There is a free software you can download. One is called TunerStein I believe and the other is called MMCD I believe. All you need is the wire that runs from the serial port on your PC and some sort of sync software to install the program onto a PDA. Once on the PDA double click it.

You will also need the logger cable for your car's diagnostic port.

I am running TMO software on my laptop. I recommend it.

Matt D. 08-10-2004 01:15 AM

TunerStein (PDA and PC versions) - http://students.db.erau.edu/~szabafab/stein/

MMCD (Palm only) - http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/

Halon 08-10-2004 02:10 AM

i just picked me up an m100 for 10 bux shipped! I'm going as cheap as possible. Prolly gunna run that freeware stuff.

Kracka 08-10-2004 03:08 AM

I ran the PocketLogger software on a Palm M105. I tried out that freeware stuff just to see what it was like and it sucked. It was always crashing and locking my Palm up, and even when it didn't it wouldn't work quite right ever. The PocketLogger software was great, very stable and lots of nice little features.

I actually have a computer in my car so, if i could find pc based one that would be cool...

larryr 08-10-2004 06:31 AM

damn that TMO Software is expensive, 300$ is it that good ?

JustROLLIN 08-10-2004 11:31 PM

Damn, you big balln Larry.

Chris,

Which software were you running? TunerStein or MMCD and how long ago was this?

Kracka 08-11-2004 12:23 AM

I tried both of those shitty freeware programs and went right back to the PocketLogger software from Digital Tuning since it actually worked.

1slowdsm 08-11-2004 09:25 PM

What exactly do I need for the whole datalogging set up? I'm thinking about getting one soon, but I need to get all the info on it first. All I know so far is what is on this page, so I have quite a ways to go.

1slowdsm 08-12-2004 04:29 PM

Does anyone know of the Zire 21 Handheld Organizer? Is that any good to use for datalogging? I'm trying to look for something cheap that will work.

Okay, forget that one up there. I just got done looking at the compatibility chart and I guess that one doesnt work with the PocketLogger. All the ones that work are like $$$ as heck! :headache: Anyone still know of any cheap PDAs? :bounce:

larryr 08-12-2004 04:42 PM

Does anyone have a good diagram for making the cord for dataloggin ? I am going to be using a PC for the loggin, I believe you use a serial cable if I am right, then u can just put some electrical ends on it and clip it to the proper terminals in the diag port ?

Thanks -

The best, most compatible handheld for 1G/2G logging and even DSMLink is the Palm IIIc

you can find them on ebay for dirt cheap. i picked up mine like new almost 2 years ago for $100

then get a serial modem cable from syncablesolutions.com for $20 and you are all set

well, that and getting a proper ALDL cable (1G) or ODBII cable (2G) .. i think i have an OBDII cable around if you want to buy it

Whoa, thats not a bad deal. I thought I would have to end up spending $400 on a Datalogger. How does that set-up work for you? I'm still trying to get as many opinions as I can before I start spending.
Oh yeah...what is that ALDL cable you're talking about. I'm guessing it has the word DataLogging in there somewhere, right?

the aldl cable is what connects to the diagnostic connector of your 1G. i checked on ebay, palm IIIc's are going for like $50. Go to pocketlogger.com and buy their "DSM Pocketlogger" cable and software package for $125, and you're good to go.

Alternatively, you can buy a DSM/ALDL logger cable off ebay for really cheap and use the MMCD software, which is free.

Aside from the ALDL/DSM logger cable and software though, yes, all you need is the Palm IIIc and a modem cable from syncablesolutions.com

1slowdsm 08-13-2004 05:29 PM

So I'll be spending about a little over $200. Thats a whole lot better than spending $400 on that other stuff I had in mind, haha.

How important is that Datalogger? If its not all that important right now, then I'll have to wait a few months to get one up and running. Unless its a MUST, then I'll have to get it next.

weshole 08-14-2004 08:18 AM

I have a couple of cables laying around. I'll ship one to your door for $22.00. I'll even throw in the software on a cd for ya seeing as how I have already got them burned also.

