Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

Having a fuel pressure problem where it goes crazy and bounces between 38 and close to 60 psi. Just pulled the AFPR it's an Aeromotive A1000 and it still looks new inside. Checked the return line and nothing blocked it as far as I could see.
Here's the video of what it's doing.
Thanks for all the help so far!

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

Another idea, maybe take off the feed line from the rail and put into a bucket, see if you are getting weird pulses of fuel instead of a constant flow. If you have the time, check another pump.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

ok. I'll try that now. Thats a good idea.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

really its not the diaphram?

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

fuel pump is not pulsing

Diaphragm?

I can take pics but it looks perfect

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

was not wet either on top of it when I took it apart

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

I can blow through my return line no problem and it bubbles the tank. so it's not that

mark4g63t 08-28-2013 02:32 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

must be gauge or something but it does fluctuate the fuel pressure
going to hook the fpr up but not the return line and put that in the bucket to see what happens

mark4g63t 08-28-2013 02:40 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

doesn't pulse or fluctuate

polishmafia 08-28-2013 02:46 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

Try to use an actual mechanical fuel pressure gauge. The one you are using might not be accurate.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

it works fine otherwise

mark4g63t 08-28-2013 02:53 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

going to hook it back up and try it again...

WORK FINE NOW!! WTF?!?

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

lol. More like cursed garage. Well started and idled fine. I ended up gaining a few in of vac. back when I put the wastegate on that was lost from my over ported flapper and or bigger size hose to gauge. One I had was tiny. Now has a coolant leak from the lower hose. must have a rip in it or something. Will replace it in the morning if oreillys has one or if I can steal the one from Blakes aluminum rad.

Your wastegate has no effect to your engine vacuum.

Almost forgot to mention I have a weird rusty color in my coolant. Could It be copper spray from my headgasket?

Not yet I haven't. lol

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

When was the last time the coolant was flushed? You should also do a block test. Easy way to tell if you have exhaust gas in the coolant.

mark4g63t 08-29-2013 12:13 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

I just ran straight hose water through it not to long ago. I'll post another pic of the pan I put the coolant into. There is settlement on the bottom.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

I doubt a little copper spray would be visually noticable in the 3+ gallons of coolant in your system

polishmafia 08-29-2013 12:17 PM

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

The rust color may come from some breakdown inside of the radiator. I would just monitor the coolant color as you continue to drive it.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

cool. I'll keep flushing it out.

Re: Fuel Pressure Fluctuates

It's always confidence inspiring when you take something apart that isn't working, find nothing wrong, then put it back together and it magically starts working fine.

Yea makes you feel awesome for no reason lol. Well drove the car to Forest Lake a couple times. Going to keep flushing the coolant system out. Feels good at the moment.
