Hey everyone. Just thought I'd say a quick hello from my new home over here in Okinawa Japan. I still don't have internet, im using a friends computer. But anyway, so far it's been pretty badass here. Skylines are like DSM's here. There are tons of em, but the GTR ones aren't as common as the regular run of the mill ones. There are so many different models I can't keep em straight. Seen a butt load of Mistu GTO's and FTO's. Saw me a right hand drive cadillac and mustang which seemed odd to me. They have all these different cars here too that aren't over there. They all have goofy names and a lot of people drive lil baby suv's kinda like the scions. Those things are real common since they pay their tabs based on car size. I still don't have a car yet. I have to take a 5-day driver class before I'm allowed to. But not sure what I'm gunna get. Most likely not a skyline because it wouldn't be the best move for me financially. But if i do come across an GTR R32 for like 3 grand then ill definately jump on that. That price might sound low, but its about right around here. It's just not that many are for sale. The R33's are for sale left and right, but in like the 5-7 grand range. The shitty GTS25 ones that are the same years as the r32's are for sale everywhere, but they are kinda crappy. I'd like to get a silvia but again price is a factor plus trying to find one for sale at a decent price. So ill prolly end up with a celica or a 4-door sedan or sumthin. Anyway don'tmean to ramble, just wanted to say hey and that i made it here in 1 piece. I'm trying to learn the language a lil but i still can't understand a damn thing any of these people say. All i know is GOMENESIA (forgive me), KONICHIWA (good afternoon), KONBANWA (good evening), ICHIBAHN (number one), ARIGATO (thank you), and that's all I can think of at this second. Well take care.
Brandon Oh and I don't know any car parts spots yet so don't ask for parts. And I have some cool pics of the island from the plane and a badass skyline and stuff that ill put up once I get my computer here. |
Thats sweet! How long are you gonna be there for!?
Chris |
axe some of the natives this: engoka wakatimas-ka
that bascially means "you understand english?" (pronounce the G like you would in "guess") get a hackiroku, haha, then drifto it like that cartoon |
Good to hear from ya, how long was your flight? And Mike says you owe him money from the Chicago trip...
|
Get a 87-92 GVR4, you already know how to work on it. :bounce:
|
Good to hear from you. Glad you had a safe trip over there and are enjoying it right now! :D
Post up pics when you can of the cars/sights!! |
So can you get me some parts???
Just kidding! lol Sounds like a fun time over there. What exactly do you do (army-wise) in Japan? |
Glad to hear from you again Brandon. Hope your having a blast. And Pete, hes in the Marine Corp, REMEMBER, not the army. I hate it when people do that...
Edit--How the fuck do I spell ''Pete'' wrong???? |
Yea I knew he is in the marines, but I think he would get what I mean. Marine-like sounds like hes underwater... hah
|
Austin, ya I know, I totally forgot to give Mike that check before I left. If he has paypal I can just send it to him that way. Otherwise I guess I could mail him a check but who knows how long that'll take. I have a work email he can get ahold me at if you could give it to him. Its Halonenbt@futenma.usmc.mil Anyway, ya I really don't plan on getting a car and working on it. Just getting something that'll get me around for the 10 months I'll be here. I don't think I'll be getting a gvr4. But I've seen a few of them. They have some that look like our 2000 model galants in the states. They got all sorts of crazy shit here. I ate some authentic Japanese last night and oh man that stuff came flyin out quicker than it went in. And if you really wanna know what I do in the Marines, I did a thread on it awhile ago, posted pics of my deployment and everything. But basically I'm a Radar Technician and I work on Air Traffic Control Radars. And I just got stationed over here in Japan. It's not like a deployment or anything like when people go to Iraq or whatever. This is just a base in an allies country and we can go out just like in the US. People who get stationed here for 3 years actually bring their families with and get apartments out in town and live there. So it's pretty cool. The water is so clear, you can see the coral and fish from above water. Anyway I'll see u guys later.
|
Glad to hear, Brandon! Have you interacted with any of the locals? I'm always wanting to hear what foreigners have to say to an American on an intellectual level.
If you like seafood, please have some sushi for me. If you're afraid of eating raw fish, start out easy if they have anything like a California roll that won't make you choke. |
yes we've met locals. They are very polite people. They do a little bow thing after everything. There is basically no crime here because it's not part of their culture. They are very nice people. But of course there are groups that hate Americans. I guess I'd be a lil pissed too if a country nuked us twice and killed some of my old relatives and then opened up bases in my country and lived here. So I really don't blame them, even though I personally didn't hurt them. But for the most part they are very nice and friendly. We have 3 japanese guys who work with us. They are pretty cool. They like strip clubs and stuff too just like us!!!
|
Wow, sounds pretty cool!! Like I said before, if you get a chance take pics of the area/local area.
Was the food not good? Do some of the locals speak english, or were you trying out what you know in japanese? |
I have a little sheet that has some Japanese phrases that I'm trying to learn. For the most part they really don't speak much english. I mean you can talk to them in broken english and they will understand what you're trying to say. But you really can't have an intelligent conversation. When you buy food they sit there and tell you in Japanese, what your total is but I don't gotta damn clue what they're saying. So I usually just give em what im guessin it costs according to the menuand take whatever change they give me. But it is still a really cool experience. The girls are damn fine that's for sure. They all look so young. 22 year olds look like 15 year olds. I really can't tell their ages at all. But also when they hit 40, something happens and I don't know what. But they get real ugly overnight. Anyway take it easy everyone.
|
oh shizzle looks like someone caught yellow fever ;)
i was told the girls over there go ape shit in the clubs for american dudes in general, so you'd better get out there and do a little myth-proving! |

