I think this is so wrong....

You know it wasn't actually a ban on assault rifles... Only on certain parts you could not put on them. You have always been able to purchase assault rifles, you just need to pass a background check to get the permit (i.e. Permit to purchase handgun/assault rifle).

The law was pretty stupid in the first place.It was to give a false sense of security, while in reality the weapons that were banned, are not any more lethal, concealable or dangerous than ones that weren't.The criminals still had these banned weapons, but law abiding citizens weren't allowed to purchase.This and all gun laws only keep guns out of the hands of the law abiding, not the law breaking.Anyway this is what was banned-

Rifles w/

Folding/telescoping stock
Protruding pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Threaded muzzle or flash suppressor
Grenade launcher

Pistols w/

Magazine outside grip
Threaded muzzle
Barrel shroud
Unloaded weight of 50 ounces or more
Semi-automatic version of a fully automatic weapon

Shotguns w/

Folding/telescoping stock
Protruding pistol grip
Detachable magazine capacity
Fixed magazine capacity greater than 5 rounds

As well as a handful banned by their name Uzi, TEC-9, etc.

Even though the ban has expired, there is still a 7 week (?) waiting period if you'd buy a gun right now. That will take it right up to election day. :stick:

You really think a fricking law has kept these guns out of the streets. Thats BS, you can get a gun anywhere, you dont need to go to a shop, people are so ignorant and think that a law is going to really make things worse.

that kinda reminds me of the survey they gave us a couple weeks ago. They asked us how to stop underage drinkin in the marine corps. We told em there's only 2 ways to stop it. 1 is to only enlist people who are 21 and older, 2 is to just Legalize it at 18. Just cuz it's illegal to own a certain weapon, doesn't mean people aren't gunna get em. Just visit a gunshow in AZ. They have prolly the most leniant gun laws in the whole country. You can get anything there. And ya that law was just a false sense of security. Oh yay, now I can put a flash suppressor on my already lethal AR-15.

The people you should have been worried about are the ones that would go ahead and buy a gun illegally. This doesn't change anything except for the law abiding citizens. Oh yeah, I forgot, there is no way a double-barrel shotgun or a handgun with 10-round clip could kill anyone. This is just another issue that the media is exploiting to up their ratings. All of my European friends have told me that America is far less-free than the majority of European countries. It is a free country aslong as we each stay in our own little boxes and don't think outside the norm. You still have to pass the same background check you have always had to since 1974. Americans have always been able to buy AR's. The ban has always had nothing to do with being able to buy a rifle, Just customization.

An AR-15 takes 3 parts to become full auto. The ban affected them by taking away the bayonet lug (how many bayonet stabbings do you see???) and the flash suppressor. Gotta make sure that the flash is hidden more when you are inside McDonalds letting it rip.

It really was a dumb law. Most of the weapons it was trying to ban still came into the country, just in a slightly different form. The law was only a response to a bunch of mass shootings that happened at the time to try and make the public feel safer. It was just a mind game. Nothing REALLY changed with the law except for high capacity magazines went up in price for some guns, you could still get them though.

How would you defend your House? I sleep better knowing that the home alarm is on the dog is running around and the S&W and the 12 gauge are loaded. But than I do live in North Minneapolis.

why would someone carry a fully auto weapon as protection? that sounds highly rediculous. you have to admit.

also, i think that any of you who would buy one of these previously banned guns probably don't live in an area where you honestly need them. so, why exactly do you want one? is there something you can achieve (as in shooting targets) with an auto that you couldn't with a regular or semi auto gun?
