coverage insurance. I can build a more reliable car than some one spending 5K on a A->B car and it'll also be faster/fun/cheaper. People spend a lot of time driving so you might as well like what you drive.

Oh, then theres also the pride of knowing exactly whats going on under your hood and being a perfectionist...

1QUICK4 10-13-2004 12:58 AM

I just like racing, don't matter what kind :3gears:

Good thing your part owner of a shop huh? :stick: ;)

I got into it due my childhood. Always been very competitive and fascinated by extreme activities. Cars finally got my attention in my later teens. Now its all about being faster than others and the rush you get while driving something powerful.
Its all about owning others ;).

:headache: Because I made a bad choice. I wish I never got into them. I have spent thousands of dollars on the damn things so they can sit in the road broken. I wish I still had the old integra and all the money I have wasted on DSMs. I have too damn much money tied up in cars now. My weekends free time turns into working in the garage. I made a dumb choice and am paying for it (literally).

Kracka 10-13-2004 03:21 AM

I have always been a competitive person plus it was a great way for me to relax. I also think I started getting so heavy in to it b/c it was a way for me to run away and escape from my very controlling ex g/f.

Super Bleeder!! 10-13-2004 03:36 AM

its a machine, machines are interesting to me :)

Bah, it's just money. What else would you do with it if you didn't spend it on cars?? It's just a hobby for most of us. We get joy out of fixing stuff and seeing it run (that is why we chose DSM's :P ) or we feel good for making more power than the engineers got out of it.

Phaze1ne 10-13-2004 09:46 PM

I've been thinking of getting out of the whole car deal altogether. At sometimes I just get so sick of people talking about cars, and these shitty ass ricer cars, POS with fart cans, neons, etc... At other times I love cars and love modding them.

JustROLLIN 10-13-2004 10:21 PM

I have a serious competitive side that loves to take anyone on in just about any arena. Speed is the best drug known to man, believe me on this one. ;)

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 10-13-2004 10:31 PM

I hate cars, but I don't think I'd be able to live having a slow car and not being able to pass people with 5% throttle especially with my road rage/driving skills ;)

dumb_ricer 10-13-2004 11:04 PM

To be honest I have no idea why I got into cars. I know part of the reason (as gay as it is/sounds) is the fast and the furious. For some reason it just pulled me in and I have been learning ever since. When I first watched the movie I had no idea what a turbo was or what a intercooler or what any of the engine codes they blabbed off were. I didnt even know what a supra, RX7, or anything else were.

After a while I got tired of everyone saying all the cars were the shit and I started researching about the import scene. I learned about rice and how I really only like the performance shit. Then I wanted to learn so I could correct people on things they said wrong. I have always been wierd in the way of correcting people if theyre wrong, its just addicting. Then I joined neons.org and got hooked on neon performance because that is what I knew I was getting when I turned 16. Then I learned about DSM's and was torn on whether to buy a DSM and let my dad keep the neon or take the neon. I decided to take the neon for reasons of cheap parts and handling. I now know I made the wrong and the right choice. I love my cars handling, but Ive also learned that N/A performance is retarded when you can turbocharge and make so much more power. It was beyond me that a 2.0 could make 600hp and still be streetable.

Now I'm torn on whether to turbo the neon and turn that into a money pit or to buy a DSM and build and turn that into a money pit. Choices, choices. I also want an LS1 but insurance and cost would own me.

Emcee gsxtc 10-14-2004 01:20 AM

I was never into motors, I never liked cars. I just always got sick of what everyone else had. They bought Nikes, I bought Adidas. They bought Coke, I bought Pepsi. I hated the gran' dams and the grand pricks (no typos). I first heard about modding cars 2 years before fast and the furious and I was hooked. I had plans to buy a civic, get a motor from japan, build it, turbo it, and go v8 stompin. Then F & F came out, I like the movie, was all about the concept of the 10 sec show car with custom graphics represent yourself and all, but it created the RICED OUT people that came in droves with altezzas on trucks cars and the like. I realized, I wanted performance to stay away from that crowd. Loved the idea of the 2g eclipse and searched until I could find one that was black 5 speed, without the gray interior. Then from there the whole boost feeling consumed me. Now I am addict with my own small dsm parts yard.

:dsmrule:

Im still not much of a mechanic, ask Mike, my car arrived tonight at QPR.

I've been into cars ever since I was little. I lived in a really small town when I was growing up, and It was a special occassion when my family went to the "City". My dad would always buy me a Hotwheels or Matchbox car, and for that reason I can say it was him who got me into cars. As I got older I was always in the garage watching my dad work on his 1965 Baracuda.

When I got my drivers liscense I bought my own car, which was actually a pickup for $200. It was the biggest POS I have ever owned. It was a 1986 Dodge D50 (a.k.a. Mitsubishi Mighty Max). It had a blown engine so I ordered a Japanese take-out engine not knowing what I was getting myself into. I rebuilt the entire truck from the ground up installing every performance goodie I could find or make. After 2 years of headaches and about $3000 later it was finally mechanically sound. I stumbled into street racing on accident one day when one of my friends in his Civic (after watching F&F for the first time) challenged me to a race. I never expected to win but did. That was it..........I was Hooked on cars and tuning from that point.

