Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners!
Looks like those of us still on the stock plastic CMC may be getting a new, stronger, unit for free :)

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Nice, feel bad for guys who spent a pretty penny on an upgraded one, but you cant always wait for Mitsu lol

Yeah, one day it just split in 2 right at the seam, that was @ 12000 miles on the twin clutch, honestly though it probably would have let go on a the stock clutch as well. My car sees a ton of heat from track miles so the plastic does get brittle.

:(
4 CMC setups later...and now this! Argh. Few thousand down the drain, nbd. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Damn! Which have you all tried? All three versions of the shitty billet SSP before switching to the AMS/Magnus/MAP w/IX CMC design?

After that they gave me a free rev 1. I put that on with my first ACT 6 puck (still stock motor). then the motor blew up, so I switched out to the rev2 despite having no issues with rev1 from what I heard. Then shortly after that failed and I replaced it with another rev2. Then that failed again so I bought Mlomkers magnus kit and DB that in, however their vendor gave them an OEM replacement evo 8/9 one not a legit one so that failed too. Then I took upon myself to install a new 8/9 one on my magus (worst install ever lol) and since then it has been good. So the following: 1. stock 2. rev1 ssp 3. rev2 ssp 4. rev2 ssp 5. magnus 6. another magnus Man, i went through more than i remembered after I started going through it chronologically haha. Moral of the story, stay with the stock one I guess, that never gave me issues. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
What a headache!

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
You have no idea.
That doesn't include the tow bills either for getting stranded several times. |

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Yeah, I made that same mistake on my IX regarding something else.

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Got my recall notice in the mail last Friday. I'm honestly not too concerned about it though, and since I just flushed my brake/clutch fluid 2 months ago I might hold off and just wait.

Well that sucks, I can't wait to see people break these ones too after they get their recall done. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
I'm honestly thinking they'll be fine. You rarely hear of anything but the 2008's breaking, and the 2014 version is the strongest one they've made yet. If properly engineered, plastic can be just as strong as metal while being lighter in weight and costing less to manufacture. I know people bitch about the plastic valve covers, but I think there are a few valid reasons for it such as heat retention and lower weight at the high point of the engine; the downsides are of course very apparent when you run a non-shielded tubular exhaust manifold though.

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Plastic doesn't bother me honestly, I am all for it as long as it works.
I just question that this is fixed properly but hopefully it is now. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Hope so! I suppose we'll find out if I ever upgrade my clutch :)

Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Great news all the way around :)
We have a several of the new CMC's in stock. So people may call service (651-483-9106) and start scheduling appointments for replacement at any time! Please make sure that when you call you do two things: make sure that we hold the part for you (as we only have so many at the moment), and check on availability of service loaners. We only have so many and can't always pay for enterprise cars for you. Time estimate is 5-6 hours. Also good news for those of you who have already replaced yours: You may be eligible for reimbursement!!! Details for that will be in the letter that you should be receiving some time this month. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Anyone heard of someone getting reimbursed? I talked to mitsubishi and they told me that I have to have my cmc replaced, even though it's a 9 cmc. They would then review it and could possibly partially reimburse me. Honestly I don't want it replaced with the plastic one, also the closest mitsu dealer to me is at least an hour and a half away. Not really a big deal to get any money out of it, but damnit haha.
|
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
I don't know about the reimbursement part yet. Supposedly the details are in the letter you are going to receive. I have not gotten mine yet.
I'm in the same boat. I have a IX CMC in my X too. |
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
I would say if you already have a IX CMC then just leave well enough alone.
|
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Yea I will most likely not pursue anything. But I figured if they are giving out money I'll take some haha.
|
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
Ugh I have a spare OEM CMC sitting on the shelf waiting for replacement...bought it last year so I'd have one ready to rock. Think Mitsu would take it back for credit or something?
|
Re: Good news for Evo X GSR owners - CMC RECALL!
I'd say they would if you still have your invoice or receipt.
