What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
Was talking about this with a friend and I had to be honest that I haven't driven enough cars to figure this out.
But I said, miata if 2 seats were doable or crx Maybe but I don't know the last time I was in one. Maybe a 92-95 civic hatchback. Then my brain was curious about an old 3 series bmw. Thoughts More requirements: 20/30 mpg, manual, can seat 4 if needed. $5k spending limit. |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
How cheap? 335 for low teens is probably my pick after driving a couple. E36 m3 for around 5k if you can find one, loved mine, great dd. Or lightly modded evo possibly.

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
G35/37. My buddy has a 335 and it has stranded him twice with less than 40k miles on it. It also wont start a lot of the time if the temp goes below -10. Obviously all covered under warranty but still annoying to have a car strand you.
If you want cheaper and more fun I used to own a couple old school 5.0s. They were pretty reliable and fun but also death traps when it got slick outside. The miata is also a good call and so are the civic hatches you mentioned. Remember in most cases you can only pick 2 of the following 3 parameters: cheap, fast, reliable. |

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
540i 6 speed, ls swap, get goin.
|
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
Yeah, I'm thinking a DSM, or I'll second the E36 M3, although you'd probably have to get the auto to get a decent one under $5k. I had that auto one and loved it, I'll eventually buy it back and LS swap it.

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
I'd opt for a Civic HB (92-93). Driving my brother's around, it's fun and gas is good and the gas tank is even smaller. Too bad the theft rate is really high in the metro area for these.
I think an auto 1gb would be fun to be a dd. |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
An auto is really boring to dd to me i dd my 2g auto gsx and yea got sick of it real fast

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
DSM, Omni GLH, StarQuest... Under $5k is a tough target since most "enthusiast" cars down there are going to be old, tons of miles, and beat up.
Have Neon SRT-4's gotten that cheap yet? What about the Neon ACR? I'm sure most those are hacked up by now though. |

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
A basic subaru would be a fun daily in the winter time and given the thought of not modding it, i wouldn't mind driving as a daily.

because of mods? I guess i assumed when it was a daily, it wouldnt be getting tons of mods. |

Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
Would be hard to find any cars listed that arent rust buckets with high miles, unless maybe you go south again. My M3 had some rust on it with only 90k miles, e36s in general rust out pretty fast.
You had a 330, why didnt you just keep that lol. |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
I don't know, lol.
I couldn't find places without my navigation, lol. lol, lol. |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
I was just bringing some car discussion to our car forum, thought it would be interesting since we have all driven different cars.
I like the old E30 suggestion that has come up a lot. Actually kracka's neon suggestion is something an amateur racer friend of mine drives, I'll ask him what he thinks. Does this mean audi's aren't cool anymore, lol. |

I've owned one VW and i will never buy another vw/audi again lol |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
haha yea good discussion for sure. I wouldnt say audis are a great drivers car, they are comfy, and great all weather cars, they dont rust out as fast as bmws or others. Because racecar, audi wont work for you, unless you up your price range and get a R8. lol
Although my B7 A4 S line was very fun modded up, handled really well with upgraded springs and shocks, as well as sways and they are getting pretty cheap now.. Sub 10k. K04 turbo upgrade and you get nearly 300hp and tqs. Why not just DD the dsm you have, not a good dd? |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
I needed to bump the price a bit and picked up an 07 Imprezzzzzzza. It's basic yet simple. Phone covers the lack of GPS, and it's AWD with lower miles for the year. It's clean, rust free, and I can pay it off in 8-10 months.
A good daily also relates to the route you drive. For me it's 7 miles of back roads each day. Never above 40 mph unless I hit the freeway on a holiday with no traffic. I'd rather put the miles on something like this and have a fun summer/weekend car to really enjoy (which is planned)... |

Nice shot there, I'd like an A7 of some sorts in the long distant future, they are beautiful. I do like having a racecar though. FUnny you say audi's aren't great drivers cars, but of course the one you had fit the bill. DD a DSM? Been there done that, and auto's are mega boring esp. for my little drive. Quote:

My friend said his old dodge spirit is perfect, turbo noises, decent power and gets over 30mpg mixed, his gf would get high 30s with hers. A shit ton of room in those old things and giant trunks too. As far any more person shots at me, I get bored super easy usually 9 months is the longest I usually hang onto cars. I've kept a handful longer than that, but right now I do have desire to try and drive some real drivers cars and then to just get into some old shit for the heck of it. Will it happen? probably not, too many other things that I have to spend money on that I WOULD rather spend money on, but having some knowledge of what out there is nice. |
Re: What do you think a fun cheap dd is?
