Sleeper vette
4 Attachment(s)
Well I sold my black 99 c5 and picked up this beast. It's also a 99 but only has 60k miles on it and has a built 408 ls motor. I don't have the build sheet but did get it dynod when I picked it up. Made 530 whp and 500 trq. The guy that owned it was in his 70s and had hitech build the car back in 04. He passed away and his kid wanted the car gone. I will update this with build sheet when I get it.
I want to keep it stock old man looking on the outside. Plans? Tint Factory wheels kinda want the 5 spoke chrome wheels Upgrade shocks Lowering bolts Better seats Goals? Would love to make a 10 second pass at the end of the year. If not I will try real hard to do it next year. |
Re: Sleeper vette
Looks clean, congrats! Nice to let someone else pay the mod bill sometimes!
|
Re: Sleeper vette
sounds like you got it for a good price. But that thing is sleeper for sure.

Re: Sleeper vette
Yes it's a total sleeper. Would like to keep it that way.
|
Re: Sleeper vette
Looks clean! Congrats!!

Re: Sleeper vette
530 is good power for a 408, must have good heads and cam combo. Any exhaust mods? Targa ftw, looks nice! Can c5 lower a good inch or so on stock bolts like c6? Mine went pretty low when I had it.
For suspension are you thinking coil overs, or drm shocks, or cost effective like c6 z51 take offs? |
Re: Sleeper vette
It made really good power for what I thought. Right now it has Chevy 317 heads that they ported. Exhaust it has long tube heads but I don't know what size they are. No cats and it has a Borla cat back exhaust. Sounds pretty good and pretty quiet when cruising down the road. Wish I love since my old car was to loud cruising down the freeway. I am sure with better heads it could make more and some e85.
Idk what the stock bolts can do. I haven't looked into it yet same with the shocks. Whatever is the best bang for the buck is what I will go with. |
Re: Sleeper vette
Congrats! Looks really nice. That parking lot and power lines look eerily familiar!
|
Re: Sleeper vette
Please replace those God awful ricer cannons while you're at it
I like your plans on some nicer factory wheels. For suspension, were you thinking upgrading to something aftermarket or doing a C6 shock/bar swap? |
Re: Sleeper vette
I found some c6 z06 shocks locally. So thinkin of getting those and some aftermarket swaybars. Think that will work out very nice on the car. I might lower it a little bit on the stock bolts. I don't want the car to ride rough and scrap going into my driveway everytime I drive it.

These are the wheels I am looking at. I am not a chrome guy but I think the chrome wheels look better then anything else on this style red corvette. |
Re: Sleeper vette
Agreed on those chrome wheels looking much better, but would suggest going for a real OEM rather than a knock-off if possible (typically stronger while weighing less, plus looking more legit).
Definitely grab those C6 Z06 shocks, or just buy the brand new set from Steve Hill that he ordered but never installed on his C6 Z51. They go for a pretty fair price even brand new so it may be worth it to not bother with old/used/worn shocks. I fully support lowering on the stock bolts. No change in handling or comfort, but much better looks. Which swaybars are you looking at? That would likely be another cheap upgrade you can snag off a C6... |
Re: Sleeper vette
Those wheels are the style I want to get. Not buying those wheel's since they are knock offs. I found some Hotchkis sway bars locally. So either get those or some c6 take offs.
|
Re: Sleeper vette
OH! Got it, agreed on that style looking great a red C5.
I tried a set of Hotchkis bars on my C7 and tons of noise issues no matter how many times I reinstalled, retorqued, or regreased. I eventually ended up just taking them off and putting the stockers back on. Not saying all their bars will do there, but there is definitely something to be said for OEM simplicity. |
Re: Sleeper vette
I would definitely use all OEM stuff, so cheap these days.
|
Re: Sleeper vette
Never knew you got into vettes, Paul! Cool stuff! I want another one too :)
Hopefully one I keep forever HAHA |
Re: Sleeper vette
Nice, I saw this on fb when it was for sale. Must have sold fast!
|
Re: Sleeper vette
Well I found some c6 z06 wheels that I might pick up. They are painted silver. Wish they were chrome but I might plasti dip them black. Seen a couple pics with them black and they look good.

ZO6 wheels will stick out on yours, too wide. You could get narrower replicas like mine, should fit perfect. In fact I saw the same wheels as mine on a C5 at CnC last Saturday, looked good.
|
Re: Sleeper vette
I have done some research most people say it barely sticks out. I guses I will test fit them first. Lol.

Looking at ways to make the car different. Decided to try this out. I like it and looks pretty good. Don't worry it's plasti dip. Wanted to see how it looks before I actually get it painted.

Re: Sleeper vette
I like the way that looks. I think it's better also.

The 530 line is when it was first done. The funky line is the dyno pull he did when I bought the car. It had old gas in it and was pulling timing out and we couldn't get a good tach signal.

Got my new wheels on and lowered the car as far as it will go on stock bolts. Very happy with how the car looks now. Just needs tint now and the front signals blacked out
|
Re: Sleeper vette
Great looking wheels, simple and clean. Perfect ride height too. Can you get stock looking front markers just without the orange?
|
Re: Sleeper vette
I think you can. But I am going with the blacked out marker lights.
