A//// Guy 08-04-2004 09:32 PM

I just saw the follow up on channel 9. Tyler got on tv that was awesome haha!

They chose to seperate the more "experienced" people from the younger group that likes to "play cat and mouse" with the cops.

Also they mentioned that MN dragways found a spot south of the cities but they said there is no confirmed spot.. just that it is south 1 hour or so.... which doesnt make it any better???!!! Rock falls is like 1.5 hours away.. woopty doo!

Anyway they just showed half of the footage from the last airing and expanded on a solution...

It was gay.

1slowdsm 08-04-2004 09:43 PM

I just got done watching that also. I waited for that and it wasnt even all that great. They didnt make the racers look bad, but they also didnt say much other than tell us that they have a soon-to-be-track and that amateurs are the dumb ones. I wonder if he is refering to me as well, I've only had my license for 1.7 years but I dont play cat and mouse. I wonder what category my car would fall under, its got a Chrysler body but an import engine. Maybe its in its own category like....domestic import, haha..j/k!

And they did replay a lot of scenes from last Sunday, I still saw those two (monster)civics racing with that one guy who flagged them. Anyways...I dont really care if they do open up that new track place. Its still gonna cost more money than street racing (in some cases) and its still far away. I'd have to leave really early, then waste lots of gas getting there and then pay the entrance fee. By that time, there would be like TONS of cars there, so I'd only get like 2-3 races for what I've spent. I'd rather just go to Rock Falls every once in a while to see my time and thats it, after that its normal driving for me...unless I run into some cocky punk who thinks he is the Shiznit...some adrenaline rush every once in a while on the highway will keep me fueled for the track days!

Ring leader! It's all your fault, too!!

Medford is only 40 minutes from Burnsville, and 50 from Minneapolis. And the drive down 35 is a HELL of a lot better than the one to Rock Falls on 94... I drove that road to and from work (Owatonna to Minneapolis) for almost 2 years, it's not that bad.

MustGoFaster 08-04-2004 10:12 PM

Channel 5 also has a clip on street racing coming up tonight. Looks to be on the victoms of accidents caused by street racing.

Blade 08-04-2004 10:18 PM

Ty, how did you even get to be on there? Did you go to the Bdubbs meeting?

MustGoFaster 08-04-2004 10:23 PM

Well, one guy was hit by a 14yr old kid in a stolen car. NOT STREET RACING! The other was a passenger in a truck that was racing, he died. You know the risks if your are in a car that is racing. Other than that they showed some clips of rock falls, had Shaun in it, with the Supra. And also two street racing spots, one being the place on the river, the other just an industrial park. Overall, they just seemed to point out that there are legal place to race, but some people like the rush of the street.
Note, this is my review of the Ch. 5 story.

Where is Rock Falls? I have no clue where anything is? Is it a drag strip that's fairly local to Minneapolis?

Let's show clips of real problems.

People getting hit by cars of people chatting on phones and doing make up: i've seen it happen twice in person, both on Snelling Avenue.

Small foreign business ownwers using honest sales as a front for drugs and terrorism. Twin cities has one of the biggest terrorist watch lists. Next to NYC, LA and Detroit.

Home Invasions done by young kids, who instead of running, assault the home owner. Twice in the last month

Theft from autos by gangs in Saint Paul and area. happened to me 4 times.

Violent shoplifters. One of the last arrests I read a report on in downtown was a "12" year old kid. That's right 12. And he threatened a MPLS cop, who had a gun, tazer, asp, and mace. The kid had 3 knives on him. The guy before that was so big and violent, it took 2 cops, 3 security guards, and two good random people to control him. I've been maced, kicked in the head, punched in the face, kicked in the balls, spit upon, run over with a cart, and almost been hit by 3 cars.

I call that problems.

When was the last time you saw a street racing accident? I've seen one. In the last 3 years.

There are some serious problems with that track right now. I have been on it pretty steady because its really local (5 mins) to me. When it first was proposed in Medford one of the guys at the city hall(shack) didnt like it and vetoed it with no vote etc. Then enough of us bitched about the circumstances that has been brought back. If I can get some serious info from them, I plan to start a petition/donation to get it started up. If enough of us showed interest in racing there I dont think they could stop us.

I'm so pissed.. I missed it last night. I kept telling Jenny that we need to watch it, etc.

