Is this for a dyno queen or drag setup?

That is what you want. They're good quality parts that multiple people are running at 800 or more horsepower. I as well as others have made threads asking about them and the response is always positive.

The only downside with bronze valve guides is you'll have to pay a bit to have them honed when they're installed. You won't be able to avoid this no matter the brand. Why not save money on the three and put what you save towards the machine work? My way to look at it.

If you're needing machine work or just want your block cleaned of flashing I'm your guy. I've got pictures somewhere of my buddies block I have a good 10 hours into just flashing and casting flaw removal. Just something to consider.

I know it sound like a silly question but most people don't realize how fast you can hit past the 30 pound boost with a DSM.

Are you looking at doing 800 at DB or Maps?

dsmDolney 01-06-2015 04:41 PM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Itll be at DB

Make sure you post date and time when you dyno! I would like to be there for this dyno session.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

800 at DB, that is big time.

This should be a pretty cool build when all is said and done.

Maybe i am wrong on this, isn't the exhaust housing on this turbo a bit small for 800 at DB? I know on my t4 6266 I ran a 1.0A/R but that was twinscroll, so probably not the same at all. Actually the more I think about it, single scroll that is a huge A/R I think.

Carry on :)

dsmDolney 01-06-2015 04:53 PM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

It is a pretty big housing for sure. Itll be nice when its done to look at what ive built. 800 is goal even if i come close to it itll make me happy.

If you like to save money go auto

Automagic FTW. Saving money with an auto is an understatement. lol

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

I think ill jist stay manual this time and see how it goes if its that bad ill go auto

People don't say Mitsubishi transmissions are made out of glass for no reason. Lol Good luck to you on that aspect.

I dont know a stage 3 tmz are rated over 1000 hp. But i guess ill think about it. Ill take pros and cons from the two

I broke 2x built Shep trannys and made like 500hp.

I'd suggest dogbox or auto, if you want to DRIVE you car versus have it on jackstands.

If you go for a dogbox and a triple disc (seems to be an amazing setup), you're looking at $15k..yeah, $15,000. That's quite a bit for just the transmission.

HUH

Magnus lists their PPG DSM Dog box gears for $6700. A nice triple disk is $2500.

Last I checked $15k was the shortly rounded up number. $6,700 for just gears? How about installation/rebuild & shipping? As I said, the number I had was rounded up but not far.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Still 10k for a tranny is really not what im looking to spend. You guys what would be the best route to go with an auto built wise. I was looking into converters and stuff already and stuff.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Auto is the way to go if u don't want to be fixing stuff all the time but I would rather sell my cars then have an auto. My 2 pennies Auto just takes something about driving away from the experience at least for me. To be the fastest is unrealistic so just build the car to what u enjoy and have fun with it. Things will just be breaking at big power levels and that is just part of the game.

I read good things about magnus launch control setups if u wanna try be less abusive to your driveline well launching. I have been pretty fortunate tell just this fall with stock rebuilt trans and a twin disc. Ruined a 2 spyder and shift fork. Really no big deal and wanted to build the trans properly and just had not gotten to It yet. Next year will tell how it holds up but then again I am not trying to set any records.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Thats just the thing i think a 800 hp car with a manual would just be fun as hell to take down the strip to me it seems. And same here i just want to have fun with it not trying to be top dog or set records like you said yourself. Alteast yet ha ha.

Look into getting your transmission faceplates, iirc it's about $2500-3500. It's amazing, auto is boring as shit and why in 4 years I've put on maybe 3k miles, my 5 spd car I averaged well over 15k miles a season.

Ill take that into perspective Aaron. Still think im going manual tho. If it breaks it breaks itll sit untill i come up with enough money to fix it. Sounds stupid but i guess its all on me whatever happens

Or see if liberty will faceplate DSM gear!!!!???. They do Honda stuff for each gear for $80(so 4), sliders for $250, and hubs $160.

Mark Leasure 01-07-2015 09:33 PM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

I broke two 5 speed transmissions. I ran multiple high 9 second passes on the original trans, then the car got faster and then the breakage started happening. Both stripped 4th gear. I recommend that you stick with a 5 speed for a while, then upgrade to a dogbox if you still like racing, your power and track times warrant it. I would upgrade a lot of other stuff before the transmission - rear axles, transfercase, driveshaft, and then a dogbox. And once your at the dogbox level you'll never look back!

Or go auto, either way.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

I think Liberty is a major player in the Doxbox gear set for the DSM so they might not look into faceplating for it. From first hand 10k plus shifting a well setup trans from all Evo3 stuff and a good multi plate clutch will shift at 10k at almost 1000whp for a while, any miss shifts and its onto grinding off points on hub/slider and braking springs like its going out of style.

dsmDolney 01-08-2015 06:13 AM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Very well said Mark. Thank you for the opponion. I dont think ill need to go with a dogbox with the power ill hit. But i agree with Mark i think id be more worried about snapping a tcase or axle first before blowing a tranny

tehehodi 01-08-2015 07:12 AM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Are you towing to the track or driving it to the track and also on the streets?

Mark probably tows his car as well. He's got all them evos to play with. Wear and tear is limited to just the track at this point in a more "controlled" setting.

Correct me if i'm wrong. I'm kind of just speaking out my arse.

dsmDolney 01-08-2015 08:16 AM

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

It will be towed and no street time. This is just the track car. I have my dd 2g for the street ha ha

Liberty DOES faceplates for DSM transmissions.

Re: 800 hp goal Dsm build

Does face plating help besides with high rpm shifting and making it worse to drive on the street?
