Project GTL!

Well as most of you know, I ran into a bit of bad luck with the Evo, and it found a new home! That left me needing a new car :). We looked at a bit of everything, but settled on a 335i xdrive. It was challenging finding one with a manual, but I found this guy in Boston. I flew out on Friday morning and drove it back.

It is a 2011 335i xdrive. It has just about every option, I'm not sure on what my future plans for it are, other than getting rid of some of the chrome and the "old man woodgrain".

Testing out the odd, but seemingly very sturdy and impressive cup holders :)

What's the curb weight on this thing? I have to say I whole-heartedly approve of this douche-mobile! Power is nice and linear, seats are comfy, it handles nice, and the list of features is a mile long. Really nice car!

Thanks! I like it a lot so far... aside from its inherent douchyness :)

It tips the scales at 3814.

Looks great, impressive list of features! What is a Combox controller?

And what does GTL stand for?

GTL = Gym Tan Laundry --- Guido motto :)

The combox allows the idrive to do bluetooth music streaming and sync text messages. Standard on all idrive after like 9/10 build dates.

Re: Project GTL!

The Combox sounds really cool. And I don't gym nor tan, so I guess I am just L haha!

Vinyl wrap the wood grain with brushed aluminum and I think it will sporten up that interior nicely.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking about!

I've seen some dark grey brushed aluminum that looked nice as well.

I am totally an old man now, because I like the wood grain :)

You could try that hydro-dip process too, but you'd have to completely remove them.

Exactly what I suggested this weekend, that process is perfect for this (and how most factory "wood" grain is done).

Bringing it on the cruise?? I had a blast with mine last cruise! I was amazed at the cornering ability and how effortless it was, but still involving. Not like hustling a dsm/evo around!

Yeah! I need to look into this and how much it would cost. It needs to be removed for vinyl as well.

Yup! It's this or the TDI.. and the cruise isn't about how good of mpg we can get! It just has some crappy allseasons on it at the moment... so it wont be as good as it can be!

He probably doesn't want to go with pink like you, he is classier than that.

Played around with the Navi some more yesterday. I really like the built in traffic functions! I know I can do it on my smart phone, but it is handy to have it right there ready for me!

JET 03-11-2014 02:11 PM

Re: Project GTL!

The Nav isn't too bad in it, but honestly I never use it. I haven't gotten the voice to work well and typing all that shit in is a pain. Just talk in my phone and away I go. The cubby in front of the shifter is the perfect size too, you can prop your phone up in there and see it well.

A//// Guy 03-11-2014 02:20 PM

Re: Project GTL!

Yea that is pretty neat! But id probably never use it either with how much easier a phone is to look things up, plus google maps cant be beat haha.

Kracka 03-11-2014 02:26 PM

Re: Project GTL!

Since having a car with in-dash navi that is now a must for me, I like it a lot better than using my phone.

rose0529 03-11-2014 02:29 PM

Re: Project GTL!

Yeah i set it up for the trip home so my phone could be used for other stuff. Yeah I will probably not use it for much other than looking at a map quick. Address typing in is a little slow but not to bad. I just like the quick hit nav button and traffic pops up!

Kracka 03-11-2014 02:31 PM

Re: Project GTL!

The traffic is awesome! The Evo X didn't get that until 2011 :(

This.
That Kenwood deck I sold had live traffic updates that shit was priceless in the winter.

Got a couple little things done. I sadly put a front plate on it, don't feel like getting hassled for it. I found one that mounts into the tow hook mount, so at least I didn't have to drill any holes!

Also plasti dipped the front grill. IMO looks much better than the chrome.

That plate holder is awesome! Is it custom just for BMWs or is it universal?