Well we completely forgot when the time came and went tanning... :headache:

Anyone get it on Video that I could barrow. (I can't download clips from the net. I don't have the right video player, and I can't download the latest version (ie: my work computer)

DSMPARTSGURU 08-05-2004 08:05 AM

THE ONLY ISSUE WITH A TRACK CLOSER IS .....

no one wants in there back yard.... that why all the local tracks closed in the 70's......

coon rapids was farm fields till the 70's now look at it .....

untill we as a united car loving family come together and promote the crap out of it, no one will let us build a noisey, well light, pollution causing area near them.....

curt_gendron 08-05-2004 08:17 AM

Other large cities have tracks in the metropolitan area. I was in Indianapolis a couple weeks ago. Indianapolis Raceway Park is right in a suburb of Indy. If you layed a map of Indy over the Twin Cities, it would be like driving to Minnetonka to get to the track. That would be awesome!! And that is what we really need.

In St. Louis, they have Gateway International Raceway. Its in East St. Louis which is kind of a run down old industrial area. But it is right in the middle of the city. Maybe they should plow down the whole warehouse district of Minnepolis and put the track there. ;) That way you won't affect any residents. Maybe you could leave Elite still standing. ;)

later,
Curt

SlowWhite 08-05-2004 08:23 AM

Hell no Elite would be the Registration office. :woowoo:

But I agree we need to have the track closer then Medford.

What I don't understand why they don't use Savage as the location?

They have Elko speed way, They have the Valley Fair, they have the Canterbury,

You'd think a Race Track would be the perfect addition to all of that. And with Elko they already have the Noise/Zoning so what the hell?

It's mostly industrial in that area anyways.

niterydr 08-05-2004 08:35 AM

I really hope we can get a track out of this ordeal...I would love a spot to run every weekend.
Otherwise I guess I'll be driving alot when the stealth is done.

Halon 08-05-2004 08:36 AM

Maybe you should bring that up to them. That's really not a bad idea at all. Also Phoenix is like that too, like where they have tracks real local. Firebird Raceway is on the outskirts of the Phoenix area, its by the city of Maricopa. But if you live in downtown Phoenix, it's no more than a 30 minute drive there. And if you don't wanna go there, just go to Phoenix Internation Raceway.

AJ 08-05-2004 09:34 AM

It will never get zoned. Figure there's a few years of work before seeing a track even if it gets re zoned. ALot of time for shit to go wrong. I didn't make it home till 10 so I didn't see it, and really don't care to. The avatar was awesome though! WooT!

Things get rezoned all the time, granted this is a big one, but it can be done.

SlowWhite 08-05-2004 10:00 AM

Savage/Shakopee !!!! Perfect location.

to hell with it only being open on the weekends. I say 7 days a week.

Mon-Frid - Night races
Sat/Sund - All day.

That's how they do it in Rochester NY by my brothers place - cost's $10 for night racing, and $35 for Day time Events.

Then after they get the 1/4 track done. They need to convert Elko into a full out SCCA/AARRF Track like St. cloud or DCTC.

Then life would be awesome :3gears:

Knoc 08-05-2004 12:06 PM

not to piss in anyones kool aid, but how is this suppose to get paid for? Whos gonna take the huge million of dollars risk? Honestly I dont think if there looking to get a track like the one in San Diego that itll ever fly or go through, because there isnt money in it. Think of the insurance and all that garbage. Id like to see a track just as much as the next guy, but I dont think anyones gonna risk it and shit, the state cant even afford a whole years supply of salt for the roads.. I was just curious if somone was lined up or what.

SlowWhite 08-05-2004 12:13 PM

there already is an organization that is willing to front the bill for this.

We just need the state to give them the Zoning so they can go a head and build it.

ELKO Speedway is in Elko MN past Lakeville, not Savage

Shokopee has Raceway Park/Valley Fair/etc. but Raceway Park & Elko Speedway have been getting noise complaints for the last 10 years from the neighborhoods sprouting up around them. There is no way they could get zoned for a 1/4 mile track. They are fighting to keep open even though they have been there much longer than the suburbs around them.

SlowWhite 08-05-2004 12:48 PM

And that piss's me off. If you don't want the noise then don't move next to someplace like Elko or Raceway park, etc.

If they were there first what gives you the right to kick them out? It's totally unfair IMO.

Now if I was living there first and someone build a track next to my house then I'd be pissed.

Actually I wouldnt mind, but theres nowhere to put it here. It would have to be right on the river in Shakopee, probably near VF.

Halon 08-05-2004 05:04 PM

just build it right along the river. 1 less safety barrier they'd have to make!

That also pisses me off. Theres people that move near the airport and then complain about the noise and want something done. Heres an idea, you never should of moved there!

Pushit2.0 08-05-2004 05:25 PM

I wonder if Flying cloud airport is open/flying all night. If not it would be good to run cars on the runway at night, but it would never happen. Or somewhere along the river would be good for a track. Minnesota dragways is the company/group starting the track right? I thought they found a spot 50min south of Minneapolis.
