talonracer_05 07-12-2004 03:25 PM

The other night I got a Letter in the mail from Cal State Long Beach saying that I was excepted in. So then my parents were so happy that they gave me the choice in buying any car under $40,000. Lately I was thinking about the 2003 SVT Cobra or a 2003 STI Subru. But I can't make up my mind. The only down fall is that I have to sell my 12 sec. talon to help on the down payment. Oh well, what do you guys think?

SlowWhite 07-12-2004 03:30 PM

TT Supra!!!!! for 40K you could find one with about 700-800whp.

Otherwise I'd go with the 03 cobra.

don't get a scubi - your DSM is just as good if not better. as far as performance goes. So there'd be no point in swapping. other then for looks.

Is that a grammar school, or a typing school? J/K man. :D Keep your DSM, then take the $40k and put it in an IRA. Over 45 years with an average of 8% interest, that $40,000 would be worth $1,276,817.98. Plus it would show your parents how smart you are. ;) Or I guess you could just buy a car that would be worth half what you bought it for 5 years from now. Just my opinion. :stick:

http://www.kennebell.net/superchargers/for...obra03_2400.htm

Kenne Bell, the Twin Screw gurus, have done it again. Up to 617 RWHP vs. stock 366HP with stock cats, MAF meter, throttle body and injectors from ONLY a Kenne Bell Supercharger Upgrade kit and Cobra Cool Air Kit.

03 cobras are enticing :)

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR

or in Japan, the MR330

All the goodies, $32k. Run high 12's stock. AWD so when you come back to visit us.

Great Platform to start from. 4G63

And you can even put a baby seat in...

Iceman 07-12-2004 06:43 PM

O3 cobra. When you toss the kenne bell on there and push 20+ PSI they seem to burn up the 7 and 8 pistons. If i got one i would just pullie it and regular bolt ons.

03 COBRA!

Mr Raced 07-12-2004 06:53 PM

Actually Kiel is called the FQ330 and our MR is only comparable to the FQ300. Get the Evo and do a few grand in mods and you wont regret it, handling, speed, good looks atleast i think so and four doors. What more can you ask for. :bounce:

Don't RS Evo's have no A/C? That'll be a perfect car for Socal summers... Or you can get the MR Evo, and spend that extra 5 grand on mods. But consider 2 grand of that gone already cuz the thing will need a new clutch in 3 months. And I dunno about you, but I wouldn't wanna change out a clutch in my brand new car. I'd be paying the dealership to do it. That's just me. I think if I could get any car for under 40k, I'd prolly get a nice sedan for like 25k to cruise around in and go to clubs with your friends in. Like a Mazda 6 or Altima or something along those lines, and then keep the dsm as your toy cuz you only did spend 25k instead of 40k so they'd prolly let you keep the dsm. That's what I'm doing when I get home. Just gunna get a 4 door sedan to go to work and use pretty much all the time, and keep my talon as my toy and take it out every now and then... when it's workin right.

john 07-12-2004 10:36 PM

Cobra, and give me your DSM. You could leave the cobra stock, for now. You will be stuck at ~300 hp on the STi before replacing the engine.

I know nothing about IRA's but as far as intrest goes, good luck getting 8%. If you are happy wiht your car, keep it and save the $$$$$$.

Trust me, it's possible. There are good years, there are really good years, and there are really bad years, but over the long term 8% is very acheivable. But back on topic. I like the idea of getting a nice daily and keeping the DSM.

A//// Guy 07-12-2004 11:27 PM

Im with ethug. I like the save factor but Id by a nice used car.

Brand new Id either get an Evo, Mini Cooper S or SRT-4 and save the rest by putting it into some account that will grow.

ACRucrazy 07-12-2004 11:45 PM

Theres different packages for the EVO RS packages, like the basic no ac no radio, then there was one AC, no radio, then ac, radio, but still lighter, and still no wing.

I think one was called the Jungle pacakge, then was there an urban package?
I dont remember.

eh, ugly. Buy a used '03 cobra for a good price and spend the extra $10-15 on mods. You'll have a new, reliable, full street car, that is capable of 135mph traps pulling the front end way off the ground when you launch. Thats my idea of fun.

Also, I hope I dont hit a nerve here, but rear wheel drive is waaaay better for racing than all wheel drive. I raced this older style supra turbo at red rock a few years ago when my car was stock...he pulled his front end like a foot off the ground when he went into second gear! Fuckin cool.

520Talon 07-13-2004 02:15 AM

Anyone else think convertable? Dude your in college and you will want to pull bitches. Cal State Long Beach = nice all year + bitches love covertables.

I drove an 04 350Z Convert Touring with the 6 speed. It is fast and it takes rim extremely well. The sticker at 39-40Gs. There is no negotiation as they are limited production. This means better resale as well.

Try one out and tell me what you think. Huge looks factor.