f-15 at Kadina Airforce Base in Okinawa Japan. I'm stationed on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, but Kadina is the biggest airbase here so that's where we flew into then they drove me to Futenma. |

Okinawa from the air. You can see how clear the water is, then it gets dark where all the corral is.

me partying it up yesterday at a "mess night". Everyone gets dressed up and eat and have free drinks afterwards. I was pretty tore up. By the time I got to my room, my pants were already around my ankles because it was so hot outside that I just started taking the shit off.

random pic of some Yen. The exchange rate is like 120yen/1dollar. But everywhere pretty much rounds it to 100 yen equalling 1 dollar. So 1 yen is worth about a penny.

Random silvia. You can tell it's an American that owns it because of the Y on the license plate (Y=Yankee)

badass r33 skyline...
and that's all i got for now. Skylines are still cool, but there's so many of em here that they really are no big deal anymore. About as common as a civic in the US. Mainly you see the base model naturally aspirated ones. But if you head out in the city, you'll most likely see at least one turbo one. |
hey next time you see a dark headed asian girl say this without getting a good ass whooping (koj saib Hlub kuv)-this is in hmong tho, lol hehe, means I want some luv'n.
hehe in engilsh words use (koj = cool saib = sa hlub = lube kuv = call (cool sa lube call) lol :goodluck: |
Those pics are so cool. I would love to see new places.
|
Very nice, Brandon. We're always up for more pictures of the airbase.

next time i go out in town ill take some pics and throw em up here. Everthing is so crammed. Oh and there are young asian girls on the side of the road in school girl outfits waiting to go to school all the time. They look so good, yet sooo young. Also their signs are sweet. They don't have lots of billboards, just like led signs that are just awesome looking. This place is pretty damn tyte so far. I gotta go to work, it's 7am here right now. And about saying that Luvin quote, i can hardly read that, but to memorise it? impossible! I'll just keep reading off my lil translation sheet I have here.
|
Oh and I take my drivers course next week. Then I get to go buy me my first right hand drive vehicle! So exciting!!!
edit... ok nevermind, my lazy fuckin Staff Sergeant decided to let my driving class paperwork sit on his desk all week and never turn it in so now I have to wait till the first week of August to take the class. fuckin deush |
hey brandon
BAHHH the water looks soooooooo nice. your very lucky to be out there. hope everythings going all good. laters. |
Just telling Reid yesterday that it would be awsome to go to Japan. We decided Japan, Australia, and Germany are among the best automobile countries.
|
definately japan. Fuckin cool cars here. I really like em at least. Everything has a fuckin turbo on it. All sorts of minivans, suv's, lil tiny festiva sized cars. And also there are a lot of cars wit h just bodykits and stuff on em. BUT everyone's done a clean job. You see ZERO cars riding around with unpainted body kits. Everyone who has done anything to their cars have done it clean.
|
Fuck the cars, where's the pics of the chicks. lol
