I finally put in my new turbo tonight! its running a little rough but nothing a
little tuning with the afc cant fix. Had a plain b 16 g on it before now i have a evo b16g just a little bit bigger. now more fun it the tsi.

slowbubblecar 09-24-2004 10:23 AM

I'd say upgrading from a big 16g to an evo 16g was a waste of money unless the other one was bad.

Enes 09-24-2004 10:31 AM

don't spoil mans excitement.. how cruel are you..

LOL j/k..

should of just gone either with s20g if you want daily driven with boost..

or a 50 trim if you want higher boost less during regular driving.

I wuld have gone to a 20g or 50 trim if it was for upgrading purposes. You won't even notice a difference between the evo and big on the but-o-meter or much by numbers. Defenitly not enough to justify buying a new one IMO

Done it your self? And remeber you can't compare from one car to another, times/ speed varyfrom car to car with the same turbo. Just look at Peter's car for example. 16G and a high 14 at best if I remeber right.

Emcee gsxtc 09-24-2004 05:07 PM

Well sweet, I hope you enjoy it.

Everyone else should remember that not everyone wants 900hp and 7 sec quarter mile times. :stick:

Enes 09-24-2004 05:07 PM

sometimes.. like in my case. it also comes down to the driver as well...

The EVO III 16G is not going to produce much more power than a a regular Big 16G. However it is a definate upgrade, and is a lot better turbo. Here is why:

The EVO III 16G has a stiffer WG actuator spring, the turbine housing weighs 2lbs less, the turbine outlet is 2.5" vs. 2" on the regular Big 16G, the compressor wheel on the two turbos is quit similar, the EVO III is only .010" larger, the compressor wheel blades are 50% thinner than the Big 16G. So it doesn't take a genious to a add all that up and get a quicker spooling, more effecient turbo.

Yeah its not a huge upgrade but its definetly a step up from the Big 16G. If you don't want to make huge huge numbers and just want a quick street driven daily driver for CHEAP (turbo is only $550) than its a good choice.

The turbo will make 400 hp with supporting mods.

I got 320 to the wheels with a weak motor(173K old) with it and a conservative 22 psi. I can't wait to see what happens when I get the built motor, sheet metal, cams and 75 shot. Plus I don't have to spend more than a few bucks a gallon to run gas to get those numbers.

Good choice, you'll like it.

Please link me to a dyno sheet with a 400 hp 16g please. I would like to see where it spools, hp and torque. Are you talking about on the juice?

slowbubblecar 09-25-2004 12:57 PM

That would need to be a lot of supporting mods. You don't need anything to really support a 16g.

EVOIII16G DYNO CHART

There it is for all you non believers.

Chart.

Shane@DBPerformance 09-25-2004 01:16 PM

Wow, that is one laggy 16G.

TheBlizzard 09-25-2004 01:51 PM

Must be the .010" bigger wheel....

CRAIG

A//// Guy 09-25-2004 05:51 PM

That is not a 16G... It should spool at around 3 grand max.

TheBlizzard 09-25-2004 05:59 PM

You should contact slowboy racing and call bullshit then. Seems laggy but they advertise it like that, so I wonder whats the deal?

CRAIG

A//// Guy 09-25-2004 06:14 PM

Eh thats too much work... ;)

Just seems way to laggy to me.

Jakey 09-25-2004 06:17 PM

Couldn't it be possible the extra lag is from a combination of clipping and heavy porting? Maybe? :bounce:

john 09-26-2004 12:25 AM

A 50 trim isn't that laggy.

Alpine TSi 09-26-2004 12:32 AM

Yeah that is hella laggy, mine spools 22 psi at about 3200 RPM(all thanks a to a QPR ported head).

TSISLEEPA 09-26-2004 12:40 AM

Yah the evo b 16 isnt a huge step up but it was what i could afford right now. And yes i have all the other goodies to support 400hp. I bought the car with seised balancer shafts and a blown turbo for $1800 Pretty dam good deal of you ask me. Droped the engine and put a block off kit on and a new turbo and called it a day!

Heres what else i got in the car.

Tmo eprom ecu stage 2
ACT clutch
web cams street grind
Apexi safc
front mount intercooler with piping and sprayers
2g mas
3in exhaust
ported polished
5 angle grind decked and dipped
2g pistons
rc 550 injectors

and all the other dsm goodies and stuff i cant remember

the guy that had it before me had it dyno at 397hp

TSISLEEPA 09-26-2004 12:47 AM

Yah ive been really busy with work so i havent been able to work on my car lately.
But i got the turbo in and the block off kit. It is running really REALLY rough though. looks like more tuning with the loger and the safc. Any advice would be greatly appriciated!
Thanks Matt.

Super Bleeder!! 09-26-2004 01:14 AM

i won't believe this 400whp theory on a 16g until someone makes that power on elites machine

john 09-26-2004 12:44 PM

I dont believe it either and still do not as SBR must have messed up the dyno sheets and put in one for a 50 trim. A 1.8 honda would spool a 16g before that.

Did he prove that to you with a dyno sheet or something? I just do not see how a 16g could provide enough airflow for 400hp. I though Craig was going to post a link to a engine dyno or something, not a fucked up link on a website.

Seems that every turbo can make 400hp now. First it was every 50 trim on pump and now a 16g :stick: . I should downgrade and call myself set ;) .

Huh?

At-Least-It's-An-Evo 09-26-2004 01:51 PM

It did make over 400, but we'll just see how well it does at the track, those numbers are more important than hp numbers because every dyno is different.

TheBlizzard 09-26-2004 03:21 PM

:razz2:

slowbubblecar 09-26-2004 09:28 PM

I was going to say it didn't look like a 16g when I first saw the chart. TSISLEEPA, are those your only mods? I'd say hard to get 397hp from those. I think the guy was giving you bs.

TSISLEEPA 09-26-2004 11:35 PM

yah i guess that ill just have to see what it puts out after i get it tuned and running strong like it used too.im curous as to how strong a pull it will have too. either way i still got a good deal.