So you're talking about the ALDL Datalogging cables and that software? Its not broken or anything is it? Twenty-Two bucks doesnt sound too bad, after I get that all I need to get is the Palm IIIc right? I still dont know how soon its going to be until I get that Palm IIIC, with all the stuff I need to get for school/car and all it might be a while. But I can still get that cable and software now so I wont have to worry about it later. I'll think about it, give me a few days.

weshole 08-15-2004 09:48 AM

It's should plug right into it's hotsync cable just like my m100. actually I have the MMCD freeware and have used it without any issues at all. Let me know when you want one and I'll get ya taken care of.

illz 08-15-2004 03:47 PM

yeah ive been using MMCd the past few days, it's great

1slowdsm 08-15-2004 05:50 PM

How much is it for the m100 you guys have?

So if I get that software and cable from Weshole and I get a Palm IIIc or that m100, will I be set? Or is there something else I need to get?

weshole 08-15-2004 06:41 PM

Either will work great. the PalmIIIc will have more features and a better display along with being rechargeable whereas the m100 is not. The M100 is entry level but does the job. Just the Palm, the cable, and the software is all you need and you'll be set. I did it all for about $75.00 total. And believe me, You will need it to do any real tuning. Hope this helps.

larryr 08-28-2004 02:52 PM

i want mmcd 8)

JustROLLIN 08-28-2004 04:37 PM

Yeah, I started using MMCD on Wednesday of last week and have actually like the software quite a bit.

Its possible that the software people were having issues with was older software that had bugs.

1slowdsm 09-14-2004 06:59 PM

Does anyone here have the software and cables. I tried to PM Weshole, but havent gotten a reply for a few weeks. I'm looking for something new to put into my car and I was thinking about the datalogger or else I'm going to get a larger exhaust piping.

MATCHBX 09-14-2004 08:12 PM

Just on a side note....I've been using MMCD software for the past 6 months without any issue whatsoever. It's not the end-all-be-all software, but for free I'm not complaining.

I have Technomotive for my laptop and absolutely love that. Alot of good features. I got mine from Ebay with a logger cable for $50 3 years ago. It doesn't have the ALDL connector on it but it gets the job done. When i get one for Terina's car, it will have the ALDL connector on it.

Halon 09-14-2004 10:22 PM

i got a cable and software from a dude off tuners for 25 shipped from cali.

1slowdsm 09-15-2004 06:30 AM

Ask the guy if he still has anymore cables and softwares. What kind of software did he give you?

Halon 09-15-2004 07:12 AM

mmcd, I'll look and see if i have his name still sittin around anywhere. Otherwise just search the vendors classifieds for a guy sellin cables and software.

Halon 09-15-2004 07:20 AM

here's a link to the guys thread who i bought it from
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread...+cable+software

1slowdsm 09-15-2004 04:59 PM

Thanks for the link. I just e-mailed him like a few mins ago. We'll see if he still has any left.

weshole 09-15-2004 11:03 PM

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the cables and software. I haven't been on the site lately. I do have a few cables left and the software. I'm selling them for $20.00 shipped anywhere in Mn. If the other deal falls through let me know. Sorry again about the wait.

1slowdsm 09-16-2004 09:51 PM

That guy hasnt e-mailed me back yet. So I'll buy it from you. Just tell me how I can pay you and stuff like that.

Halon 09-17-2004 12:15 AM

He was kinda slow to get back to me too. He still has tons of em. But ya I'd buy it from the local instead if i were you

1slowdsm 09-18-2004 03:28 PM

Ok, cool. He just e-mailed me back today. So I'll just get it from him.

1slowdsm 09-18-2004 08:41 PM

I need some advice on this PDA.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5721183228&rd=1

Can you guys tell me if its good for datalogging?

A//// Guy 09-18-2004 09:05 PM

Should be fine... I picked up a platinum handspring on ebay for 50 bucks last year, works great.

1slowdsm 09-19-2004 12:01 AM

I guess I'll get that Palm IIIc then. I should have everything within one and half to two weeks.

Halon 09-19-2004 08:05 AM

I got my m100 for 10 bux shipped. If you want to know which ones are compatible, just go on pocketloggers website and they will list all the compatible ones.