.....................That was kinda long!!!!! :toast:

curt_gendron 10-14-2004 09:13 PM

He who dies with the most toys win. ;)

For me its about the speed. Wheter its blasting down the drag strip or a on ramp. Its a rush. I also love just cruising around on a nice summer day. When I was younger, it was also about picking up the chics. A 3/S is good for that. ;)

later,
Curt

For me, it's all about wasting money. Sure I could just take out my lighter and start burning up 20's, but then my room would smell.

Kougar 10-15-2004 09:20 AM

I honestly can't remember exactly why/how i got into cars, but I think it had something to do with the post FnF people everywhere. They made car 'tuning' mainstream, and it finally got my attention and I started lookin at stuff. My dad had a civic and told me i would get it when i graduated, so I got into that for a bit. After a while I decided that those weren't worth it, if you were going to do something to a car, make it a cool car at least.

Then my 'buddy' (who sold khad his talon) had the quest. I thought it looked sweet as hell, it was rare, turbo, rwd, etc so i became obsessed with it. I eventually got it, then i became hooked on fixing it, making it faster, and making it look better.

Of course now I think cars are a waste of money and have moved onto 2 wheeled toys. Bikes are for the speed the escape from life while riding. It's a stress reliever kinda.

SlowWhite 10-15-2004 10:12 AM

I got into cars in highschool - I remember when it was awesome that one of our friends had a car and we'd all just pile into this piece of Shit car, 2 people shoved in the trunk. And just head out, and do what ever it was we wanted. Felt like it opened our entire worlds to new possibilitys, we could just get up and go where ever we wanted.

from those days of Cruising around I got into Moding Cars, particularly Audio stuff... cause what's a cruise with out music?

So what started out as simple deck upgrade soon moved to amps, speakers, etc, etc. Got to the point where I had to carry Ear plugs for when I'd do demo's for people, etc.

As for racing? well I got tired of DB Drag racing and wanted to focus more on Show/quality of sound, and I'd noticed that bodykits, and having everything custom was needed if you wanted to be competitive. So I started to look into what I can do to the car to make it go faster, wasn't much for a 98 Sebring LXI back then.

Well that year I went to visit my brother in NY and on my last day he took me to one of his SCCA events. And let me drive his SCCA Prepped GTP. It was the most fun I'd had in a long ass time. Then when the event was over with they allowed free runs and my brother got to take me as a passenger on a run. And It was the scariest car ride I'd ever been on. I'd never had a rush like that ever. And couldn't believe how well and how fast he was hitting corners, When I got out the car I was shaking for the adreniline rush. At that point I was hooked.

So when I got back I went up to "speedwerks" - where Moe, Devin, Isaak, Brent worked And said what can you do to my car to make it go fast. Well there wasn't much or at least not enough to give me the power I was looking for.

I started talking with my brother about it and what car should I get and he said Get a AWD Eclipse, and that those things are just killing everyone at his SCCA Events. And said that you can do what ever you wanted to them.

So I went back up to Speedwerks and talked them about Eclipse's and they said we can do what ever you want to an Eclipse, and that's when I met Brent Rau.

Well the final Straw was when I took my father down to pick up his 28' RV - and the damn thing out pulled me from a stop sign. I sold my Sebring and picked up the GS-T, 4 days later.

And I've been moding ever since. I mod my car how I want, it's all personal for me. I view it as an form of Art and a hobby. My car is my Canvas. I take pride in everything I do to it.

I'd rather be spending my money on my car then out doing Drugs, Drinking, or parting it up. I made that mistake my Senior year of high school and it cost my Full Ride to Syracuse University.

There's a lot worste things you can spend your money on IMO. And everyone needs something for themselves, it's a way to relieve stress, and to get away from the Everyday BS. For me when I'm working on my car I don't think about anything else. And Life becomes calm.

Eclipse99 10-15-2004 11:55 AM

definitly the competition, also to stand out and get attention. I love getting looks as i drive by other cars or roll through shopping centers.

1slowdsm 10-15-2004 10:33 PM

For me its about the competition also. My cousin's had civics and one of them was turbocharged and pulled like mad. Thats when I wanted a turbo car and he told me to get an eclipse. I was at RF and watching the DSMs and wanted one really bad. When I got my permit, I started to look for a DSM and it took me 1/2 year. Now I'm going for the quickest car at school all I have to do left is beat an Iroc-Z, Firebird and Stang GT and I'll be on top. I like to beat the V8 next to me at a stop light, when he thinks he's in for an easy win against a stock looking import. It gets me some popularity at school also. People I dont know, know me by "The kid with the Talon." Oh yeah, I cant forget about the speed. I'm always in the fast lane on the highway, I cant stand people passing by me...thats when I switch lanes and keep up with them.
